OH yes.it's a big mess, and it makes me mad, because I'm letting them do what they want. I mean, suddenly there is a romance where there isn't supposed to be, and a bad seventeen year old guy where there was supposed an old man nobody suspected. Not that my characters suspect THIS one. my MC Avelyn falls in love with him at one point, and if you don't mind my asking, WHERE did that come from?XD
I'm writing their stories and I give them some nice moments every once and awhile. So long as they don't withhold the story (more often than not they just want the bad parts to be over), I'm fine with it.
Eh...I actually wrote a story recently, sort of a late-night pondering of what would happen if my leading lady showed up and confronted me. She pretty much raked me over the coals, and knocked me unconscious at the end.
In my WIP, my main character has been shunned, kidnapped, knocked unconscious at least seven times, nearly died twice, and keeps having everything she loves ripped away from her. Yeah.
Letssee... I have sister being ripped away, outcast, disowned, friends mutilated/killed, regularly has to make sadistic choices between position, what's right, and friends... there's some more mutilation, forbidden love, and generally the MC putting their lives last. But that's very spoilerfull.
Kay. So the MC for this year's NaNoWriMo has an awful disease. So does her dad. She has no friends/everybody hates the disease, so they tend to stay away from her. The older guy she likes has zero interest in her. The one guy who does 'like' her is a creeper. Her dad dies, along with some other peeps. She has to kill one of her favorite dogs (FYI, they raise dogs. That's the family business). Lots of bloody, dark stuff happens, and at the end she has to leave out of fear that she's going to end up infecting the guy she likes (who STILL has no interest in her, btw). If she weren't already supposed to go COMPLETELY INSANE, I would be worried about her. Then she goes to the disease-ridden capital city, and dies a martyrous death helping test for cures for the disease. This is my favorite character ever, guys. Her appearance is Lacey Sturm crossed with Captain Jack Sparrow's walk. And THIS is how I treat her. XD
Victor is scared to shake hands with people he doesn't like in case his hands get hurt somehow because his hands are his life and if anything happens to his hands, he has no job and therefore no life, and even his piano-playing is twisted up in the importance he attaches to his hands. So of course he gets his fingers broken. Then broken again in a bad attempt to fix them.
I like to put my characters through terrifying situations where gore/blood/death is certain. Plus, they can never fall in love because I'll kill their love interest off. XD
One of my older charactors died I believe 3 times, became blind, starved on a regular basis, had her shin bone broken so the bone stuck out, face burn off, lost a hand because it was wacked by a hammer so many times, slowly poisoned to death, and had to be exiled because she was forced into becoming imortal. My neeew one hates me because she got branded on the face (like how you would brand a horse), got wipped in public, starved, stabbed, shot at, lost her entire family, and because I took away pretty much everything that gave her joy.
I took away one character's humanity completely, and now his only chance of redemption and/or happiness lies in his death. Which kind of sucks because he's immortal at the moment.
My character if the illegitimate son of a dragon-demon and a noble woman who threw him away as trash when he was born. He lives in constant fear of turning into a bloodthirsty monster, and the woman he's in love with is the betrothed of his best friend.... yeah, he hates me.
