He says that cats don't like him
because he reminds them of their fathers
but the kitten plays fetch with him for hours,
jumps on his chest at 7am and nuzzles his beard
at night I hold the cat by its armpits and tell it
"you are not a dog."
the cat regards me like a death row prisoner
regards an electric chair.
ii
by the way, his name is Leo, but I'm not ready to tell you the cat's name yet.
Leo heats up the coffee even though it is three days old.
He says it tastes primordial, slams the door
on a July morning sticky with coagula and come
we seldom clean our apartment, the three of us
Leo, the kitten, and I. We stand on the guardrail of the Golden Gate bridge.
iii
the kitten fetches
I would even say it is uncannily good at it
supernaturally good. Leo tears the drawers out of his dressers
the clothes out of his closets, he dumps them out the window
and by noon the cat has returned every t-shirt
every pair of socks, every shred.
we sit on the roof and drink desert champagne
looking for floating mansions. Leo turns to me and says
"I think the cat may actually be a rabbit."
"a what"
"a bunny rabbit."
iv
It turns out that Leo's right but then again
I'm not sure. Suddenly I am open to the possibilty that
the cat could be a dog. Maybe it is an eagle or a subway rat
perhaps it is a mountain ridge, a lake or a river. Leo says
all of us are just curls in a river of stardust.
v
Willie Nelson nods
vi
the cat's name is Ostensibly, no
it is Willie.
vii
Leo's not a roommate, either, he is a lion in fact
all three of us are lions. We, lions
we go to the diner across the street at midnight
and plan an elaborate heist where we steal all the diamonds
to give to our fathers to give to our mothers
because Nancy's a nice lady and she
deserves the moon.

Hi,
Well I really liked your poem though it was kind of confusing at times
Good Job!
well, they can't all be reviews
This maybe the strangest poem I have ever read. But I don't read that much poetry, meaning I can't review and why I'm just leaving a simple comment.
Because I called it strange doesn't mean I don't like it, it's fasinating, confusing but lovely.
Keep Writing,
Red xoxo
thanks,
