you hugged them, but not me
//
"it's my last year, why now?"
i hugged them, teardrops staining their clothes
//
you cried
it wasn't fair
how your last year with us
had to go
//
it was irrational,
my tears were,
but i had only wanted it to be a good year
but it had been rigged from the start
and we had lost
//
but you hugged them
and not me, so i stood
on the outskirts,
peering in
like a stranger through a one-sided glass
i could see you, but you could not see me
//
a win streak lost to a
last minute switching of judges
(unfair, it was; against the rules, it was;
but who were we to argue with the makers?)
//
maybe it was my fault,
maybe i jinxed,
i always was a plague, a curse
to our group
//
i turn to leave,
eyes catching hers;
she looks hesitant,
out of place,
not sure what to do,
hands half spread at her side,
as if for a hug
she'll never get
//
upon meeting his gaze,
i smile sadly,
heart aching for him
i always told myself not to get attached,
he'll be gone next year
and we weren't close in the first place
//
(maybe they were
closer than they thought)
//
she smiles at me,
sad and bone-weary tired,
it had been a long night
for the both of us,
only to end in disappointment.
i smile back, sad and bone-weary,
she crooks a finger in a wave, before
turning away
and beginning to walk,
in an aimless direction
//
(and if he waved back after a few seconds,
mouthing a goodbye,
after she was long gone,
well, nobody would know,
except for the guy standing in the corner,
shirt stained with salt,
watching with tired eyes) -
Oh my gosh, Pol!! The feels. The emotion. This is written so beautifully and tragically and aghhh. Good jobbb!!
-
Aww, thank you! I'm glad you liked it. I've realized it's coming off a bit on the romantic side but it's not intended too ;-;
-
I think the way you wrote it leaves it mostly up to reader interpretation, which I think is a good thing. It allows the reader to make their own conclusions, getting more personal with your work.

there is a tiny bird,
as green as fresh limes
and just as sweet
(sweet, more like sou-)
shhh child
go back to practicing
and save your streak
(but they need to be wa-)
against what?
the helpful bird
sweet and kind
coming to save them all
and unite them
under a common banner
called streaks
(ha, "sweet" and "kind", what bulls-)
hey, that's not true
no swearing, not here
not now
go back to practicing
while i do the hard work
(run, his name is-)
that's enough from you,
lay down, stay down
and don't get back up again
but as i was saying,
there is a green bird
the color of freshly picked limes
and two times as sweet
he's come to save the world
from the evil, evil golden goose
and from those
who protect it
(Run. Don't let him catch you.) -
CW: death, loose gore.
Spoiler
when i die
whether that be tomorrow
or two years from now
i do not wish to be cremated
for i do not want to be subjected
to the whims of the winds
blowing me about willy-nilly
when i die,
i wish for my chest cavity to be cracked open
exposed to the soft blue sky
i wish for my flesh to be painstakingly scraped away
organs pulled out and set aside in rows
of glass jars with liquid
when i die,
i wish to be filled with soil
and worms and all the wriggly,
nasty things of the ground
to be placed gently into dirt
arms out for one last embrace
of Mother Nature
when i die,
i want my bones to cradle
a young sequoia plant
to let the roots wrap around
glistening pearl and ivory pillars
to feed off my still heart
and the soft marrow of my soul
i do not want to be cremated
i want to decompose
until my only remains
are memories
and tattered bones -
OML, these are both so good you’re wonderful at articulating words and describing things!! Well done!
-
I love how sad yet heart warming the ‘When I die’ one is it’s my favourite!

Aww, thank you!
soft grass crushes beneath metal clad boots,
springing back slowly as they move on.
dirt crumbles underneath armor,
leaving footprints in dampened dust.
the dull screech of metal on stone echoes in air,
side of the mountain gorged out with hasty scratches.
the gaping mouth beckons with shadowy fingers,
sapphire, crimson, and gold glinting in its dark depths.
a home is constructed, plank by plank, wall by wall,
until a castle is built right into the maw of the serpent.
swords clash with a sickening shriek of metal on metal,
axe swooping down to behead an enemy in baby yellow. -
would you still love me
if i were a worm,
slimey to the touch,
helpless as the rain
pushes me onto
cold, hard concrete
would you still love me
if i were a bird,
screeching my heart out
in the dead of night
and in the clouds of dawn
would you still love me
if i were an ice cube,
too cold to touch
and too slippery to hold
would you still love me
if i were a cow,
content to nothing but eat
all day long, not a care in the world
except for when more food comes
and if your love still stands
would you love me
if i couldn't breathe,
if i couldn't move,
or speak, or eat
would you still love me
if all i could do was stare
and if i couldn't help but compare
your beauty to mine
would you still love me
if instead of letters
i gave you someone to take care of,
to rub away tired eyes,
soothe aching hearts,
and make sure bones
don't creak and crack
with every off-centered step
would you still love me?
i think, maybe, you would
but i also think
that
in the end
it wouldn't be enough
to keep me afloat
even if i were a worm,
or a bird, or a cow
i don't think
you would ever love me
the way i need you to -
WOAHHHH YOU OK POL?? These are amazing and in the kindest way possible first-you aren’t writing these based on current emotions right? Now, about the poems…they’re absolutely amazing as usual! I love the first one as its really descriptive and describes a battle scene in such great detail! The second one is my personal favourite-it’s so good and it’s not cheesy and annoying as how girls ask their boyfriends ‘would you love me if I was a worm’ and get mad if they say anything, it was beautiful and describing a person’s guilt and anxiety that they don’t deserve to be loved or they cannot be loved the way they want to be. Overall, AMAZING! Stay happy everyone!

Hahah yesss! The one about Duo is absolutely beautiful. In all seriousness though, I think he caught me anyway. It was good knowing ya.
-
The "would you still love me" one is AWESOME. I can really feel the words

Thank you! I was trying to find this comment for forever, then realized that there was a whole separate page haha
