Solfege, yay or nay?

  1. Ok, so I didn't join choir until I came to college so I had no clue what solfege was. Well as a music major you have to take a bunch of theory classes, half of which are called Aural Skills. Thats where I learned it and I love it. I still have trouble with the hand signals but other that I've got it down. (I think)
  2. Big yea to solfege here! I'm of the firm opinion that it helps a TON with learning music.

When I was in high school, my director required that we solfege our parts in our music (in pencil, of course). We'd spend a week or two singing in only solfege until she was sure we had the intervals down.

(As the student conductor, who was expected to learn every part, I ended up with a LOT of handcramps and a much-abused eraser for when I made a mistake.)
  3. Ah solfege fun but challenging.

I want to do with you what spring does with the cherry trees.
