My Boyfriends a MoonGod - Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I'm shattered. All I want to do is collapse on the kitchen floor and sleep but Ive got dishes to do and homework to forget. Ive just got back from school and I never want to go there again, if it was going to have this affect on me. Its only the first day back after the summer holidays and already I am counting down the days for half term. It had been busy, noisy, smelly and just hectic, and me dithering as always wasn't helping matters. I had forgotten how horrible school could be, the teachers moaning "Mia why are you wearing trainers?" and my friends annoying me with their nice tans because they all got to go on posh holidays abroad while i spent two weeks in a caravan while it rained non stop. I really enjoyed my holiday actually. I went swimming in the sea with my brother and sister while our dog pranced about on the sand, barking at seagulls and jumping over holes that people had dug just for the hell of it. The beach had been deserted and just perfect, so I didn't feel embarrassed about running around in my swimming costume even though the sea was freezing and the sun kept hiding behind the clouds, so I didn't get a tan. Not that i wanted one anyway. I may be as pale as a ghost but I liked it that way, even though my blushes were even more scarlott than it was for normal people.

I warm my hands up in the soapy water, my teeth beginning to chatter because I am so cold. Its only the first of September but already I feel like I might turn into an ice cube, then defrost when global warming finaly kicks in. Normally in times like this I would reassure myself that if I'm this cold, it surely means Christmas is on its way, or if its after that then spring will be here soon so I can sit in the garden and read while blossom falls on me and the sky is clear forget me not blue and the air is warm and it smells so sweet... I shake my head to forget the daydream. Its NOT nearly Christmas, and its definitely NOT spring or summer, or heading that way. Its going to be like this for the next sodding eight months and not even Christmas can brighten my spirits, its blooming four months away and I doubted it would be any fun anyway. If it was anything compared to last Christmas i would hide in a cave somewhere until the stupid day is over. Last Christmas was a Christmas to remember for all the wrong reasons.

It had been the day that we all found out. The big one. The big dirty secret that tor out family apart like a Christmas cracker. The day I found out that my dad didn't want us anymore.

We had all been sitting around the diner table, laughing, joking, like one of those adverts for sofas that they put on around christmas. My little brother Sidney had laughed so much at a joke from a cracker (that wasn't funny at all, he thought it meant something completely different) and he was choking on his "white wine" that was in fact lemonade. My big sister Judy had been applying heavy makeup to mum so she would look like a goth like she did. mum had been giggling because she had had a glass of wine and trying to hold her head still so the black lipstick didn't smudge, and i had been munching away at the celebrations box, throwing some to our dog Jessie that was slobbering all over my jeans and was already too fat. I hadn't noticed that dad was unusually quiet and hardly eating anything at all, looking pale and distant, which is not like dad at all.

This happy scene stopped when Sydney was playing around with dad mobile and started reading out his text messages, no one really listening and dad had wandered out to the kitchen, looking as strange as ever. Sydney had been laughing at all the messages dad had. There had been hundreds of them, and when Sydney decided to read one out that was from a woman called Maria mum, me and Judy stopped laughing and listened in horror as Syd said "What does Lingerer mean? because this lady says ""thanks for the lingerie, Jordan, it was just what i wanted"" what does it mean, mum?"

Mum had gone pale and her mouth fell open slowly as if she was going to be sick. It took me a moment to realise what was going on, but I was soon knocked back to reality when Jude had to hold mum back as she went to run to the kitchen, her face murderous. Dad was still in there, totally unaware that we had found out his dirty secret, and the blood drained from his face when he came back into the dining room and saw all of us looking at him, a small angry tear rolling down mums cheek.

It had been a long night. Me and Judy took Sydney to bed even though he was too old now to be forced into his pyjamas and read a bedtime story, but he didn't put up much of a fight once he heard mum and dad arguing downstairs. Once Syd was settled me and Judy crept to the upstairs landing and sat down by the banister, Jessy sitting next to us and wining, as we listening to our parents screaming at each other. At first it was just mum who did the yelling, calling him swearwords i had never hear her use before, but soon dad starting yelling too and when we heard a plate crash we were about to run downstairs, but they carried on screaming at each other, so we guessed no one got hurt.

Sydney shuffled from his room and cuddled next to me, and i put my hands over his ears so he wouldn't hear, though we all flinched when more vicious shrieks pierced out ears, more swearing and more plate smashing. Soon dad was out the door, not even glancing at us even though he knew we must be there. Mum ran after him, her makeup smeared across her face because of her tears and her yells beginning to sound sore. Dad drove away and mum just stood on the driveway staring after him, still yelling, but mostly sobbing now. She didn't sleep at all that night, none of us did. she kept ringing dads mobile but there was no answer. Later on mum told me and Judy that dad had been having an affair, for over six months with a woman who owned the restaurant we used to go to regularly. Dad had been leading a double life and had been fooling us all, and had been seeing the woman Maria when he told us he had a work thing to do. Mum said he had had affairs before, flings, which had totally shocked me. Mum had been keeping it a secret for so long that dad was a lying pig, and mum vowed that she would never see him again, this was his last chance and he blew it.

