I'll never call myself a poet,
that title I can forfeit,
because to define is to limit,
and that's something I'll never permit.
I won't call my work poetry,
I won't put myself in any category,
for what I write is simply words,
that I arrange into something absurd.
I write but that doesn't make me a writer,
I am more than a definition on a flyer,
I've never been good at essays,
my thoughts are my own,
I don't desire their praise.
That goes for everything,
school, career, and even love,
don't let the world define you,
so go on now,
show them what you're made of.

Oh my gosh wow I absolutely love this. The ending brings such positivity and self growth while adding a fable in there of defining oneself. I just as well agree on not fitting into any category. I'm all over the place, and my writing takes whatever form my distorted brain shouts at the time. I feel once we alter our words to fit a certain form, censorship comes into play of our emotions. Let go of what is, let it flow on paper naturally raw and real. I think this has become a new favorite of mine.

Review! (Also, sorry I suck at these.)
I clicked this because of the title. I didn't know what it was going to be about. I read it, now I realize that Untitled is a name that actually really fits this. You write how you can't call yourself a poet or a writer, you put yourself under nothing. That really hit me. You go on saying that you are more than a definition on a flyer and that your thoughts are your own, this really helps the reader visualize your thoughts. It is also very relatable to many who read the masterpiece. You remind the reader that you can't let the world shape you, you make them realize they should not let others make decisions on what they do. Good job.

Hello, I shall proceed to leave a review below!

It's interesting that this poem is called "Untitled." At first I thought maybe you just hadn't titled it, but then I thought, "Maybe this has to do with the content after all." And then, of course, it does! So I think it's cool that you've used what looks like a mistake or boring title in an actually meaningful way. It ties in with what you've got to say here.
I can see where you worked in some rhyme scheme. First off, good for you for aiming for this. Sometimes it can see daunting, and that's where blank verse can seem more appealing. That being said, it seems like the rhyme scheme itself is inconsistent. In some places, it seems like you meant for every four lines to rhyme. In other areas, it looked like only two consecutive lines were meant to rhyme. And then in other places, it looked like you fell off the rhyme scheme wagon altogether. Maybe I just didn't stretch my mind enough to perceive unconventional rhymes. All in all, though, I felt like this was leaning more towards song or rap rather than what one might typically associate with "poetry." That doesn't mean it's not poetry, but again, that's the way it seemed to lean in my perception.
One thing I find myself mentioning on almost everyone's poems is rhythm and meter. As I say everywhere, I frequently have to look up the difference between them and refresh my mind on what role each plays in poetry. So maybe it's a poetic element that has been largely forgotten, overlooked, or undervalued. But I think it's pretty important, and even though I'm not perfect at it myself, I'd encourage you to work your skills in the area of rhythm and meter if you are serious about writing poetry. It's one of the main things that makes a poem really flow very naturally and have a song-like feel that sticks in the mind. If nothing else, it helps by opening the poem, creating an expectation for how the whole piece is going to sound/feel, and then it should stay consistent with that in order to flow most naturally.
With that being said, you don't *always* have to stick super hard to rhythm and meter. But in rhyming poetry especially, I'd say it's pretty important.
Moving on now, I want to say I like the themes here. You talk about poetry/poems and writing, all of which reinforce the idea you bring with the "Untitled" title. And then in the latter part of the poem, you expand that idea to apply to larger life things, i.e. school, career, etc. Maybe not everyone can relate to writing or poetry, but these other things are elements of life that many do experience, so what you've written takes the value of a niche realm and applies it to a greater realm. And by that, you have the potential to bring the meaning of this work to people who may not even be able to relate to any of your own personal hobbies, interests, etc.
Well, that's all for this review. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work!
Thank you! Haha, well, I did say I'll never call my work poetry- for I simply do not follow any patterns, I do what I think sounds right, hence I'll never call myself a poet- although I am forced to label it here, thanks again for the review!
