Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),
Hi! I'm here to leave a quick review!!
First Impression: Okayy this was another wholesome story. Somehow I've managed to run into two of these in a row which is certainly an incredibly rare occurrence and this one is definitely even cuter and more wholesome than the last despite starting off with murder.
Anyway let's get right to it,
Twenty one year old Samantha was sitting in a meadow pondering…life.
Yeah, that was it. She was pondering life.
Samantha wasn’t a human, even though she felt like she was. She was a clown demon.
Her siblings were Halloween monsters, too. Her Mom was a human, who had given birth to Halloween monsters. Her father, who was also human, didn’t like that and he tried to get rid of them, but…
She killed him! When she was fifteen, too.
Too bad her Mom, one of the people she loved in life, had gotten killed by her Dad.
Well this was quite the start. Wow... lots of murder already, but then we are dealing with a demon here so I suppose maybe that shouldn't be the most surprising of facts to discover here. Things most certainly are heating up quite a bit here. Well let's see where this takes us from there.
Now, she was responsible for taking care of her siblings.
Which can be tiresome, since they’d do anything to annoy her. Just about anything.
She needed some time alone, some time for herself-
“Hey! Who are you?” A voice asked behind her.
A very childlike voice. It sounded something like a little girl.
She stiffened. How did…how did she find her? Samantha thought she’d be alone.
Samantha turned around to face the child.
Goodness, she was adorable!
Ohhh well this is an interesting one. Going right from how much Amaranta is currently not the biggest fan of having to take care of all of her siblings straight to the idea of this one child being adorable like that.
The little girl had long, messy and tangled blond hair covering her face, but she could see a large blue eye peeking out of her hair. The girl appeared to be wearing a lavender dress and…hold on, why wasn’t she wearing any shoes? The girl had white, dirty socks on, but no shoes. If she had to guess, the girl must have been three or four years old.
Samantha smiled in spite of herself at the girl’s appearance and the kid backed away from her.
She stopped smiling.
Why did she have to scare people so easily?
OOoooh this is really good to see. Given we started with murder and demons its easy to dismiss Samantha as scary and evil but I love how much this moment does to tell us that she may be scary but she doesn't exactly want to be.
“I..I’m sorry. D-did I scare you?” She asked, faltering. The last thing she wanted was to scare the girl away.
The girl shook her head, but Samantha knew that she was lying.
“I didn’t mean to scare you. I..I was just happy…Is it because of the whole “creepy killer clown thing” that has been going on out there?” She asked. She was familiar with how humans thought of her and didn’t exactly appreciate it, but learned to live with it.
“Yeah…maybe. It’s just..clowns seem so scary…like they’re going to eat you alive…or something.”
Well I love this little interaction here. You can see Samantha really trying quite hard to not come as too scary to the poor girl there and then do her best to try and comfort the girl. Its a rare wholesome moment to find in stories of this nature.
“Well, I don’t know about other clowns, but I won’t eat you alive. I promise.” Samantha said.
The girl giggled, causing Samantha to almost smile again. Then, she stopped herself, remembering what happened a moment ago.
“My name is Samantha. What’s yours?” She asked.
The girl put a finger to her face as if in deep thought.
Finally, she spoke.
“My name is Gina.” The girl said.
Well this is going really well here. I am very surprised to see this interaction end up being handled quite this well. It definitely creates a wonderful little mood though and I already love the dialogue so far.
Gina. How funny. Her Mom’s name was Giovanna. Similar names.
“Gina. That’s a lovely name, for a lovely girl.” Samantha beamed.
“Thank you..” Gina said shyly, fidgeting.
“Say, what are you doing out here, with no shoes?” Samantha asked
playfully. Really, she had never seen a shoeless child before!
“Oh! I was supposed to go to bed, to take a nap, but I didn’t want to, so I ran out here. My house is over there.” Gina said, pointing far off into the meadow, to where her house might have been. It was somewhere behind the trees, perhaps.
OOooh well that's an interesting one. A child that small running out of bed and just out into the open where she could stumble upon demons suggests the parents there aren't the greatest in the world.
“Why didn’t you want to go to bed?” Samantha asked.
“Because going to sleep is boring! I don’t like going to sleep! I want to play!” She declared.
Samantha chuckled at how serious the three year old seemed to be. Gina noticed this and started pouting.
“Hey! Not funny! This is very serious! It’s the most important thing in the world! It’s this important!” Gina spread her arms out to show how important it was. Samantha bit on her lip to stop the laughter. The kid truly was something else!
Aww this definitely is hitting the right notes of adorable and I can very much relate to Samantha on being unable to stop smiling at quite how adorable it happens to be here. Gina really is being far too cute here.
“Why are you out here?” Gina asked.
“Eh, I needed to get away from my family. I needed to relax.”
Gina nodded as if she understood. Maybe she did understand, who knew?
Samantha found a glistening (it seemed like it was glistening) pink rose in the meadow and she plucked it out. Then, she picked a daisy and at last, she picked a periwinkle.
Hmm well I have a feeling Gina does at least on some level manage to relate to what Samantha said here. Her presence her at this time of night really can only be explained that way.
“So? Which one?” Samantha asked, offering her the flowers.
“Those are for me?” Gina asked, blue eyes widening.
Samantha nodded.
“Why?”
“Because it’s a nice thing to do.” Samantha said. She..she felt like giving her flowers. Maybe because…maybe because she…she loved Gina…who wouldn’t? She was just…precious.
She was what she wanted to be when she was her age.
Well this is lovely. Samantha getting to treat Gina here to be as carefree as she deserves to be while making amends for her own life where it seems with the struggles she had with her parents she didn't end up getting a chance.
Happy and carefree.
“I have to pick one? But…they’re all so pretty!”
“Tell you what. We could meet out here every day and I could give you flowers.”
“What if my Mommy gets upset?”
“Tell her it’s from a friend. You wouldn’t be lying.”
“I have to pick one flower?”
“Yes.”
“The other flowers won’t be sad?”
“No, because they’ll know that you’ll come back for them.”
Ahhh this conversation is just too precious to be true here. You're really tapping into the adorableness of a three year old very effectively here and its nearly impossible not to just have a constant smile on one's face.
“Okay..I choose…”
Gina paused to think.
“This one.” She pointed dramatically to the pink rose.
“Good choice.” Samantha said, giving her the flower. Of course any choice would have been a good one.
“Now, can you go to bed? For me?” Samantha asked.
The girl giggled and skipped back home, holding the flower.
Cute. Samantha thought, smiling.
Ahh well that was a beautiful little ending there. I think it build on this conversation really nicely and had a lovely little callback to the beginning of this and it wraps things up in a neat little bow quite well.
Aaaaand that's it for this one.
Overall: Overall, this is a lovely little piece here and I adored the way you've build up both of these characters. They're both very likeable and I just adore the way you bring them both to life here.
As always remember to take what you think was helpful and forget the rest.
Stay Safe
