Our Selves

In that time,
So short yet long
Ago, we were free
To be ourselves,
Whoever we wanted
To be

Now, a mask is put on
We are what they say,
Our true selves look gone,
Lost in the sway

But if you look,
Down deep in our hearts,
You’ll find somebody ready,
Ready to start

She’ll be just a girl
He’ll be just a boy
No pretenses
No big ploy
And we’ll smile
Not to just those we know
‘Cause we can be ourselves
Nobodies’ toy

Someday we’ll go back
To who we were
We can show ourselves
To the whole wide world
When that day comes,
You will know, because
A stranger smiles, a
Smile you know

That stranger knew you
Just as a child
They know you now
‘Cause that child’s outside

She’ll be just a girl
He’ll be just a boy
No pretenses
No big ploy
And we’ll smile
Not to just those we know
‘Cause we can be ourselves
Nobody’s toy

Your friends know you now
Your family too
What they say now,
You know it’s true
That they love you,
For you being you

And when that stranger smiles,
You realize it now
That stranger smiling,
It’s really just you

She’ll be just a girl
He’ll be just a boy
No pretenses
No big ploy
And we’ll smile
Not to just those we know
‘Cause we can be ourselves

And that’s the way it goes…

This sounded a lot older than what a 13 year old would write...and that's a compliment.

Quite impressive, really. I used to be huge into lyrics and all, but all I can say now is that you should keep writing these.
