  1. *is totally confuzzled*
  2. If I may go ahead and weigh in a bit, I think we should advertise the KB. I think that should be the first priority, but I also think we should try to somehow combine the both. If the link log combines both of them I say we go with that, if not then maybe the anthology idea is better.

KB is the a great way for some people to get some essential help with their writing. Having a collection of poems and other literary is great but having something that can be easily accessible and help people with writing is even great.

Either way I love the idea! : )
  3. Now that we've gotten down to the wire, I think it's about time we pick one and stick with it. We still have to edit out kinks, and then actually start or do the project.

The two project ideas both have pros and cons.

    Anthology

Ask YWS to submit works into an anthology. Categorize the anthology first breaking it up into the type of literature it is, then over-all themes of the literature.

    Pros
We would be able to allow users to submit their work for the weekend project.

We might be able to buy it or download it onto something physical.

It makes people on YWS feel like they've produced something for all their time.

It can advertise YWS externally if we sell these somehow.

We would be creating a project that we'd have to follow through and we'd get to keep working on it after the camp was done.

    Cons
Selling would require splitting up royalties which means bank account information, so we probably couldn't sell them.

Printing is expensive even, so it might not be possible either.

Having people submit their own work all across YWS would mean we'd either have a book with thousands of pages, or we'd have to select the ones we wanted in our anthology. This requires judging works as a group to try to get this done.

It would take considerable effort to get everything classified into subjects because we would have to go to every piece, check the themes they assigned themselves, and then see if we agree.

While this might help collect a bunch of really neat works, it might not get a lot of foot-traffic because people might just want to prove their work is in it, and move on instead of reading it.

    Knowledge Base Thing

Create an anthology of the knowledge base. While we wouldn't have to actually include the text for the articles we choose, we could create a collection of the links, or a link log as the others are calling it. We would have to decide if we wanted to include a summary of what is on the other side with the picture link, or an excerpt from the article, or write a response article that would show the pros and cons of each article.

    Pros
We would be advertising the Knowledge Base by providing links to the pictures we create and spreading them around YWS on the weekend.

We could provide something quick and easy to send to people in reviews [the linked pictures] and give others the same opportunity to use it.

We would be encouraging YWS to use the Knowledge Base by spreading the links around and exposing some of the articles to other parts of the site.

This project is shorter to accomplish. We'd just need to find the articles, create the images, and collect them. On the weekend, we'd just be spreading the work we did around and perhaps inviting the rest of YWS to submit any articles they didn't see that they wanted to see for us to do.

This can create another concise introduction for new members to tackle learning about the knowledge base.

    Cons
We might not get any more activity out of it because people might just ignore the advertisements.

While picking the articles, there are a lot of duplicates with minor variations which would require we go through and decide which we believe would help our target audience more.

If we posted this somewhere, it shouldn't be in the Knowledge Base because it's attempting to advertise the KB, so we'd have to find a way to make it interactive with more members and a new home.

Writing the summaries or whatever sort of snippit we do, would fall to us, and if a lot of articles are pushed to be shown off, then it might be difficult to get to them all within the single day.

We don't know who has photoshop to create the images. I know I do, but who else? If there are like 30 ones we have to do, that's going to be a lot of work on one or two people.
  4. I still think the KB project is it.

[b]Why:[b/] It sounds simpler and will require less time. If anything we can drop the pictures or only use 10 or so to make it easier.
The Anthology will take way more time and we only have two days.

I first the motion on the KB project.
  5. I second the motion on the KB project.
  6. I have no stand point on both options
