Ode To My Significant Other

PreviousNext

I could write a book

About the love life

I never had.

And yes,

I'm young,

Naive,

Dumb.

But I still believe in true love

In that one person

That never bores you

And you never bore.

They believe in you

You believe in them more.

You don't need some perfect kiss

To show how much you love one another.

It's all that.

The One.

Your significant other.

Nick here to write a review!

At first I thought this was just going to be another short love poem. It is indeed love poetry but it is in no way sappy. It contains much deep emotion.

I was glad that this was addressed to a significant other and not to an already existing spouse. For me that would have killed it.

I liked the use of short lines in this. I usually dont, so that's something. I think it worked here for the effect of brevity.

All in all I really liked this poem, which is strange because I am in no way a fan of love poems.

Keep it up!

Okay.
This was one of the BEST I've read so far!
And what I especially liked was it was so crisp and yet it had a subtlety to it which kept me enjoying it till the end!

I felt the word 'dumb' was a bit abrupt, but then it went well with the previous lines, so that's okay.

And the ending was really really good!
You've named the poem very aptly in relation to the poem, and the titles are important because they are the ones that tug somebody to click the link (atleast in my case)

The lines-

That never bores you

And you never bore.

They believe in you

You believe in them more

- were my favourites. Just one thing, I think it should have been 'Who never bores you' instead of 'That never bores you' since you're talking about a person.

I love your writing style and look forward to more from you!

Thank you sooo much! I will look at the mistake you mentioned. Maybe you're right :)

You're welcome...but honestly! Amazing poetry!

Hello sbf1102!

This is beautiful! At first I thought that it was a letter to the character's husband (or wife, I make that mistake a lot.) But this is way way way better! It's how you imagine true love, how it's portrayed in stories. The part about never being bored or never boring them, that would be wonderful, but I'm pretty sure that eventually you'd run out of things to talk about though XD. But if it were to happen, it would be wonderful.

P.S. Welcome to Young Writers Society! I don't mind questions.

haha thanks so much! :) <3 It's my first attempt at a love poem so I hope I did well!

Aww <3 This is so sweet.

FYI, it totally (is there a way to say totally without sounding like a mainstream teenage girl?) didn't come across as if you were in love. It sounded to me like you're waiting for The One and I reckon that's what you wanted to get across.

It flows great and I have no nitpicks at all.

Random though: Do you ever wonder what you're future husband is doing right now? I'm a big believer in Ten's (if you've heard of Doctor Who) explanation that time is a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff and right now at some point in time I am married, working, travelling, etc. So I often wonder what myself and my future family are doing.

Okay weird talk over. Nice job with your poem. :D

Aww thanks so much!

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into… the Twilight Zone.
