The crows seemed to be acting strange that afternoon as they swarmed around a particular house in Whem Street. The sky was cloaked in grey, and if that didn't dampen your mood, then the pouring rain would. The crows’ caws sounded distant as the rain muffled its noise. If it weren't for the foreboding feeling in the air, and the blaring sirens of the police cars that were on their way, and the crows (that were believed to be bad luck), the street would have been more serene.

I knelt down beside the body that lay sprawled on the floor. I couldn't help but let a tear escape my eye when the old man struggled to raise his withered hand to my face. The look in his eye so distant. I could hear Cassie cry on Drakes, who just held her tightly and sad nothing. I quickly wipe my face as I heard the police arrive with the ambulance along it. They strapped Mr. Laurence making sure not to severe his bloody wound on the chest.

Cassie's eyes were rimmed with red as she followed the stretcher up to the ambulance despite the rain. She stood outside until the ambulance was out of site, before coming back in with what seemed to be more tears or just the rain water on her face.

I focused on trying to replace the sadness in my heart with anger. Anger for whoever killed Mr. Laurence. If I ever saw their disgusting, ugly, cowardly face I would- "Zelda." Drake's voice brought me back. I noticed I had punched a hole in the wall. "Ugh!" I groaned. Some times when I got so annoyed I needed to take it out on something to feel better, but the huge hole in the wall didn't make me feel better.

" We need to get out of here." Drake said quickly in a low tone. Cassie stopped crying to look up at him confused. “What-" I began but he cut across. "We don't have much time. The cops are going to come back for us."

He began tugging on our arms to the back exit where there was a vast forest. I pulled back my arm, “but we didn't do anything!" I shouted. Drake stopped and turned to face me. He was annoyed I could tell, maybe because I yelled and he wanted things quiet. "Do you think they're going to believe us? They’re the ones who pleaded for our death sentence when we tried to rob Mr. Laurence." he spat but noticed how harsh it came out and kept quiet. "But we changed. And if we run away we really will look like guilty." I said. Drake knew I was right but he still wanted us to go. "I don't want them to hurt you two. You’re my only family." his face looked pained. As much as we wished or choose to believe it, we weren't blood related. The three of us were orphans. I found Cassie alone on the street and stuck with her fighting of the weird people who were after us, but when Drake joined us at first he was totally rude, he slowly began to become over protective over us. I was able to relax more. Thanks to his mean cold looks no weird guy's approached us. I decided that what he said was best for our family and so followed behind him towards the door but as we got there we found a nasty surprise. A police man casually leaned against the door giving us a nasty smile, “they always think they can run away." he said.

I was put in a small room with olive green wall and a table with two chairs at the center. I didn’t like the cop being in there with me even though he was just removing my hand cuffs; it made me feel all giddy. I guess it was due to past disturbing memories. He left after setting my hands free and I relaxed taking a seat at the chair to the farthest end from the door. "Great, just great! 16 and I already have a criminal record." I muttered to myself pounding my fist into the table. That’s when the police officer walked in again. I tensed again as he took the seat on the other side of the table. I couldn't help but eye him. He looked up at me and seemed to jot something down, "Tell me about your relationship to Mr. Laurence." he said still writing something down before looking up at me.

"Um...He took us in and raised us like his own kids." I said a little unsure at how to answer that question. He looked at me as if expecting more," Mr. Laurence taught us a lot of school stuff that we missed out on. He forgave us for when we first saw him and tried to rob him." I shook my head in shame,"We were just hungry..." my voice trailed off. There was no excuse that made it any less better. I didn't like talking about Mr. Laurence when he wasn't there. The thought of how badly he was wounded or the fact that I never thanked him for his hospitality made tears well up in my eyes, but I held them back. As if reading my mind the police officer changed the topic, "you're quite the fighter aren't you. I have reports of you beating up boys in your school." he said. I shrugged, I wasn't big on boasting, "Well they had it coming for them, picking a bone with me is not what you want to do. And they also bother Cassie so I couldn't hold back."

