I went to nursery, started primary school at five years, then left at seven years. My parents took me out for various reasons; among them the fact that it was a real trial going in each year and asking for me and my older brother to be taken out of the Christmas celebrations. The headmaster didn't like us very much. He had a big stuffed Teletubbie in his office. Lala, the yellow one. :P

I liked school, and the things I missed most were the school lunches and the sport's day. I don't miss the later so much now. I was slightly annoyed at leaving before I got into the Junior's, which is the last part of primary school. The Juniors got to play in a bigger playground and learn music and netball, so I was a bit sorry to miss all that.

My younger brothers have never been to school; it's only me and my older brother who have.

    What about y'all?
  2. Good thread, Twitters!

When my oldest brother (now 18 ) was old enough for first grade, my mother brought him to a local school and talked with the woman who would be his teacher. She told my mother "over the year we will learn the whole alphebet, devoting a week to each letter"

My mom said "Well here's a book he wrote." And took one of the books that my brother wrote out of her bag and handed it to the teacher.

The teacher then said "Well it's fine by me if he sits in the back of the room and reads his book as long as he doesn't bother anyone."

My mother was disgusted and said "you know, he can sit in the kitchen at home and read a book and bother me as much as he wants."

And vuala! Ever since then, my oldest brother, my second oldest brother, me and my little brother have all been homeschooled!

  3. There isn't any story... neither me or Enok have ever been to a school, at least in the sense of having a scholarship and going. When I would've been in school otherwise, it just sort of happened that way.
  4. Well, thats not very exciting Aet!! :D

All my siblings and myself have been homeschooled our whole lives, aside from a short and decidedly unpleasant month in preschool on my part.:D

Since then,we've all been homeschooled, though our mother HAS threatened to send us to school a few times, especially when we forget to do our math.
  5. Ha-ha.

My mom kept me out of school to keep me off Ritalin. She said, "It's not a disorder, he's just a busy little boy." :smt026

I would tend to disagree with her, i.e. I'm hyper beyond any description of the word, but if you've ever seen anyone on Ritalin, it's like the life has been sucked from their soul.:smt095 Ritalin = state-sponsored marijuana.

That said, I've been home schooled my whole life.
  6. I went to regular school until just before high school. Actually, I think I only managed one or two days at high school before I fled in terror and distress.

    I kid you not.

When I was about 11, I started being bullied a lot at school. My "friends" weren't really very nice people - well, they were at that age, you know, when girls start being interested in boys and clothes, while I was something of a late bloomer and was more into reading than fashion - and just sort of started picking on me. I'm still not really sure of the reason, but it involved quite a bit of public humiliation that I wont go into. Anyway, I started really hating going to school, until it got to the point where I would literally have panic attacks, tantrums and so forth to avoid going, and if I was forced to go I would actually walk out (we lived not far from the school, so it wasnt all that big a deal lol).

So I eventually ended up changing to Correspondence. Technically I suppose it's not home-schooling as such, since I was still on the same curriculum and my parents didnt have to buy the books and all...but I kind of look at it that way because the booklets I got were sort of useless and I ended up teaching myself most of the time.

I'm now at university, and still doing my work extramurally. I love it :D
  7. I've always been homeschooled, as have my bros, except for bro #1 who went for exactly one month and then dropped out and started working.

My mom had a difficult time in school (She's cross-eyed, as am i, and she didn't want me to get teased about my eye. we have since trained my lazy eye to follow my other one around), so she kept us out of the school system for that reason alone, pretty much.
  8. Thats sad..... I find it kind of revolting that someone would have to go to those extremes to avoid being teased. Ugh........
  9. Well, also, we've never really approved of the schooling system.. NO offense, of course, to those that are public schooled/ going to be public schooled. XD
  10. I went to public every time we moved hten went back to homeschool so that I knew people, I like Homeschooling better cause i dont' have to rush stuff as much.
  11. yeah, its FAR from perfect....
  12. I went to a small private school until 8th grade. Then i went to a HUGE high school for 3 months and hated it, so now I'm doing online. I like it much better.

The reason? Wasn't being challenged enough, didn't have any friends, and I'm a fast learner. I can learn at my own pace now!

  13. I hace friends who do something like that. I bet its interesting........ I don't know if I'd like doing something like that or not, but then again I've never tried. Do you have to be on the internet at a certain time? or is it just an online program? <<Forgive me if those are stupid questions, I just don't have any idea how that kind of thing works>>
  14. No, I can do school whenever I want basically. The rule is that I have to do school at least 20 hours a week...so about five hours a day (Mon-Fri). I can do school on the weekends, too. My hours are really flexible.

I have about two teachers that I know and can talk to any time basically, and my school actually has a building (but it's more like where my teachers go everyday and the 'principal', there really isn't one do stuff) where I have to go take my midterms and finals. Other than that, I just home all day doing 'intense' studies!!

And I can only take two courses at a time. :D
  15. Ok, I started school life in a little preschool center place. Apparently, I failed coloring (I wanted to draw my own stuff XD)...so there's strike one. The beginnings of elementary school I don't recall much out-of-the-ordinary. Then there was the first out-of-state move, and we homeschooled the first half of 2nd grade before going to the local public school. >.< Oh- my- God!! That to me is like the worst half-year of school in my life (the public school half-year)! *shuts up and manages to stop fuming enough a couple minutes later to talk again* XD Well, 3rd-6th were spent in a private school, which was pretty good except for a few bullying/teasing issues I quickly learned to survive. Then middle school--ugh, middle school... Ok, some/most of the teachers that had been there for years before I got to 6th grade, just left that same year. >.< So we got stuck with the new headmaster who--ugh! I can't describe him!! I hated that man with every fiber of my being, my mind, my soul--aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!! *feels much better now she's been able to rant ^_^*

So, yeah... three years and two moves later, I'm happy as can be. The sun's shining on a Tuesday afternoon, it's 60 degrees outside in the middle of winter, and I've done all my school work (ok, almost all... ^^; ). So, yeah--homeschoolers ftw!! :D
