  3. Yo.

    Spoiler
“Ready to go, by the way.”

Lylatt took his eyes off the text once more, noticing that the goggles around Valmond’s top hat were… different. “Did you change the lens?” he asked in return.

Valmond nodded. “I can, uh… I guess you might call that ‘fast-travel’? Yeah, I can fast-travel with this one. Makes it easier to go back to camp.”

    “I see. In that case-”

“Oh no, there’s no rush!” Valmond assured. “You can keep reading for a bit. I know I interrupted.” he shrugged. “I don’t think anyone’s at camp right now, they’re busy.”

“Fair enough. Then yes, I don’t mind finishing a bit more before we go. I suppose I can continue while we’re there.”

    “Yup!”

Lylatt sat down one of the stairs’ steps before resuming his read, hearing Valmond approach — no doubt to sit next to him.

Just like Shirlu ha described, what Anolk saw was indeed a giant blue frog, sitting cross-legged on a luminous gray cloud, looking down on the group with its golden eyes and horizontal slit-like pupils. Dozens of steel-like spikes appeared on its muscular forearms, and on the shoulder level, a strange tattoo could be seen: a black heart with a spear head coming out of it, with white bat wings on either side of the shape and a red, horizontal “3” below.

“…O-o-o-oh, boy.” Shirlu whispered as he stared at the tattoo. “Sir-ranked Familiar.”

“Meaning?” Anolk asked, slowly approaching his friend with Derlassia still in his arms.

“Think Royal Dalvyon, but for pets.” Shirlu specified, slowly pulling out his twin Popsicle blades. “The difference being, Dalvyons are usually feral, but this one has been trained by a someone to reach this form. And whoever trained it did a darn good job at it.”

“This is Sappo’s only warning.” the giant frog thundered with a calm, yet imposing voice. “Sappo’s task is to guard this ship and its sole occupant so that her slumber may continue, until a new task is given to Sappo. Put her back in her bed, or feel Sappo’s wrath if you don’t.”

“But… But I don’t know you…” Derlassia whispered, shocked by the frog’s words. “I remember that you put me there... But I want to leave this place! I don’t want to stay here alone, sleeping forever!”

“Don’t bother, kid.” Shirlu intervened. “A Sir Familiar’s loyalty is absolute. Whoever wanted to put you there didn’t want anyone to rescue you, and anyone who tries would have to fight this Sappo guy eventually.”

“And I am going to do just that.” Anolk assured. He gazed at Derlassia. “Can you walk?”

    “I… I think so, but…”

“Shirlu?” Anolk called. “Bring her back to the Coo-Hatch. I’ll deal with him.”

Shirlu blinked. “First off, Luna’s gonna strangle me if I come back without you, and second, I’m not entirely sure fighting this thing alone is your, uh, best survival plan. Not that I think you’re weak, but… Well, you can’t swim. One mistake and you’re history.”

“Hey, Shirlu.” Anolk turned back, offering a bright smile to his friend. “Been through worse, remember? Just make sure she’s safe. I’ll be fine, and you know it!”

Shirlu let out a sigh. “Welp, now I know how Havalpo felt after you went inside Blade Tower. I’m not that worried, but… Still.” he commented before forming a Veloswift Glyph symbol in the air. Anolk delicately let Derlassia place her hesitant legs on the ground. She stared at him, visibly worried as well.

“Why… Why are you doing this?” Derlassia whispered. “Why are you going so far to protect me?”

Anolk giggled. The question reminded him of Valcoo. “Do I need a special reason to help someone in need?” he replied, locking his eyes into hers. “Don’t worry about me, Sia. This is going to end up in a confrontation. But we’re in Paash, here.” he pulled out his trusty blade, grinning at his adversary. “…And I wouldn’t have it any other way!”
