Why did they look
Why did my only friend become my book?
Maybe because I didn't speak.
No one ever got to see my peak.
I just didn't have any words.
Like my whole brain was flying away like a bird's
I knew it wouldn't get better.
But maybe for now I could hide under my sweater.
I could pretend I had the perfect life
No more memories of the knife
No more stress
No more feeling like less
But it isn't that easy.
not when I always felt queasy
So, I decided to protect my heart.
because it was time to be the main part.
So, I moved schools.
leaving behind all those fools
I wanted to be new.
something people couldn't chew
Now, I'm smiled at.
People actually stop for a chat.
I know almost everyone.
I did it. I finally got it done.
This is my story.
I found the glory.
that smile only friends get
My life is no longer a threat.
I am finally in control.
We did it; we are finally whole!

hi! i like this poem mostly because i can SORT of relate but also because DAMN i like the rhyming scheme and also because it's genuinely a positivity gleaming writing which idk if it makes sense,
it starts off pretty lonely, which yes, makes sense because narrator seems to be questioning HOW it became so that his friends became his books —> and tbh this is like A tier way to spend time as a person with like little to no friends so im supposing that this is what the lines "Why did they look
Why did my only friend become my book?" mean.
the other two lines of the same stanza, "Maybe because I didn't speak.
No one ever got to see my peak." is something i can probably relate to which makes it nice to see, holy representation, but anyway this kind of gives off a sense of regret? and i like the narrator answering their own question (about how their only friend became a book) by these two lines because honestly very relatable with the "maybe" too.
the two lines of the 2nd stanza is a bit confusing though, because narrator states;
"I just didn't have any words.
Like my whole brain was flying away like a bird's"
but i think it might be a small mistake in the grammar? if narrator means to say, their brain flies away like a bird, then i suppose that's make sense but here it' written "bird's" which could mean the narrator's brain flies away like a bird's brain, which is now obviously confusing HAHHA but yeah it's alright.
The rest of the poem gives me a very positive flow, im sorry if it's not supposed to be that way i can smell the hints of loneliness in this, but anyway poetry analyses mostly are projections (this is just for me pls dont mind)
overall, i really like the rhyming scheme, i dont want to really correct anything because, once again, no universally correct way to write poetry, but i think the grammar COULD be a bit misleading so yeah, i enjoyed reading this, so keep writing and good day!
Hi thank you so much for the detailed review.

With your comment on the "birds" I just read back through and realise that i did make it sound like she had a bird's brain hahaha, so thank you for letting me know.
I am glad you liked the book line and can relate to it, I think sadly we all can relate it which honestly makes me want to make more poems to raise more awareness.
It was supposed to start of lonely and take on a positive vibe I'm glad you picked that up! I was worried it was vague but happy you noticed!!!!11
Thank you so much
This poem impressed me with its theme: the transition from isolation to acquiring confidence and friendships.
From the very first lines, the reader learns about the isolation of the character who sees a book as his "only friend." I also enjoyed how the poem became increasingly hopeful with each step of the journey described in it and with each time the character mentioned his moving to a new school.
The transition from "hiding under my sweater" to "in control" was quite efficient as it reflected a significant change in the character. The ending of the poem sounded triumphant with such phrases as "We did it; we are finally whole!" It creates an impression that the speaker is both proud of his friends and feels confident enough about himself.
Some rhymes in the poem need improvement. Some of them were somewhat strained, and the idea was not communicated efficiently (for example, "new" and "chew"). You can try changing some wording or make some lines unrhymed for a more natural reading.
The poem demonstrates quite a consistent emotional transformation: loneliness, desire to escape, and finally, acquire a new start in life. Its ending is quite hopeful which makes the journey of the speaker quite rewarding.
The poem is also quite interesting with its level of determination: the speaker does not want to be trapped anymore and takes the control of his life.
I hope you post more works soon!
Hi thank you so much for reading this poem.
)
I get what you are saying about the wording, I was thinking of having some unrhymed, but I love the feeling of poems being rhymed all through maybe it's just but it makes them feel more real to me.
I am going to write some more poems soon. maybe similar theme or something new?!
Thank you for the review and i can't wait to here more from you!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is actually really cool to me as someone who can't think of rhymes to save his life. Anyway, I'm gonna talk about some lines I liked & then give my overall review.
This line stood out to me so much because it's honestly such a good way of putting it, it feels relatable even as someone who hasn't fully been in that situation.
The first thing I have to say about this is REAL but I also like it when poets use birds in their poetry to symbolize something
I think this is a perfect way to end the poem, especially with the word 'finally' it actually feels like the end.
Anyway, my overall review. I think this is a great poem. It's got upfront meaning, which I think is supposed to be about finding better people for you. But I also think there are other meaning inside like maybe about accepting yourself? that's how I saw it, anyway. I think hidden meanings are great is what I'm trying to say. Something I would note is that you did repeat some words a lot at the start of lines, like 'no' and 'so' which is fine, but if you want it to feel more mixed I'd suggest changing up some of those starting words. overall a great poem, keep writing!
Hi thank you so much for the response and review of the poem!!!!!!!!!
Those are actually some of my fav lines as well ha-ha, I wrote the book one because sometimes you can get this feeling that maybe your only friend. really is your book.
The birds one I felt the same way as you i wanted to add something real into it.
and the finally whole was something I read from a book about how when he finally got through all his stuff he felt whole for once in his whole life!
I will look back over your comment on the repeated words thanks for the amazing review !!!!!!!!!!! ;0
