I find it really difficult to learn a language without speaking it frequently with other people. At the moment I'm learning Spanish, so I've been trying to speak it as much as possible with my siblings and parents, but they only know as many words and phrases as I do.

The only native speaker I'm able to talk to (and not very often) outside my Spanish class is a friendly lady who owns an heladerĂa near my house. Where do you all find other people to practice speaking with?

I don't get a lot of speaking practice, which probably explains why I'm nervous as heck meeting people who are fluent! But I generally speak French with my dad, who is a little rusty, and two friends, one of whom studies French in school and the other has lived in a French-speaking country.

I'm pretty good with pronunciation, but it's conversational efforts that really need work, and those can be really tough to find!

Depending on your comfort with the idea, there are a number of subreddits where you can find language partners. Namely, r/languagelearning, r/Spanish, r/spanishhelp, and r/LearnSpanish. I know not everyone is comfortable communicating with strangers online, but if you are, that's a wonderful way of getting practice in.

@Que That's great that you're able to have conversations with your dad and your friends! It's definitely super helpful to have a couple people to practice with that you feel comfortable around and know well. Personally, it can be stressful trying to speak Spanish with strangers because I don't want to make mistakes and embarass myself, but there's no pressure when you're speaking with family and friends.

@Sheyren Thanks for the advice. I've actually been looking for a way to speak with people and practice Spanish through the internet, but I wasn't sure where to look so this is very helpful.
