What is victory? Some people will tell you that victory is winning the race, beating a record, coming out on top, or other achievements…such as beating alcoholism. These examples are all only part of the truth because victory is more than a concrete thing; it is a feeling, an emotion even.
You may ask “How is this?” and when it simply is. Victory is the feeling you get when you overcome the odds, surpass the obstacles, and the best yet, doing something you thought you never had the ability to do, or proving someone wrong when they say “No you can’t, yeah right, in your dreams maybe,” or other such phrases meant to tear you down.
The sense of pride and joy when you obtain a new high score, beat a personal record, or even outgrow the footsteps of an older sibling? That is victor. The smile you crack when someone congratulates you, or compliments you? That is victory.
American colonists lived under “a tyrant one-thousand miles away” for over a century. They felt their victory in 1783, having declared their independence seven years before. Black slaves felt a chainless victory in December of 1865. Women in America felt victorious leaving the voting halls after they cast their first ballot in in the early nineteen-hundreds. In more recent times Pistorious overcame the obstacle of artificial limbs and came to be a runner in the 2012 Olympic Games.
Victory isn’t winning a ball game 21 to 7, forcing your opponent to tap out, or even surviving an illness. Victory is a feeling, an emotion. Everything and anything else, is a triumph.

Wow, okay, this was great. I never really actually thought of the definition of victory, but after reading this I can totally agree with it.

I caught only one mistake and that was that that you said "Victor" when I think you meant victory. Other than that, great job, this was a very nice essay. If you don't get a good grade on this, well, that would be really weird, because this is great!

This was a very insightful essay. I never thought of victory that way, but now when I think of it, it only makes perfect sense. Any of my English teachers I've had over the years would tell you that this was well-organized and thought-out. I also admired how you incorporated certain historical events into this piece. It's true that that amputee from the Olympics, even though he didn't win, he paved the road for others to follow in his footsteps and not be afraid of overcoming the odds that are placed against them. And women's suffrage. It sad that there are still quite a few countries where women do not have equal rights, but that feeling that you get of an accomplishment, it's rapturous.
In terms of critique, I only spotted one error.
