The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is one of the best books I've read. I don't say that lightly.

It all starts in a post apocolyptic world where food is scarce. As a result, a boy and a girl from each "district" between the ages of 12 and 18 must go to the hunger games. In the hunger games, there is a fight to the death battle, so only one person is left alive.

When Katniss's little sister is chosen, she decides to compete in her sister's place. Katniss and the boy that was chosen are on their way to the games when he reveals...he is in love with her. However, remember that there can only be one survivor of the hunger games.

It's a really good book, and I'm eager for the sequal.

I totally agree! I mean, before reading the Hunger Games trilogy, I was sort of scoff-ish about it and under the assumption that it was another mushy romance thingy like Twilight. Well, I'm glad I was proved wrong, because it totally wasn't. There was SO much more than that to it. And it's one of my favourites, too. :)

On to your book review! You've done a good job, overall, except that you spelt "sequel" wrong. And You forgot to add " they" after "however" when you wrote " However, remember that there can only be one survivor of the hunger games." :)

keep it up!

I love the idea and all but for some reason the book did nothing for me.

Katniss seemed to lack any character. She was so boring to me! I don't want to offend the author because she has done a good job but I just got bored of the book! And it is one that has everything I love in a book...I don't know something about it ticked me off.

:D

This is probably a little late, since all of these posts seem to be from a few years ago, from before catching fire came out, but the ending of CF was incredible! i mean, WORST CLIFF HANGER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 and i mean that as in the best cliff hanger ever. mockingjay was also completely insane! best series ever! i exaggerate, but really, they are very excellent. i am sorry. i just wanted someone to know how i feel. thanks for patience, if anyone ever reads this, because i found this post in an obscure, like 42nd page of my search for HGames, but i am with all you fans out there!

September 1st... so close...

Ok, here's my plan for reading Catching Fire: since it comes out on a Tuesday and my week is too busy for me to really sit down and read it, I'm going to wait until Friday night and read it in one sitting!

I can't wait!!!

xD My journalism teacher has this on display in his window, and since I can never get this book at the library, I'm thinking of asking of borrowing it. Why won't my school library open, dangit! Stock those new books so I can read!

Yup. It's out. It wasn't supposed to be out - according to waterstones.com, anyway - until the 7th September. But I went in yesterday with my fellow bookworm friend and it was there, on the shelf. :o :o :o !!! Unfortunately, I got very distracted by The Time Traveler's Wife (we saw the film yesterday as well) which is also very good, by the way, so I didn't finish it until a couple of hours ago. But still amazing! Catching Fire is quite different to The Hunger Games, but from about halfway through it has the same I-cannot-put-this-book-down-oh-dear-lord-what-can-POSSIBLY-happen-next??? quality of the first one. Woohoo Suzanne Collins for writing such a great sequel!

The second one's out here, in England? Why do I never keep track of these things? *rushes off to Google*

Haha! *laughs manically*

It's not September but for some reason I have the second book and OMG... I got the second one in England and read it in one day in the car- and I never read in the car. Completely hooked. And the second one.... eeeh!

Simply, I recommend them to anyone. There's action and sorta sci-fi and romance and a very good portrait of humans in there. So good.

This is the best book I've ever read, hands down. It made me cry for the first time in 5 years.

I love this book. It's one of the best I have read in a long time. The plot is completely original, the characters are unique, and it's just an all-around great book. However, I absolutely hated the ending. I was literally crying after I finished the book, because the ending was so horrible. I found out a few days later that there would be a sequel, and that made me a little less angry.

I have been waiting to read this book for ages! And now the sequel's out so I have to read that one first before I read the other one! *starts feeling the pressure and hyperventilates* I hope it's really as good as you all say it is.

I loved it. My friends read it (even though she doesn't usually read these types of books) and recommended I read it. It's a good read and I found it quite original, which is something you don't always find in new books because so many ideas are already out there. ^_^ Good stuff. I actually bought it and I'm waiting for the sequel to come out. (but I'll be in Quebec o.O! I'll get my sister to buy it for me)

^_^ Keek!

I read this book a couple of months ago but I enjoyed it very much, but the ending pissed me off, "To be continued!" Ended too quick for me. Yeah I thought maybe I would be able to read the next book but then I figured out it wouldn't come until this fall! So damn, now I have to wait, but I cannot stop thinking about the parts at the Hunger Games, it was so exciting and chilling! Great book for sure.

Phantomofthebasket wrote a review Review · Jun 26, 2009

Well, when I picked it up at the library, it sounded interesting so I got it.
It was interesting, no doubt about that, and a good read. I just didn't think it was amazing. Knowing me, I'll probably get the next book (and by get, I mean from the library), however, I wouldn't go out and buy it.

it had some amazing parts. The ending was most definitely my favorite when they both threatened to swallow those poisonous berries...

Hunger Games was awesome! I admit there were parts where I wanted to slap Katniss, but the story overall was great. It was written in present tense which is a little weird if you're not used to it like me. I was so mad when I found out Catching Fire doesn't come out until September and I'm very, very, very jealous of those lucky people that managed to snag the ARCs (Advance Reading Copies) for it. :D

The Hunger Games is SO one of the best books I've ever read! After reading it, I could not pick up another book because I couldn't stop thinking about it. When I saw the words "to be continued..." I almost screamed because I was so happy. Unfortunently, most of my freinds thought it sounded weird when I told them about this book ("OMG! OMG! YOU HAVE GOT TO READ THIS BOOK! IT WAS SOOOOO AMAZING!!!!") No wonder they thought it was weird with me bouncing around them going compleatly out of my mind. Nonetheless, I loved it and that's what matters.

I haven't read this yet, but I'm a huge fan of Collin's other series, The Underland Chronicles. I'd suggest you read them as well; they're really good.

*gasps*

Just finished this book. Loved it. Stayed up until 1 to finish it, even though I had church the next morning. Literally yelped when it ended. "Noooo, Suzanne Collins! You cannot DO this to me!"

Loved it. Loveditloveditlovedit. It's up there with my top ten favorite books now - which is saying something.

I just finished it last night after a good two-day read. Lol. It is fantastic, and like Thunder, I don't say that about a lot of books. It keeps you guessing, and it's impossible to put it down. Next September needs to get here.... now.... lol. I need the sequel.
