    Astrology Club Update · Jul 30, 2021
Hi astrology appreciators! I kind of wanted to revive this club a little by asking if anyone has questions about astrology that they want answered?

I planned to breakdown the areas of astrology a while ago in a forum topic I'd made, and I'd love to be able to have time to do that someday, but for now I figured it might be nice to do some bite sized things with astrology if anyone's down for that c:
(i'm also back on yws in a very lowkey way, and it would be super nice to have an excuse to interact with u all again.. lowkey, lowkey)

I def wouldn't classify myself as a professional astrologer, but I've done quite a bit of research on it overtime and grew up learning about astrology, so it's a fun subject I like talking about and sharing with others who are interested if i can. I'll try to answer any question I can, but there also might be others in this club who can answer questions who are welcome to!! So yeah, astrology things, fam ~

Hmm . . . What about the role of the planets (the ones listed in star charts I think? like Neptune, Saturn, etc.)? Might be a very large vague question haha but that's all I got at the moment ^^'

Haha hey Lim!! c: That's a great question you got yoself there, and definitely not too vague~! And you're right that the planets are found in birth charts (as one of the main parts of astrology).

Just to give an overview of birth charts for anyone in this club ~ everyone has a birth chart (there are lots of free sites online that calculate your birth chart, like this one), and this chart is essentially a 'snapshot' of the sky at the exact moment and place you were born. The western astrological idea behind a birth chart is that the positions of the planets at this time and place act as a 'map' or reflection of the person who was born. I wouldn't say that the planets 'influence' a person, because that implies physics being involved. I prefer to see the physical planets at this time as more of a celestial clock face that is 'telling' you about the person, but isn't the cause of their qualities, per se, which is a view that many astrologers hold ~ (as for what is actually the cause remains a mystery~~ owo)

The planets of a birth chart take on the symbolic meanings often attributed to them, including the Roman gods/goddesses many of them were named after. The planet Mars, for example, is named after the Roman god of war, courage, fighting spirit, desire etc. - so these qualities are reflected in the role of Mars in a birth chart by symbolising our willpower and how we go after what we desire. So pretty much the role of the planets in a birth chart is to symbolise the different parts of a person's identity, while the zodiac signs (Aries, Taurus etc.) describe the qualities of the individual person in that part of their identity.

Here's a lil list of the astrology planets and their general meanings from the top of my head c: c:

    Spoiler
[Note: the Sun and Moon are called planets in astrology (likely for the sake of convenience), even though they technically are not that]

Ascendant/Rising - not actually a physical planet; symbolises personal appearance and first impressions
Sun - your self-expression and individual identity
Moon - your inner world and emotions; what gives you a sense of security; how you react to outside influences
Mercury - your intellect, interests, and way of communicating!
Venus - how you give and receive love, affection, beauty, happiness, appreciation, principles
Mars - how you get what you want and overcome obstacles; how you assert yourself; your willpower, sex drive, desires, energy
Jupiter - your area of expansion; your faith, beliefs, ethics, ideology
Saturn - your area of limitation; where you are restricted and challenged; what you take seriously
Uranus - your area of change and disruption; where you are unpredictable, original, and experience changes
Neptune - your area of intangible perception; your imagination, spirituality, subconscious, psychic intuition
Pluto - your area of intensity and transformation, obsession, depth, truth, power

There are also other symbols that act like planets in a chart but aren't real planetary bodies (such as your Nodes and Chiron among others)

I hope this answered your question on planet roles~

Ooh thanks so much @AvantCoffee! <3 That's really helpful! I hadn't known that the meanings correspond with the Roman gods and goddesses :O

I know right!? :O <3 My love for Greek/Roman mythology paid off by overlapping with my love for both introspection and astronomy :’’))) (an unlikely yet fantastic combination, 11/10)

And you’re super welcome @Liminality! <3 Glad I could help explain the astrology planets :)

Fun fact~ each zodiac sign is ‘ruled’ by one (or two) of the planets, which basically means that the planet essence is filtered through the sign and gives the sign its traits. So, in your case of being a Capricorn, your sun sign’s ruling planet is Saturn ✨ (general vibe being limitations & challenges xD), which gives Capricorn and those with the sign traits of being responsible, hard-working, realistic, ambitious, self-controlled, capable - and overall indicates that these people are soberly aware of limitations, be it their own or in their surroundings, and that they have both the ability and want to overcome life challenges and achieve goals and success in their life c:

dang this reply is getting just as long as the last one lmao
I could ramble about astrology related things forever but i will stop and spare u :') thanks for your curiosity, Lim!~

Ahh no worries about long replies! I think it's so cool that you know astrology so well you can just rattle it off the top of your head <3 It's a really neat skill! I enjoyed reading your fun fact about the 'ruling' planets as well! :D
