Most of them don’t make it to that old, but they usually get very thin and suffer long-term health problems.

So what do they plan to do to help the children have normal lives after they defeat the king?

They want to try and return them to their families, maybe remove their memories of the experience for the more traumatised ones.

There is a type of jewel called a karina, which is excellent at removing bad memories.

Yes, actually! In a book series my sister reads, Robyn Silver, it mentions that a rose quartz crystal can remove bad memories. I just changed the name

What do the people around Evelyn in the king's court think about the situation - the lords and knights that are surely in his service? Do they know that he's using child slaves to mine jewels? Do they support his decision to do that? If Evelyn is considering killing her father, surely it's not just her own conscience she's got to battle with - what if she was accused of regicide? Even if she escaped punishment, would her people ever support a queen who killed her own father, no matter the reason?

@Saen no, there isn’t really a cost. But if an inexperienced person uses it it may remove the wrong memories or yes, they may surface.
@DarkPandemonium the guards and some of the more evil knights know, but most of them believe the same as Evelyn.
As for your second question, I’d never considered that! I think yes, there will be a lot of discontent.
