What are your top ten movies of 2014?
Here is mine.
Note: I have yet to see Selma or Whiplash, but I bet they would make my list.

Honorable mentions (or movies that often make other lists but not mine: Interstellar, Big Eyes, Boyhood, Transformers 4, The Raid 2, Theory of Everything, A Most Wanted Man, Captain America, Wild, Bad Words.

10. Imitation Game A well written, exciting spy thriller which managed to draw a lot of laughs. Benedict Cumbernotch's performance is top batch.

9. Days of Future Past For a movie that's able to wipe up Brett Ratner's mistake, be exciting, and make a lame character one of its best parts, it was pretty awesome. It also managed to outdo First Class, which was a pretty good movie.

8. The Grand Budapest Hotel Wes Anderson doesn't disappoint in this very artsy, stylistic work that manages to be one of his best films.

7. Edge of Tomorrow If you can make Tom Cruise a coward, can grab a good story (with not the best ending), and make it better than everybody thought it would be, then remake Batman and Robin. This was awesome.

6. John Wick The most fun I've had in a theater, I believe, ever in my short life? It manages to redeem Keanu Reeves with beautifully shot scenes and just well executed action.

5. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes YEEEEEEES! This just all pieced together and was just awesome! I can't wait until the next one.

4. Gone Girl Once again, giving it more praise than it deserves. It has twists, turns, character, and excitement that manages to keep with me until the last frame.

3. Nightcrawler I'm going to be disappointed if Jake Gyllenhaal (I believe that's how you spell it) doesn't get nominated. Hands down, the best performance of his career in a movie with an exuberant script.

Now, these next are switched around in my all time list, but I will explain

2. Love Is Strange It made me want to cry. The message it sends off about love, struggle, and death is just mesmerizing. Great performances from Molina and Lithgow help this already 10/10 script be played out. This will be etched in my mind forever.

But not as long as....

1. Birdman I can't put this movie into words. The cinematography was perfect, excellent. The directing was great. The acting was great. It just worked. The reason why this is over Love is Strange is due to the film making overall, not just the impact.

I've yet to see American Sniper, Selma, Unbroken, The Grand Budapest Hotel, or Still Alice, all of which I'm sure I'll love.

Nightcrawler and Whiplash are tied for #1 . I can't decide which was better. I've been fortunate enough to see most of these movies in the theater, and it's been awesome. Can't wait to check off the rest of my list!

So, it's taken me a while this year to watch everything I've wanted to check out, though there's still a few films I have still to have seen.

But I'm pretty sure of my top 10 list for last year, so here it is:

Not yet seen:
The Theory of Everything.
Inherent Vice.
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya.
Exodus. (This was one of my most anticipated of last year, and I have yet to see it!!)

Honorable Mentions:
The Imitation Game, Oculus, Gone Girl, Wild, Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, John Wick, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Raid 2, Foxcatcher.

Top 10:

8. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
7. Birdman.
6. Boyhood.

I give Guardians so much credit, because I didn't have any faith in it at all. Wasn't interested. But yeah, there you go, my favorite of the year. Hard to believe.

Pretty solid year for films. Not as good as 2012 or 2013, but still very good. Next year is going to blow them all away!
