Have something short:
ash slips through the crevices
and settles in lungs
worn thin from years of blazes -
(I totally don't care if anyone wants to chat here ^^ I think this fits today's challenge, minus possibly the last line, which is beyond my ability to deal with right now, grammar-wise)
the smoke runs in spirals
three thousand feet above the ground
falling like discolored snow
to settle on windshields and between blades of grass
the smoke runs in spirals
three thousand feet above
falling like discolored snow
settling on windshields,
between blades of grass,
obscuring everything in shades
of orange and grey. -
the skies were thick with smoke
that settled in the valley haze
from fire lines that broke
deep within the blaze
but slivered rays of sun creep between the fires
and lay out the heavens in smokey layers -
I see lot's of fire imagery - hopefully the fires die down soon over on the west coast!
I like the picture you paint in the last poem Mesh - the fires have a beauty and a gravity even in their destruction. The phrase "valley haze" is my favorite for some reason - because I see "valley"s as being really idyllic and lovely, and then "haze" is like smoke screen over that - so the contrast is interesting.