Somewhere in another room Drake sat on the floor. He liked being a rebel to annoy people. It’s part of his "don't come near me" charm. When the police came in and saw him there he just stood there staring at him, “You want to have a seat?" he finally asked.

Drake seemed to admire the wall all of a sudden because his eyes never looked away from the wall across him. "If I wanted a seat I would have taken it by now." he said with a cold look in his eyes. The police found this annoying and took the chair and faced it towards him and sat down. "Who does this 18 year old punk think he is?"

The policeman thought. The police leaned closer to him , his voice low enough for only Drake to hear. "Listen kid, your 18 I could just send you away to jail right now but I’m giving you a chance. Now if you cared about your sisters you will answer my questions." Drake was enraged he didn't want to follow the man’s orders but if it was for his sisters, he'd just have to grin and bear it.

Cassie was claustrophobic. The small room seemed to be caving in on her. "Make it stop. Make it stop!" she began yelling with her eyes shut tight and her hand to the sides of her face. A policeman walked in and put his hand on her shoulder when she wouldn't respond. When she saw him, she began screaming, "Don't touch me!" throwing herself back. She fell on the floor and looked up at the police man with fear in her tear stained eyes except she didn't see him, she saw a horrible figment from her past. The policeman could only pity the little 14 year old girl before leaving the room and in his place came policewomen who found Cassie huddled in the corner. The poor girl was completely innocent but she still had to carry out the interrogation.

I was let out after I explained how my school life was. It was completely irrelevant to the case but still what where they looking for? So far the policeman seemed strangely kind. I didn't have time to think when someone tackled into me. I looked to see that it was Cassie who was just hugging me tight. It was evident on her face that something happened. I tried to calm her down before Drake could join us. Not that I liked seeing her this way, I didn't. It’s just that Drake would make a scene. The police woman that was with Cassie had come over. She smiled at us and gave me her hand to shake, "My name's Susan and you must be Zelda, I’ve heard a lot of good things about you from Cassie." she said in a sweet voice that took me by surprise. I'm even more surprised when I respond by smiling, "Where's Drake, he's taking awfully longer than us?" I asked in a polite way that I never knew was possible for me to do. Susan's eyebrows burrowed." I think threes something I should show you." she said, leading us to a room at the back.

the room was dimly lit, but thankfully spacious. The room was empty except for the three of us. There were Many small screens on one side the wall. Suzan took a seat in front of the biggest screen and ushered us to sit on either of her side. Then she put on a video of Drake and his interrogation. He seemed to be staring directly at us. As he answered his first question, "I never liked him to begin with. It was annoying how he got in our way. I would have run away from his place if it weren't for those two. He says we're his family when in reality, he just wanted to lock us up!" Drake was unbelievable. He was able to say all those lies without a look of guilt. I really couldn't believe my ears. All those years and he kept that anger pent up. The police officer asked him about school.

“The place is a waste of my time!" those words were true but the way he expressed it, was... Then the officer asked him about his teachers "They all hate my guts. Except the Biology teacher he's just always talking to me like we're buddies and gets involved in my business a lot." he said. "Oh. But Mr.Krats has always been defending you in school problems?" Drake seemed to drift his eyes a bit towards the police but then returned his gaze, "How do you know his name?" drake asked. "Just an old pal." he sighed," In any case, did you ever have the intent of ever wanting to harm Mr. Laurence?" drake gave a brief moment of silence before saying," Every single day."

The video ended there. I faced Suzan who answered the question I was about to ask."Yes, Drake has been arrested although he hadn't really said that he murdered Mr. Laurence." my mouth was wide open with shock. "Mr. Laurence died?" I asked. Suzan looked away, “He didn't make it to the hospital."

I actually like it

Great! Other than the gramatical errors Stellabeam mentioned, this is really good, Biggles! It's well written and interesting. I especially like Drake's character. :)

Is this a chapter of a book? It's fairly well written and it seems like you have a good story going. You mainly have punctuation and capitalization errors. You could also work on some of the transitions so they can go smoother and so it has a easier transition.for the reader.
