I am a man, but am extremely pro-choice. I just read in an article today that doctors in Kansas are legally allowed to lie to pregnant mothers about their fetus' birth and genital defects if they suspect that the mother might abort them. UM... that's scary to me. And if you live in Kansas you might want to change hospitals. Just saying...

Dang. Do you happen to have a link to the article?

Hey PervadedByDarkness, I agree that it is a really terrible thing to happen and should not be legal, but let's not use ableist slurs. This group should be a safe space for everyone, and that term you used stops it from being one.

Knew that, but thanks for sharing!

    tw: mentions of rape

"If you think abortion %u201Cmurders babies", but that abortion in the case of rape is acceptable, then guess what? You are a [removed] nasty human being.

Because a fetus that is the result of rape is demonstrably and biologically no different than the fetus that results from consensual sex. If one if a baby, then so is the other.

So it boils down to this: If you differentiate between the two, then you are using pregnancy as a tool to punish women for having consensual sex. And that is sick."

    Language warning at that link.

"Even when a person is dead, bodily autonomy trumps right to life. After all, they still need permission to harvest organs from a corpse to save other lives. I just think that women should at least have the same right to bodily autonomy as a corpse."

I don't know where this quote is from, sadly. Where I read it it was posted without a source.

The video is great, and those protest signs make me mad. They show extremely late-term abortions, almost all of which are of wanted babies, and due to complications in the pregnancy which threaten the life of the mother, child or both. They don't show normal abortion pictures on their signs, probably because they know that people won't respond emotionally to something that doesn't look remotely human, and in most cases just looks like a little clump of nothing in particular.

Accidents happen to people who are not prepared. Take teen pregnancy for example, yes those girls shouldn't have done what they did but is making a teenage girl have a child, give up her whole life, and be made fun of for all of high school really the proper decision. If a girl makes a mistake that is one thing, punishing her I agree with, but is it right for her or the baby (should any child have to go through having a teen girl for a mother). To sum it up it is not right to make any one go through pregnancy, child birth and motherhood if they are not ready, does that do the baby any good.

"By saying that you only support abortion in cases of rape, you are just proving that the %u201Cpro-life%u201D movement isn%u2019t about caring about life, it%u2019s about punishing people for having sex outside of the terms you deem appropriate."

From here (well, it's actually from a deactivated blog, but it can be found at that link too).

You know, no matter how we try and twist the truth, abortion is like a double edged sword. No matter which side you walk on there's going to be pain. If you chose to kill a baby, yes a fetus is basically the workings of a baby, it hurts. But if you chose to keep that baby when it was conceived under bad circumstances, well that hurts too. But that's life, it hurts. You just have to do what you think was best at the time and hope that you didn't screw up.
People can have their opinions about abortion, but they should still make it legal, and if you don't like abortion then don't do it. But don't take away another persons right to have an abortion. Because if you do your taking away their ability to make those decisions that could either be a major screw up or a great thing.

This is the topic for the discussion of abortion. Like Pigeon said, we should probably use this instead of posting on the wall.
