  1. It begins...
  2. Daily Challenge 1: Rhyme

    from afar
    i saw you drowning
    like dying stars
    and fall leaves browning

    your head went underwater
oh the tides know how to slaughter
    the fathers of their daughters
    dying slowly is no honor

    far away
    i saw you sinking
    words can't say
    what i was thinking

    your head was underwater
i learned tides know how to slaughter
    taking fathers from their daughters
like the pen strike of an author

    yesterday
    i saw you breathing
    there was no way
    to forsee your leaving
    there could be no pleading
    there is no deceiving
    the waves
  3. so i asked him: what do you think happens behind closed doors? “doors?” he said, like the word was a new thing. “doors,” i said, though i knew he needed more. i never could be sure of what he caught onto on his own. perhaps i should’ve asked him nicely, what it’s like to be alone. but still, he didn’t get it. that i wanted to peek, though unsure. because i thought that just a glimpse would cure

    the curiosity

but when i asked him once again: what do you think happens, behind closed doors? he closed them shut again.

“nothing” he said, hands clasped like a lock
“nothing, i imagine” and nothing more
  4. I really like both of these sound! (the pairing of drowning & dying stars!!! <33333 !!!! ) And the second is just unexpected and is like this interesting little snapshot that says a lot in just a few words.
  5. I love the imagery in the second one, particularly this line:

"nothing" he said, hands clasped like a lock
  6. Spoiler
    thank u guys ;-;

Daily Challenge: New Muse (I was in the bathroom) + 5 Types of Punctuation

    slam! down the bathroom door
with the force of a thousand men.
bam! now, it’s on the floor,
and your strength is unhinged again.

    brother, don't you know
that this room is not yours?
that these walls were not built as a pen?
a pillar of safety, a box of privacy,
but you forced yourself in, even when -
there's a sign on the door, with each language shown for,
    that says: out of order,
    please come back at ten
  7. Daily Challenge: 15 Min Daylight Savings Poem (decreasing by one syllable per line)

hurry up and head out, gotta save some time
i hear you're running out into the mine
dark creatures dwell there and they're crawling
    every minute they are calling
better check your watch real soon
pick up your rocks 'fore noon
    'cause that's when they wake
    after daybreak
    ready to take
    your soul!
    :)
  8. Daily Challenge: Double Meaning

he waited for her flowers, and it took some time
he was standing at the end of a very long line
then he waited for their dinner, but he didn't while
even though he was still waiting in a snake of a line
but when they made it to the dance
she saw his patience at its best
when he went to get her punch
it was put to the test
as he weaved through the crowd, he saw the table was fine
when he got there, there was no punch line
  9. Daily Challenge: Remembering a Place/Physicality and 5 Senses

on a weekend full of college chatter - student to student
    and student to teacher
we were gifted a small window of hours
    to spend to ourselves
and the memory of the people, and conversations fades
    already

on the last evening before we went home
    i snuck out without announcement
goosebumps on my skin, a towel over my shoulders
desperate for the clear mountain air to fill my lungs
desperate for the space the sky had to offer

i walked up the stone steps in my paper-thin sandals
relieved when i saw that no one else was there
at the pool under the stars

    a sigh, and elation
running with flip-flops smacking on the pavement
'til I slid into the gate and took in a deep breath

    it was an illusion
the water running over the edge,
like it dropped down the side of the mountain
feeding you to the lake below
you could hear the murmur of water trickling - barely
because no one was there to move it
and i didn't want to disturb it too much
    when i went in

slow, letting my hair get wet from the nape of my neck
before bobbing under like a duck
little drops of water, clinging to my eyelashes
dripping down my forehead for a moment
    before my vision cleared

    i considered:
maybe this was how wealthy people felt
who had private pools in private homes on private hills
    set under the stars
and oh, there were so many stars
    so many to me, anyway
away from the blanket of smog that stretched to the city limits
away from the lights that lined every street and every store

    just me
wrapped in a blanket of saltwater, with enough air in my lungs
    to keep me buoyant
as i stared up at the star-speckled sky above
and the muted hum of the forest mixed with water in my ears
spinning, swirling, making its own song
lulling me to close my eyes
    and just breathe

oh, to savor that moment again
    for just one more second
before the others came and stole away
the silence of a night alone
  10. Daily Challenge: Narrative Memory of a Milestone

“congratulations,” you told me. “you just drove a car for the first time.”

    and i sighed.

victory is a fickle thing, but on paper seems so simple. written down it seems plain and clear: you did it, and it’s over. but you know, and i do too, that success is a progressive thing

you can never finish, if you don’t think you’ll make it there... or maybe you can. but not for every thing. not for every day. not for every dream. some things you have to fight for, and believe in. and not give up in the middle of the race

running, with an end point in sight or not, but running to make it there.

and maybe you didn’t notice my hands shivering over the wheel. maybe my voice quivering was only obvious to me, and my lack of confidence was endearing, not embarrassing. maybe you can see more than i:

how far i’ve come, and found my own drive

Y'know, sometimes a family is a mutant superhuman clown with cartoony powers, a hyperactive shapeshifter created in a lab, the ghost of an artificially created being who only exists for exposition, a cat who is an eldritch god for some reason, and an emo guy who doesn't canonically exist
