When Happiness Left

Years passed, days flew.
And I quietly awaited,
For a special day,
For a special change.

When it came,
Thunder stormed, wind blew and trees shook.
But I still kept quiet, for I feared the change.
I feared what awaited me.

Later though, fear became a ridiculous concept.
For the change had brought happiness.
I laughed to my heart’s content.
I played hide and seek with joy.
I sang, loving each word that slipped through my mouth.

Alas, I was happy!
I slept free of nightmares, dreaming happily.
In my dream, I met a garden.
A beautiful, green lawn stretched infront of me,
Bearing wild flowers.
Each flower was different in their own way.
They left me unable to speak, astounding me by their wondrous beauty.

When the sun’s light shone on them,
They danced, they sang, they played and they laughed.
The flowers shared my mood.
And so we quickly became friends.

Suddenly, a storm began.
Much like the last one, but this time it was much more fierce.
I ran to my friends, to protect them.
But I was too late.
I screamed with pain.
I cried with sorrow.
I wept and wept.
What had I left to do?

Happiness left.
And when it did darkness swallowed me.
No light shone through, and I was lost.
Will this nightmare ever end?
