- work on submissions in May
Poetry
- write at least 1 poem a week
- submit poetry to at least 1 contest a month
- set topic for poetry project in March
- write towards project in April
- stop writing "new poems" in May to work on edits

January Goal Evaluation:
Did not get much done on my big paper I'm working on.
Definitely got at least one poem written a week, submitted poems to two contests, & set topic for my poetry project.
February Revised Goals:
- Need to get a realistic timeline figured out for the a academic paper & start writing, even smaller chunks.
- Keep writing one poem a week.
- Finish this draft of poetry project, submit it, then set it aside for the time being.
- Get Camp NaPo more organized. -
Purposely didn't update at the beginning of March because I did not get half of what I wanted to get accomplished in February EEEEkkkk - but March writing-wise has been actually going really well. I got the news that I'm getting a poem published in April! So I feel like all that submitting actually paid off a little, and finally finished and submitted my chapbook draft which was a huge multi-month project.
February Goal Evaluation
- Did Camp NaPo Prep
- Wrote like 15 poems in Feb.
- Got an unrealistic timeline for the academic paper, and have opened the word document a couple times.... so that's a big fail, but progress?
- FINISHED the draft of the poetry project and I am so, so, so proud of that.
YAY. Took until March 15th but it's done. Even though it won't get accepted this time probably (even if corona wasn't a factor) at least I have something completed that I can submit to other competitions and now have done it once. I can do it again. Nice job alliyah. <<< And with this, I pretty much have accomplished my poetry goals for the spring way ahead of schedule, unless I'm going to make another chapbook draft to submit to a different contest which is unlikely.
March Goals
- Get all NaPo threads up, set personal NaPo goals
- Don't write too much poetry (save some energy for April)
- Write. Write. Write! the academic paper that I keep putting off. You can do it!
- Submit 5 more poems to poetry contests by the end of the month. -
March Goal Evaluation
what in the world, how is it like 2 weeks into April already?
- only submitted like 1 more poem, rather than 5, and removed 1 for another deal -> so net impact of zero.
- did a little on academic paper, but then corona virus hit the world and I lost all motivation.
April Goals
-Finish NaPo
-Figure out poetry submission goals for summer
& do more looking into possible places to submit the academic paper / consider breaking it up into 2 pieces
- Maybe start 2nd chapbook project? or theme brainstorm if time allows???
- Submit 5 poems to contests -
Good stuff happened in April writing-wise, wrote too much poetry for April. The poem that was accepted to be published finally came out, and I got news that I'm one of the top 10 finalists in the chapbook competition that I entered -> being chosen as a finalist is very affirming (especially because most of the other finalists had multiple poems & some actual legit books of poetry published) but it means most of my better poems are currently held hostage if I want to avoid simultaneous submissions; so that has put my poetry submission goals on hold for a bit.
April Goal Evaluation
Actually did pretty okay on my goals in April
-Finished NaPo ! (wrote 70+ poems!)
- Did not figure out a poetry submission goal for the summer lol
- DID brainstorm like 3 ideas for new chapbook projects
* Family Tree / Heritage Themed
* Religious Themed: Either - Liturgical Year or "God of the stars"
* And then I have an art/poetry hybrid idea -> but I need to think about it more.
- Only submitted one more poem, because I'm waiting for the results of the chapbook thing, since a lot of my better poems are tied up into that right now - and I don't want to mess with simultaneous submissions.
May Goals
- Complete "#MayHaiku" Goal - 7 Haikus, post in forums. [done]
- Consider submitting some of the "quarantine poems" to places, since they will hopefully not be relevant in a couple months.
- Get results from chapbook on May 12th, get the immediate visceral edits done -> then leave that one alone for another month I think.
- Set actual Summer writing goals.
- Brainstorm a bit more on potential chapbook themes / competitions that the themes would be good fits at -> maybe start at least collection process.
- Edit 3 NaPo Poems. -
May went so. quick. my goals were not very lofty because I had finals to deal with, so I kinda covered them? Need to hopefully get some long-term planning done in June/July though.

* Start Collecting for above Chapbook Draft.
* Survive my June Term & Finish all 4 papers for that

For July, some of my goals were not writing so that I could work on organizing and other projects. Most importantly I finished all of my school work, I feel like I'm really on top of all my internship stuff and am getting into a schedule with that, and I finally posted the KotGR SB which has been something I've been hoping to finish up for like 2 years and opens up some other KotGR possibilities which is great. For August - I really want to start intentionally working on this new chapbook draft(s) - there's actually 2 that I'm working on, but I need to start getting organized with that and maybe do some long-term poetry goal setting and determine if I'm interested in submitting my old draft to another contest or this new one or what.... good luck to me!

Wow so I actually have some poetry-motivation and direction again - I won honorable mention for that national contest which had like 150 entries a couple weeks ago. And it's not a "big" deal by any means, but is a bit of a confidence boost & is affirming enough for me to feel like I'd really like to get back on track with my 3 chapbook ideas. So here's my revised goals for now until November.
It's honestly a bit ambitious to assume I can get 2 chapbook drafts in 3 months, when it took me around 3 months to get just 1 together. But whatever - I'm going to try it, if it ends up taking twice as long that's not the end of the world since I can just keep throwing chapbook project 1 out in the universe until the other two are edited/completed. I'm also trying to submit 5 individual poems a month. And probably need to get back into writing 1 poem a week again.
Fall Goals
* Revised Drafts of "River" by Aug 31
* Collection of 10-15 "throwaway poems" edited by Aug 31
* Outline "Liturgy" by Sept 15
* "River" + "Heritage" combo draft by Sept 30
* Complete rough drafts "Liturgy" + "Heritage" by Oct 20
* Get initial feedback on “Heritage” by Oct 29
* Submission Round 1 for "Heritage" by Oct 30
* "Final" edits on both projects done by Nov 25
* 15 individual poem submissions by Nov 30 (5 poems per month) -
Aha! So many bright and shiny goals I had for Fall! Going to push back my completion deadlines back a bit, but progress has been made in October!
Fall Goal Progress
* "River" has been revised into 2 versions
* Edited several NaPo poems
* Outlined several versions of "Liturgy" still not sold on a plan
* Decided not to do "River" / "Heritage" combo draft
* Have submitted probably over 15 poems to 6 different places, and got a response on one, no acceptances / denials yet!
Fall Goal Update
* Complete "Heritage" by mid/late November?
* Complete "Liturgy" by end of January
* Revise a version of "River" for state competition mid March -
