Camp 2016: Captive

20 posts in this topic.

  1. Here I will share my progress (hopefully daily) so maybe I'll stay more accountable :P

    Captive is YA contemporary romance.
    Blurb:
    Spoiler

Molly has a plan. In the summer before college, she's going to volunteer in the Philippines and she's going to re-kindle the strained relationship she has with her long-time crush, Noah. Noah also has a plan. He wants to prepare for college and hang out with his girlfriend.
But when something on Molly's trip goes wrong and tragedy strikes Noah's family, all of their plans are thrown off track. Noah starts to question the future that has been laid out for him, and Molly will have to fight to make it back home to Noah.

This is actually draft #4 and it's significantly changing from previous drafts. I already have 21,483 words and I'm hoping to write 1100 words a day. So hopefully by the end of this I'll be around 55k. That won't put me at the end, but I'll be much closer!

When I post my word count for the day, I'll also post the last line I wrote that day because I think that's fun. :) I'll still be doing weekly updates over on my wall.
  2. Day one: 1,153 words

Last line: "He literally always wants to be around you and talking to you and he’s not really like that with anyone else."
  3. Aaaand I'm already behind :p Today was really busy though so hopefully I can make up some ground tomorrow!

    Day two: 433

Last line: "The plan is in motion."
  4. Day three: 1934
Camp total: 3520 (now I'm somehow ahead of target!)

Last line: "I already miss it."

Weekly update is on my wall! :)
  5. I was too overwhelmed with the knowledge that I have to go back to my internship tomorrow (the kids have been on spring break) to do much of anything today. Back into the grind for seven more weeks. I love my internship, but it's tiring.

    So day four: 11 :P
    Camp total: 3531

Last line (and only line): "Things were weird with Noah after Jenson and I broke up."

    *slow clap for me* :p
  6. Day five: 1262
    Camp total: 4793

Last line: "But I watched him walk away and tried to reconcile that I had probably just ruined everything."
  7. Day six: 724
Camp total: 5517 (about one day behind but I'm confident I can catch up. this is a really busy school week.)

Last line: "But the realist in me, which is quickly taking over my optimistic side, says there’s no way that’s the case and I’m just kidding myself."
  8. Day six: 0...

    Day seven: 1157
Camp total: 6674 (now officially two days behind, but I intend on this being an excellent writing weekend).

Last line: "Katarina shrieks and lunges at me, nearly knocking me out of the tent under the weight and power of her bear hug."
  9. (yesterday should have read day seven and eight)

    Day nine: 2121
Camp total: 8795 (back to being a day behind!)

Last line: "It’s about believing in her."
  10. Day 10 & 11: 00000000000000000

Day 12: 942 (back in this!)
    Camp total: 9737

Last line: "“I’m shaking in my chair,” He teased."

I should be at 12k so I'm 2263 words (two days) behind. I think I'm still in this!
  11. Day 13: 538
    Camp total: 10275

Last line: "I don’t know how many times each of us has tried asking our captors some variation of “where are we and where is everyone else?” but they just look at us like we’re complete idiots."

I probably could have done more today, but I finished a scene that was causing me trouble and now I'm quite sure what all I want to do with this next scene. Figured instead of forcing it, it might be good to think about it for a while.
  12. I'm no longer writing in sequential order because I think it'll be easier this way. I have multiple POVs going and it's hard to write jumping between them.

    So day 14: 0
    Day 15: 34
    Day 16: 1689

Camp total: 11,998 (should be at 16k. optimistic about still catching up :p)

Last line: "I had to know what was going on."
  13. Day 17: 0
    Day 18: 1124

Camp total: 13,122 (should nearly be at 20k...)

Last line: "“What’s going on Molly?” Becca asked, clearly concerned about me."

Progress update is over on my wall! :)
  14. Day 19: 1457

    Camp total: 14,579

Last line: “I’m pretty confident you’re worth waiting for.”
  15. Day 20: 1032

    Camp total: 15,611

Last line: "There were eight days before Homecoming and I didn’t have a date."
