Yo.
Spoiler
Anolk frowned. “This impression again.” he commented. “I really don’t get it. I know that the Combat Clans don’t get along that well, but from what I just heard, these Glyph people don’t sound good at all. How come they’re supposed to be heroes of Pujila along with the others?”
“Because they’re good at fighting.” Shirlu said, shrugging nonchalantly.
“…But they’re bad people!”
Lilyacoo took a step forward, staring into Anolk’s eyes. “Havalpo didn’t tell you yet, did he?” she said in a grave tone. “The stuff I’ve been through ever since I was born. Get it through your thick skull, kid: spoils go to the winners, and the winners are not always worthy of respect. They don’t have to be heroes, because they’re not all goodie two-shoes like you.”
“I… I know that.” Anolk said, sighing to himself. “I know that already.”
Lilyacoo put a soft hand on his shoulder. “Yes, you do.” she continued gently. “You’ve seen more things than I have. But here, in Pujila, people only get to rule after a confrontation of some kind. It’s… It’s just how the place works. Might be a bit of a culture shock to you, but you can’t be confused about it anymore. If you mess up something at Glyph Isle because you want to go all hero again, all of us will pay the price. My Coo-Hatch might pay the price. And you won’t get to save anyone else.”
Anolk nodded, a fiery determination back in his eye. “Aye, Captain!” he exclaimed. “Thanks for the reminder. I’ll be on the lookout again in case of trouble!”
Lilyacoo grinned. “That a boy.” she whispered as Anolk climbed the main mast of the Coo-Hatch, scanning the horizon with vigilant eyes. Lilyacoo discreetly gestured towards Shirlu and they both moved inside her personal cabin.
Anolk took a deep breath, remembering his past experiences so far. His battles. His struggles.
If what it took for him to be the hero of Pugiland was to fight any enemies that came his way… then, he would fight without stopping.
And he would defeat every single one of them.
“Is there a problem, Luna?”
Lilyacoo closed the door of her cabin and turned back, unfazed by the flickering light of the place’s candles.
“…Did… Did Anolk do anything weird lately?” she inquired. “You two trained a lot these past few days. Did anything strange happen ever since he came back from Blade Tower?”
Komm raised an eyebrow. “Uh, not really?” he replied, uncertain. “I mean, he got strong enough to keep up with me now, I don’t need to restrain myself anymore – in fact, I’m pretty sure he could beat me if I don’t use that spell. And even then, with his Wind Ring, he could find a way to…” Shirlu frowned. “…Huh. The Wind Ring. He doesn’t use it that much anymore, I guess. And he likes fighting more than before, but to be fair, he needs to get used to his new weapons and all, so I don’t think that’s… weird.”
“You’re not in the best position to judge that.” Lilyacoo commented. She put a hand to her chin, lost in thought.
“…True. But you still hate windows and love candles, so I guess you’re not all there yourself either.” Shirlu replied, giggling to himself. “Well? Why did you ask?”
“Just… Just making sure he’s fine.”
“Really? Well darn it, you’re just gonna make me jealous again, Luna.”
Lilyacoo gazed at Shirlu. “…You don’t believe me.”
“I don’t. And before you ask, I don’t believe you because you don’t care about anyone that much, and you know I don’t mean that to offend you. There’s something going on here that you don’t want to tell me about. So, spill the bills, or let me outta this witch’s lair.”
Lilyacoo crossed her arms. “Y’know, if I’m your lady and you’re my knight and all, doesn’t that mean you should blindly trust me and not ask questions?”
“I’m also your friend, which means that I ought to know the tiny things you hide from me to make sure you’re safe.” Shirlu retorted.
“Yeah? Then what’s your gender, Gourmet? Tell me that and maybe I’ll consider filling you in.”
Shirlu's smile disappeared. “…That’s low.” he whispered. “That’s very low, Luna. I won’t ask again, I guess. But don’t waste my darn time with questions if it’s to sink that low.” with that, he walked passed her, visibly upset. Without turning back, she took hold of his arm, stopping him in his tracks. For several long seconds, they stayed like this, unable to say another word. Unable to move.
“…Please, Gourmet.” Lilyacoo whispered, like the lost little hare she once was. “Seriously this time. Boy or girl?”
The Gourmet Blade turned back, raised his other arm and gently poked her cheek twice. She abandoned his arm to touch her cheek, finding a tiny ball of ice stuck in her fur.
“…Save it ‘til next time, huh…” Lilyacoo whispered.
“Captain! Captain Coo! Shirlu shouted from the top of the mast. “There’s a problem!”
Lilyacoo and Shirlu shared a last gaze before running out of her room. Shirlu had come down from his spot high about the mast and was pointing at something on their far left. The faraway outline of a massive ship could be seen in the distance, with raging waves crashing against its hull.
“That looks like a ship.” Shirlu stated, matter-of-factly. “Vessel-sized, from the looks of it, so it’s probably a transport ship.” he frowned. “…But it’s not moving. Even without wind, these usually have giant paddles to keep going. Weird.”
“Not to mention that they’ve got a cloud that’s raining right above them, and no other clouds anywhere.” Lilyacoo added, gazing up at the clear blue sky above. “Something’s up. Probably a curse.” she discreetly gazed at Anolk.
“So, these people are in danger. We’ve got to do something!” Anolk exclaimed.
Lilyacoo laughed out loud. “Man, you’re becoming so predictable it’s scary. C’mon big guy, go do your job. Shirlu, you’re coming with him.”
“A-a-a-and if this is some sort of trap and you’re attacked while we’re both gone?” Shirlu objected.
