Title: The Guardian of Hibernia
Brief Description of Story:In Hibernia's greatest hour of need, a spark of hope shines from beneath the shadows. A young bandruí guardian, Ciara Einrí. Being warned of the treacherous druids by a fortune-bearing púca, she tries to stop the druids from discovering the Heart of Hibernia, only to barely escape with her life. The druids capture the Heart, the source of the land's magic. If the druids harness their newfound power, all the Fea of Hibernia are doomed. The young bandruí and her companion Frei, aided by the guardians of Albion and Celtica, must rescue the Heart from the clutches of the druids before it is too late.
Story's Genre: Fantasy
Setting: Late 5th century Ireland

Other: This is still just an idea with some scribbles for an outline. So I might change some things later on or I might not be totally sure. But the questions asked will help me think and put the story together a bit more.

So what makes the druids the bad guys?

Weellll in actual history, the druids were pretty creepy people who (according to Julius Caesar who apparently had some eyewitness accounts) practiced human sacrifice and other kinda evil things, so that inspired me to make a story where the druids were actually the bad guys. In many Celtic fantasy stories, the druids are on the protagonist side of things.
However, not all the druids are evil. (in real history that's not exactly the case but oh well, this is fantasy) The druids of years ago didn't abuse their almost lord-like position in society and do whatever they wanted. Unlike now.
Ciara is actually a druid though. Bandruí just means a female druid. -
Oooh, this sounds really cool! I especially love how you have the divide between the good druid Ciara and the bad ones trying to take control of the world's magic. Are there other druids like her that want to stop the bad ones, or are the protagonist's only allies non-druids?

So far, they're only non-druid allies. But there is the guardian of Celtica who I haven't made up yet, and they could possibly be druid. I'm not sure about that part. It does center mostly around the fae helping her rather than other druids though.

Oh, interesting! I apologize if this is something that won't really come up in the book, but what will they do after they defeat the druids? They must have some importance in the world if they exist in the first place. Is Ciara going to make a new group, or are the bad ones somehow going to become good? Or will they just kind of die out?

So since this generally major weakness of mine, I have to ask about the druids' nefarious plans! What they plan to do with the heart? What do they hope to gain controlling the land's magic?

Being Irish, I'm so into this!
I have to ask though, one of the big things we learn about in history class here is early Christianity in Ireland (I just checked and it started in 432 AD apparently). Are there going to be monasteries and illuminated manuscripts?!?! (I just think that Irish monasteries would be such good settings for respite for heroes in fantasy stories xD I mean that's basically what they were). -
Do you have a supporting character that doesn't show up too often, but still plays a big role in the story? Or do any supporting characters that do tend to stick around?

@Saen First question: Good question. I’m still thinking about that. Yes, Ciara will either start a new group or “the days of the druids will end.” Really I’m not sure. This is still an idea. *makes a note*
Second question: Actually yes. There is this one selkie character that helped Ciara and Frei escape from pirates (probably gonna make them Norse pirates too). She’s very important for that part of the story but doesn’t “stick around” (selkies never “stick around” humans unless forced anyway).
@BlueAfrica If they have the heart and use its power, they can use it to find and capture the hearts of the other lands too, establish their own guardians, and pretty much rule the world. In short. More development is to come.
@StellaThomas Irish? Awesome! (now I know who to come to for help hehe) I haven’t thought about the relationships between my characters and any of the Christians in Ireland or anywhere else. I might mention it. But I don’t think a monk would think well of Frei (a púca) coming in and making a disturbance of things. That’s the only issue traveling with Frei, he’s a little crazy and loves to make the most random and weird things happen. But the monastery would provide Ciara with protection from the druids when she first escapes and they’re hunting her. -

Describe the selkies in your story. What are they like?

Well, so far I've only put one in there. They're the selkies of Celtic mythology, the seal-people (actually all women as far as I know, I've never heard of a male selkie). Selkies are known for only obeying a human if that human holds their sealskin, otherwise there's no amount of pleading that will get them to listen to you. They're not evil, they're just their own. Anyhow, the one in my story actually helps Ciara and possibly Frei escape from pirates. What makes it weird is that selkies never help humans. The only reason this selkie does, is because she knows, like all the fae know, that if the druids close the gap to the Otherworld, they'll all become mortal and powerless.

Are there any other types of creatures in the story besides the ones previously mentioned?
