"I was a merchant before I was chosen. I dragged a cart through the Ink. Don't patronize me. And I think that because I've seen it. If you pulled down the collar of my shirt to the left, you'd see a mark on my collarbone." Malvis shook her head to make the hood of her cloak fall. Her hair was a dull brown, curled just enough to make it look even more limp.
-
Sammy leaned forward a bit out of curiosity. She scoffed when she couldn't see anything before warely pulling the collar down to see what's there.
-
It was a brand mark in the perfect shape of an eye. The skin was still shinny. “Slitheriana left this for me.”
-
Sammy sat back in her chair and covered her mouth in shock. For a moment the officer didn't say anything. Only stared at Malivs with a succession of emotions playing out on her face.
"I... How? How do you have that and your still alive?" -
“It’s not my time to die yet. I still have so much left to do.” Malvis’s eyes drifted to the two-way mirror. “So much. The Arcane chose me and I will fulfill that promise or die trying.”
-
The professional interview was long over. Sammy asked more out of a desperate need to know what was going on than her wanting any promotion. Knowing what she knew now she doubted she would be promoted to anything but a grave.
"So what... Your the actual prophet to the Almighty? People believe that on its face?" -
“Of course they do. It was prophesied.” Malvis held her hands to the sky. “I thought you all were obsessed with the Mouth’s prophecies.”
-
"You would be surprised how many people don't buy into that bull. We're just trying to make a living here. So tell me Prophet." Sammy leaned forward and glared at Malivs. "How do you convince people like me to die for you. How do you prove that your not just some magical whack job and you are actually here to do some good."
-
“I don’t ask people to die for me. I despise that notion.” Malvis scoffed and rolled her eyes. Her hair turned black. “I ask people to fight for themselves, for their children. To fight against all the nights they went to bed cold and hungry, all the times they worked for hours and got nothing in return. Fighting for me means nothing. I fight for myself just fine. But I’m not making the world better for just me.”
-
Sammy sighed and leaned back. The hair change was certainly something special but the officer was far more focused on the actual message. "I suppose that would be far better than a poster."
Sammy looked over her shoulder to the glass for only a moment. It was all she needed to make a horrible decision. Sammy stood up and put her hand on Malivs throat. "I think we're done with this nonsense. I'm sure on of my superiors will love to have a turn with you."
The officer took her hands off Malivs and walked to the door. Leaving only a key tucked under Malivs' collar. -
Malvis sighed. “I see. Disappointing. Send them in, then.”