I haven't seen dad much since. He is still with Maria, and apparently their happy, but I'm not. I still hate him for what he has done, and I can't imagine ever forgiving him. Every time I think of him I remember mums crumpled face of pure devastation and I hate him even more. I don't care if him and Maria have bought a house in Spain and I can go visit any time I like, I don't care that he said he would buy me a laptop and a new mobile and with my name crusted on it in diamonds or whatever, just because hes now loaded i still don't want to know. Sydney is even distant with him now, even though he used to adore dad and beg him to hug him all the time. Judy doesn't want to know either, she pretends he doest exist and she keeps avoiding his phone calls, and she is getting moodier and moodier by the day without him around to yell at her to buck her ideas up. Mum is better now but she is still shaky, she is still a bit raw about the whole thing. I don't blame her, he ruined her life and destroyed there marriage. But she still loves him so much, I can see that.

"Mia!" mum yells from the living room "Have you done those dishes yet?"

"Oh - yea!" I quickly get on with the washing up again, having been standing there for over two and a half minutes gazing out the window while the hot water tap ran. my hands are scolding hot so I quickly splash in some cold, the tub overflowing with bubbles.

"Hiya," Sydney wanders in, pulling at my brown hair in his usual greeting "Do you think I'm getting any taller?"

I look at him, shocked to see that he really has grown several inches without me realising. He almost reaches my shoulder, which is a big achievement as he used to be a little squirt. Well, I'm not that tall myself for fourteen, but still, Syd looks huge!

"You do!" I grin, flicking bubbles at him "Soon you'll be towering over me like a big beanpole,"

"No i wont!" Syd says "I'm going to have big muscles and be like uncle Derek, mums big brother"

"He hasn't got that big muscles,"

"He does! Look, I'm getting them already!"

Syd holds up his scrawny arm and bends it as if to show muscle, but i just laugh and flick more water at him "Your as skinny as a matchstick,"

"So are you, Ive seen you at school, the rest of your class is way taller than you!" Syd sticks out his tongue and dodges me as i try to kick him, and he runs away laughing and I scowl and pile up the dishes on the rack to drain. Mum walks in carrying a pile of dirty laundry, mostly Judy's black Gothic clothes that she insists must be washed after just one day of wearing it. Mum looks flustered and i dry my hands and go over to help, but mum shakes her head and says breathlessly "No, its alright love. You go and sit down, you look knackered,"

Thank you! I get to sit down and relax in front of the TV, with permission! I dump my bag on the table in the dining room (we don't eat there any more) and go to my room, thudding up the stairs as if my bed is calling to me. I enter my sanctuary of my yellow bedroom and fling myself on my bed, sighing with happiness and switching on my tiny TV. The days worries melt away as I laugh at an episode of friends that has been repeated so many times. Rain begins to lash the windows, and the sound is so relaxing that i start to feel my eyes droop... until Sydney rushes in and jumps on my stomach so I am winded and gasping for breath.

"Mia? You've gone cross eyed!" Syd laughs, trying to cross his own eyes as I push him off me.

"That hurt! Your bony elbows went right into me,"

"Oh, sorry," Syd said, shrugging, not sorry at all "I need help with the computer anyway, come one," he grabbed my hand and i groaned and followed him out the room, glancing over my shoulder and sighing as i left my warm comfy bed where i had been dozing off. Oh well, I yawn. Ill get some shut eye later.

"Mia, your doing it all wrong," Judy snaps "Here, let me do it,"

"I'm doing it just fine," I say "I'm not stupid,"

"Well you could have fooled me-"

"Shut up!" I yell, and she grabs the potatoes I'm mashing and starts doing it herself. I scowl and say "It looks like you've been punched in both eyes, with all the makeup you have on,"

"Just bog off," she says, thought she sues a much ruder word "Go play with your dolls or something, let me do the dinner,"

I storm out of the kitchen and slam the door behind me just to let her know that she is the most annoying sister in the world. I go into the living room to find mum wrestling Syd to the floor, trying to put some drops in his eyes.

"Mia- help" mum gasps, Syd shoving her in her big boobs so she doubles over as he tries to escape "His eyes' got infected again, hold him still, will you?"

I grab Syd by the shoulders and hold him still as mum gets her breath back and tries to squirt the drops in, Syd winging and kicking out. Its over in a matter of seconds and Sydney runs out the room howling and rubbing his eyes.

"This cant go on," Mum says "I'm gong to have to take him to the doctors again, those drops arnt working fast enough,"

"its only because he keeps rubbing them," I say, slumping down on the sofa and sighing. Mum looks up and says gently "Was school alright?"

"No... Well, it was the same as always,"

Mum kisses me on my forehead "Its bound to be hard going back, after the holidays."

"Hmm," i nod. Mum leaves and I hear her going into the kitchen, and the moment I hear her shut the door Syd creeps in and jumps on the sofa next to me. I put my arm around him and he whispers "I don't like you,"

"Why?"

