Gray Days

You're supposed to life me up, comfort me, push me towards the sky.
Instead you shove me down, scoff, and abandon my side.

The bond between, the love between, rings false and cold.
But never have I ever stood up to you, to ever be so bold.

You claim you wish me well when you leave me lying in the mud.
You said we were like sisters- thicker than water, closer than blood.

But when you betrayed, mocked, and hurt me, I never cried- never blamed you, and never left you to your ways.
Instead I hugged you, praised you, and wished for my life to not fade again to gray.

I know you may scoff at my childish words and laugh your pretty voice away.
But always shall I stand here, to try and smile, and hope for some sweeter day.

Thank you, everyone for your comments! I wrote this when I was in tears over my friend's latest hurtful behavior. As you can see, I put a lot of emotion into this, and I wasn't sure if I was going to post it online or not. Thanks everyone for making me feel as though I've made the right decision to share my pain.

The simplicity of the poem touches my heart. Thank you for sharing this poem with me here on the YWS!

The bond between, the love between, rings false and cold.

I could associate very well with that line, it sent shivers down my spine. Wonderful writing, keep it up!

You have me tear-filled. More like just straight up crying from this poem because I've gone through that kind of betrayal with a friend and I did the same thing. I hugged her and I forgave her because I felt like the right thing was to try and not hold onto the past and make all of my days gray and gloomy from what was or has been. Yet, with that, she still mistreated me. I truly connected with this poem.

Your choice of words for this poem was beautiful.

You claim you wish me well when you leave me lying in the mud. You said we were like sisters- thicker than water, closer than blood.

Those lines were heart warming and touching. I felt it when you said "thicker than water, closer than blood". It shows the strong bond that you and that person had. I can't stress how much power and effect that had on me.

This is truly a work of art. Bravo!
