Speculum Prisoner

this is something I wrote when I was around..either 12 or younger. So i'm not surprised if their are some errors but hey we're all human.......right?

I made my way down the devious halls of which I wasn't familiar. I had passed each empty room after each empty room. They all seemed to echo with the same cries of forgotten attention. All of them had brief moonlight creep its way through the enormous Gothic windows that served as the West wall.

It was until I saw something reflect a brief light across my line of sight. It continually showed itself as if it were the source of light from a lighthouse on the coast illuminating the path for lost ships in a fog. This particular room at my side didn't feel as cold and bare as the others. It had a sense of some inhabitant. I walked in when I noticed a mirror in its lonely company and I saw it reflect its shimmering smile. This smile however could not have been possible for it was in the midst of night. I wasn’t sure how it could’ve done such a thing.

That when I realized this object of self conscious tension was calling to me. I decided to respect its wishes and approach it cautiously. I could almost feel the presence of another being's image trapped within the pool of reflection before I was even aware of its image. It felt strangely familiar yet so unknown. I could feel it pull me into its path. It was rather strong actually.

Once I made my way to the mirror in the dark corridor I stared straight into my own eyes and studied their depth. Although I knew and felt my lips stay in their indifferent form of any expression I saw my speculum twin's lips curl into a grimace. Its eyes began to change as well. In a sudden moment I saw the eyes morph into cold soulless stones that bit into my gaze with an icy glare. I felt myself gasp quickly as the mirror's previously unbroken surface crack into twisted lines mocking that of a spider web.

In one instant I felt cold hands grip the base of my throat and throw me against a force currently unseen. Everything took place very quickly. For a second I was very unsure of what was happening. It took me moments of realization to see a figure seeming to be me walk from the darkened corridor leaving no trace of the past events behind. I heard no sound of footsteps just the slam of a door signaling me that I was alone to wallow in my own company for some time to come. I was about to advance forward when something was restricting me.

That’s when I found my self staring at the wall opposite of me from a perspective that lay behind a clear wall with vines of faults mimicking those of spider webs.

The capacity of human beings to bore one another seems to be vastly greater than that of any other animal.