"I don't like those eye drops, and you sat on me,"

"I didn't sit on you!" i said, grinning "I held you still because your just like a wiggly worm who cant stay still,"

"I still don't like you," Syd mumbles as he snuggles next to me. I wait a few moments and say "Do you like me now?"

"Nope,"

I sigh and say it again.

"Well, I'll like you if you get me a drink," Syd said, and I laughed and said "Get it yourself," and I cuddle him close and ruffled his hair, which i know he doesn't like but i do it anyway. I wished he could stay cute forever, but i knew one day he would turn into a miserable teenager like Judy and I wouldn't get to cuddle him like this anymore. He's only nine but I know it wont be long now until he wont need his big sister anymore.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I roll over, sighing, thumping my pillow so it would be more comfortable. I lean over my bed and squint in the darkness, trying to see what time it is. My watch says its one in the morning. I sigh again, annoyed that i haven't got my beauty sleep yet and the next morning ill look like hell. i was freezing when i got into bed but all my tossing and turning has made me hot and i shove the covers away and swing my legs out of bed, poking my feet into my slippers. My pyjamas are new and smell like plastic and it has given me a headache, and i reach out and take my glass of water, drinking it even though it is stale and tastes like dust.

Standing up, i move over to the window and make the decision of opening the window, just for a little while so I don't feel so stuffy.

And then i see it. A pale hand, and a flash of dark hair disappearing from sight as someone outside moves away from my window. I an frozen for a second, petrified, and i realise that i had almost dropped my glass of water. It takes me a moment to get the feeling back into my legs and i rish over to the window and slowly take a look outside, but i see nothing. It is pitch black, the stars are out and the street below is dark and deserted. the houses are dark and still, and nothing moves and the only thing i hear is y own thumping heart. I swear that someone had just been at my window, even though i knew that was impossible as there is no ledge for anyone to stand on and i can see no ladder. I take a deep gulp of air after i have realised i have stopped breathing and continue to look out the window, but i see no one, i cant hear anything. After a long minute I sigh and realise that it must have been a trick of the eye, or maybe i really am asleep and this is a dream, though it feels incredibly real. I slowly pull my eyes away from the window and jump back into bed, shivering again. I keep my eyes open and stare at the window, hoping that there really was no one there at all. I soon grow tired and convince myself that id didn't see anything, and I felt my eyes flicker even though i was fighting it. And then before i know it i am asleep and dreaming of walking into school naked and everyone laughing at me. I haven't dreamed of that since i was little but it was still as embarrassing as ever, even though i know deep down that it is a dream.

I loved the descriptions of each charector as you have managed to get into each of them in detail, but not so much that it is boring, keep on writing, i was hooked. There were some spelling/grammar mistakes but if you tidy those up a bit then this is a brillient first chapter.
Keep writing this, great potential:)

This is a really cool idea, Gracee. I’m excited to see where this goes

Now, I see that already two people have mentioned the grammatical errors and the “I” thing. Well, they are right. That is something you must be conscious of when you write. Just keeping that in mind, reread this and you’ll notice the spelling errors as well.

About your story, I think you have a pretty solid beginning. I have no complaints at this point. I would have liked to hear more of your MC’s thoughts on things but other than that, I think you have a good start.

Keep on Writing! :D

Wow, long chapter there, you may want to break it up. I find that it helps me when I do line by line critiques. From what I've read it looks good.

Your grammar.... *giggles* you need to work on it, I found quite a few spelling mistakes that you need to fix.

If you do want a line by line critique, PM me. I will do it if you want me too. Anyways good writind and keep up the good work!

Gracee,

Hello. Welcome to YWS - I hope you’ll love it here, and not get too addicted (: Anyway, onward with your critique, yes?

What caught my eye immediately, and are more or less easy to fix:

-> Capitalize all your “I”. That’s an absolute necessity, and absolute minimum. Contractions - use them. Also capitalize anything else that is needed. Of the obvious are beginnings of sentences, parts after periods.

-> Dialogue punctuation:

“Aly likes her cat,” she said. “Blah, blah.”
“Aly likes her cat!” she shouted. “Blah, blah.”
“Aly likes her cat?” she asked. “Blah, blah.”
“Aly likes her cat.” She turned to look at XYW. “Blah, blah”.
“Aly,” she glared at him, “likes her cat. Blah blah.”

If you want a line-by-line crit, feel free to PM me. But I think you’ll manage to correct this on your own by reading through the text one more time.

Ending-section-comments: “I”, “I”, not “i“, please. Don’t make my eyes hurt.

***

That was the boring old grammar and punctuation. As to your story - do the above. Just do it. It’s hard for me to be objective as is now, heh.

Overall, though - I think this is an interesting intro chapter. You will be continuing this, yes?

Interesting - yes, and promising. I especially liked the dialogue. From there we come to characters, and I think Syd strikes me as m favorite of the crew. Drops scene was nice. Mum was cool, too (:

I look forward to seeing where this will lead to.

Cheers,
Esme
