Daily Challenge
Here is where your Daily Poetry Challenges will be released! Don't forget to post your results in your logbook if you try out the challenges.
Monday, August 6
Challenge 1 -
Write a poem that utilizes a personal memory of camping or vacation. This will encourage your skills of starting to write from a concrete example, and working on making your poem personal and specific.
Tuesday, August 7
Challenge 2 -
"Exciting, Wonderful, Challenging" these are all great adjectives to describe Camp NaPo! But your challenge today is to write a poem without a single adjective. This will test your ability to make the language come alive by using strong nouns and verbs rather than relying on adjectives.
Wednesday, August 8
Challenge 3 -
Write a poem that utilizes at least two distinct voices. They can be different narrators, or the same narrator at different times, or some other way to use two voices. This will help you exercise your skills in characterization. Bonus points for any "camp sounds" you can incorporate into this piece.
Thursday, August 9
Challenge 4 -
Write a Villanelle that references all of the parts of S'mores (ie. gramcrackers, marshmellos, and chocolate). Okay if you want to leave the s'more part out you can, but do try to write a villanelle! It's fun!
Friday, August 10
Challenge 5 -
Think of an object that starts with the first letter of your username, now think of an object that starts with the last letter of your username. Make a list of their similarities. Now try to craft a poem that uses both of these objects as the subject of a metaphor or simile (could be one compared to each other, or two separate comparison for something else entirely). This will test your skills in creating unique comparisons and finding connections in your poetry.
Saturday, August 11
Challenge 6 -
Fire's an important part of camping. For this challenge make a list of everything you think of when you think of fire. And I mean every word you can think of relating to it.
Okay, now that that's done, write a poem about Fire without using any of those words. This will help you work on moving beyond the obvious, avoid cliche's, and explore unique word choice.
Sunday, August 12
Challenge 7 -
The last challenge is to post your best poem to the "Talent Show: Official Camp NaPo Contest" thread. This will challenge you to not only create poetry enjoyable for yourself, but encourage you to have the confidence to share your poetry with a bigger community. Thanks for participating in Camp NaPo!
