    Hi Squills Readers! I've been writing for Squills for a while now, so I suppose it's time to make an author's page! :) I'll share a little about me here.

    Joined Squills: My first guest article on March 19, 2018. I applied soon after and joined the team on March 25th.

    Because: I've been a long time reader of Squills, and have always appreciated being able to stay up-to-date with the latest YWS news. I joined Squills initially because I wanted to be able to draw readers' attention to all the wonderful poetry events and news we have on the site, especially NaPo! Since I first joined, I've expanded to different types of Squills articles that I think people on the site would be interested in.

    Writing Preferences: On YWS I mostly stick to the poetry side of writing, and in Squills it's about the same. I like covering poetry events, giving poetry perspectives, and also covering special events like contests and review days too! Occasionally I'll do an interview or a piece that highlights something in the forums. There's so much going on in YWS, there's a lot of options to cover!

    General Information: I've had some academic writing published, though I mostly stick to poetry on YWS! When I first joined YWS I was in High School, now I'm in Grad School working on my Master's degree. @tgirly is my sister. I play the violin and the piano. I like to crochet and do other crafty things too. And I believe the ultimate color is dark cyan, though my favorite color is actually red... it's complicated. Also I love the YWS Olympics, NaPo, and I am an enthusiastic supporter of the Unclassified Anti-Conspiracy movement on YWS (#LongLiveBigBrother).

    Oh man, I totally agree with you on Empoerers new clothes effect. Love the depiction! This is something that people will fall into on the writing side too, they try to make it so complex only a wizard who can see the invisible wave of their life events can actually find the message, a message they fail to find themselves a year later.

    I have been thinking of it more and more in my own reviewing lately, and I really think poetry ought to accessible at some level to every person, with or without poetic instruction or author's explanations. Stay tuned for part two of it - which I think addresses a bit of what you bring up Aley about it being relevant for writers along with reviewers. :)

    All I have are questions of sanity, do you have the answers? I cannot connect the dots for you, do you have the pen? I cannot tell you this isn't a ruse, do you have the blues? I may unveil nothing, but later there may be clues.

    Um, thanks for those riddles @269609, it sounds like you've had a strong reaction to the classified movement and the press surrounding it - any opinions on what the classified hashtag's meaning is?

    I loved your Poet Spotlight article, alliyah — I thought it was something a little different and new, and I loved reading all of the advice from different poets!

    Thank you @neptune! I really enjoyed hearing from them as well - and I'm trying to think of some other themes to frame interviews frame other potential interviews - as I think it helps if there's a focus rather than just "poetry" or "writing in general". It'd also be fun to just focus on an just one individual of course, but hearing more than 1 perspective I think also helps people from feeling like they need to "speak for everyone" or listen to just 1 take on the subject.

    That Chicken Appreciation Post you linked made me tear up a little.

    On a serious note, your poetry perspective game is going strong! The whole suspicious reader issue is a great source of discussion and I'm really appreciating it. c: <3

    @Coffeeism the "This Month in History" article always turns out a few gems -I can only hope that if YWS is still around in 5 - 10 years that someone else picks up the column and is like "why in the world was all this nonsense going on in 2019?". One of my favorite things to find in those are future predictions - there was a forum for "where am I going to be in 10 years" that I happened to find 10 years after the fact - and then there was an apocalyptic storybook that was predicting what 2020 was going to look like too. XD

    Thank you for your comment about the poetry perspective series too! :D Those are really fun for me to write. Where do you fall in that poetry debate --> Team "Poetry has rules" or Team "Poetry has no rules" or somewhere in between?

    Eek sorry for replying this late. xP It's pretty nostalgic to think of looking back in 5-10 years. When I was scavenging older posts from around 2007 for the Classified thing I found profiles linking Myspace accounts and forum banter from older members when they were young teenagers. It's a time capsule. Haha I'm interested to see what that 2020 storybook predicted. xD

    Hmm... I guess I fall into no rules, but that doesn't mean I prefer wildly structureless poetry. I have the same opinion for visual arts; there's some questionable art out there, but if someone gets something out of it then that's art fulfilling its purpose (even though some would argue that art doesn't need a purpose – but even that belief is a purpose... I think I just confused myself). To me all poetry is valid, and poetry rules are more like tools for creating a type of poetry – that which is sensible, structured, organised, digestible, recognisable etc. My personal preference generally gravitates to poetry that adheres to some rules. It's subjective, and it depends on what you define as poetry. If poetry is technique (rules, style and rhythm), then most experimental poetry goes out the window. If poetry is the expression of ideas and feelings, then I'd say anything goes. But what do I know amiright d:

    I really appreciate Carina's experimental poem in the Literary Spotlight top 100. It explores this exact debate and it's super creative~
