What are some of your favorite anime genres? Do you even have a favorite genre? If you do have one or more than that, what got you into those genres? Was it a specific anime, or was it several? Do the people around you like this genre as well? If they didn't before, did you get them into it?
There's a lot of questions that I could ask about this topic, and the ones above are just some. So, to make things simpler, I'll suggest this as the point of discussion: your favorite genre(s). Interpret that however you want to, and talk about whatever questions mentioned above (or others!) that you really want to.

My current two favorite genres are shonen and isekai, though I'm trying to branch out.
I watched a lot of the shonen animes growing up - Naruto, Saint Seiya and Yu Yu Hakusho were my childhood - and I loved seeing all of the epic fights. There was just something magical about watching the underdogs defeat the bad guys. Even now, I'm still in love with the genre. I've currently being watching My Hero Academia, and one of my favorite things to watch is about to happen - a tournament! I think shonen is one of the perfect genres for me.
While isekai in theory is a genre that I love, I have mixed feelings about the anime available for it. Ever since I saw Sword Art Online, I've fallen in love with the idea of an average person suddenly being brought into a fantasy world. I think that's why I was so obsessed with writing Minecraft fanfiction when I was younger. My problems with the genre is the abundance of harems; I don't find any enjoyment in watching a guy and his harem. I want to see the action and adventure. -
I usually watch Shonen or Shoujo, but I don't really have a favourite.

Shonen is my favorite so far. I honestly didn't have anyone to show me manga or anime and it was never available. So most of what I've seen or read has been what I could get my hands on in the last six months. As you can see, I'm still looking around.

The problem with me is that I change too much lol. At the moment one of my favourites is slice-of-life (which I used to dislike), however some consistent favourites of mine are sci-fi, supernatural, and psychological. BONUS POINTS is it's a mix of those three (i.e. Psycho-Pass, Ergo Proxy, Serial Experiments Lain, Tokyo Ghoul, Parasyte, Death Note). I've moved away from Shonen and Shoujo recently for no particular reason, but I'm sure to get back into them.
I used to think slice-of-life was boring and that nothing substantial ever happened in them. Then somehow I got back into it after high school, and I started to appreciate the simplicity and characters and episodic nature. My guess is that the change in my real life gave me a new lens of the genre, which in turn drew me to more episodic anime in general. I absolutely fell in love with Mushishi for these reasons ~
My younger sister and I watch anime together, and overtime I think we've had an influence on each other. She doesn't really like darker anime (she watched Puella Magi Madoka Magica thinking it was innocent and got scarred by the ending), however I've got her into liking sci-fi and 90s anime more; Sailor Moon has nostalgia for me because we watched it together. I've watched more romance and Shoujo anime because of her, and being a secret romantic I can hardly be against it. -

Recently I have been getting into a lot of Shounen and action. In fact I just picked up the first six volumes of Inuyasha (phenomenal manga btw, however it is pretty old by the standards of most people.) Other than those two genres I normally decide to get Shoujo manga.

My dad was the one who first got me into anime. We both like sci-fi, action, and dark fantasy, but I also enjoy the psychological and horror genres, as well as shonen- which he refuses to watch lol.
A few of my younger siblings also like shonen, so I've also watched some of the more popular/mainstream shonen shows with them (ex: FMA, FMA:B, Soul Eater, Naruto, Demon Slayer.. is AOT shonen?).
I'm not usually a fan of slice of life, romance, or comedy, but I do like a few movies that fall in those categories. -
(MY DAD TOOO. The anime he got me into however were those 90s anime that was all usually about the bloody wars and times in Ancient Japan. I was pretty much a kid back then.)
