Summary from before - Tino, Lukas's boyfriend, goes missing. Lukas doesn't know that Tino's being abused by his new boyfriend. Lukas had previously given information to the police, but when no results turn up, he realizes the address he submitted was wrong. Every minute he wastes lowers Tino's rate of survival.
--
Lukas forgot searching for Tino himself for a moment before arriving at the police station, explaining that the address he’d given was wrong and he didn’t find out until now. He felt no better when the chief of police explained that they’d continue to work on the case with the scanty amount of information available. They’d told him that on his phone, he’d receive texts with updates on the case.
Rain dripped down onto his black umbrella as he walked back, falling off the lining onto the sidewalk. The clouds were a hazy iron gray that were only a few shades lighter than the pavement. The pattering of the raindrops calmed Lukas, and he inhaled the fresh air. He had chosen a different route that wouldn’t remind him of Tino’s face - The posters were to be avoided at all costs.
He arrived at his house in no time, pulling open the dry door handle. Lukas put the umbrella in its holder, and glanced to the right. The photo of Tino and him together at the beach was taken, and so was the nail.
A section of the wall that it lay on was cruelly hacked off, the remnants still on the ground. Lukas scanned the rest of what he could see - All the lights had been shut off, but everything else in the house was in their normal place.
Why did the criminal want him to know?
The Norwegian stared at the remnants, calculating them. The drywall had fallen in dusty splinters, spelling out letters and a symbol on the floor: “FIND ”
Lukas’s breath hitched, and his heart thrummed frantically under his chest. He slipped off his wet shoes and followed the direction of the arrow, which lead to the spiral staircase not too far off. Gripping the wooden railing, he climbed upward in silence with keen eyes and ears.
--
Has Tino been here?
Did he take the picture to have something to remember us by?
Why did he damage our home?
--
At the top of the stairwell were more fragments of the wall, but they had been jumbled by an unknown force. Bending down, Lukas rearranged a few lines to form the words “THE CAM”
The ‘cam’? Did Tino, or whomever, mean the camera?
Lukas gulped, and went downstairs for the small, loaded, handheld pistol he had which was only able to fit three bullets in it. After checking behind him twice, he climbed up the stairs again. He recalled the camera was in Tino’s room, which Lukas had left untouched ever since. The camera was sitting on Tino’s fluffy throw pillow with a sequin paisley embroidered on it. Lukas bent down, picked it up, and pressed the black on button.
--
Tino adjusts the camera, propping it up on a stack of books. “Day one of not being with you. I hope you won’t have to see this, ever, but this is just in case something happens.”
He smiles at the camera, brushing a strand of his hair away. Comfortably, Tino reclines on a gray sectional, hugging a pillow. The Fin wears his expression like nothing happened a few nights before, where he had been screaming, crying, and praying for a change. Tino wanted to move on to someone newer, however, but Lukas’s presence seemingly wouldn’t let him.
“Ber isn’t home right now, and that’s time I have to record…”
--
Lukas watches attentively as Tino documents all of his days living with his new boyfriend - They’ve done all the things Lukas did with Tino. Shopping. Road trips to the countryside. Movies. Late-night confessions. Why is it all the same?
On some days, Tino chooses not to record, but he explains in the videos that he’s so busy having fun he can’t remember or make time for it. Lukas notices, however, the expression in his videos is changing. The smile is waning, like the moon hanging in the sky. Tino’s eyes have lost their jubilant radiance after a month and a half.
Anxiously, Lukas clicks on the next video, after another week-long hiatus.
--
“Lukas, I found something in his room.”
--
No greeting. No smile.
--
“Empty beer bottles. Three of them, and they’re all pretty large. He’s been acting off lately...What’s going on?”
Tino shifts uncomfortably on the sofa, averting his gaze from the camera. “Ber doesn’t do things with me anymore. He just tells me what to do. He doesn’t say he loves me. He doesn’t hold my hand.”
“Lukas, why am I still talking to you? You did this to me in the end. Why do they always leave me?”
His voice cracks, and tears threaten to spill over his brilliant blue doe eyes. “I’ve done something so, so, wrong.”
--
It’s the alcohol, Tino.
It wasn’t you.
It isn’t you.
My biggest mistake was leaving you.
Please, come back to me.
--
Tino’s crouched down in dim light of what appears to be the closet, with clothes strewn on the ground in a mess. He fixes the camera, attempting a halfhearted smile.
“Lukas, I love you,” he says, blowing a kiss into the camera.
Footsteps, loud and thundering, clamber in the distance. Tino trembles, his eyes glazing over for a quick moment.
“Oh God, he’s coming!” Tino gasps, scrambling to the camera before hastily turning it off. His expression is, at the end of the video, paralyzed in a fear.

Hey manilla! Happy RevMo! I'm swinging by for a review today!
I haven't read the previous chapter of this, so I do apologise if this interferes with my review in any way. Regardless, I shall try my best to help!
I have to wonder- how does somebody get the wrong address for a police station? I mean, I suppose it depends on the source he got it from. If he was looking through like, the yellow books or something, or if somebody told him and was intentionally misleading him? I just thought I'd bring that up.
I love your descriptions? They're very dreary and melancholic and match the setting of the story very well so far.
This is pretty silly so ignore it if you want to- but usually when it rains it's pretty humid? So maybe mention something about that when he takes a breath in?
This feels...almost like you're trying to just skip through this part without really caring about how it sounds?? That's not the right way to describe it, but it feels like your glazing over the amount of time it actually would have taken to get back. I think you could have pulled this off in a way that made it seem like Lukas felt like no time had passed on the trek back to his house, rather than throwing it in like this.
(I do also want to question if it's raining- why is the door handle dry? Is there a porch? Am I misreading this as the outside door handle? And even if there is/isn't, why is it important to note that the door handle is dry? I'd be more interested in whether it's cold, like if it's metal, or something else.)
If the letters at the top of the stairwell were jumbled up, how does Lukas know for sure that it does spell out "The Cam"?
A hiatus from Tino's end or Lukas'?
I got a little confused here? Was this the same video clip or was this two separate ones? Did thhe camera shut off after he said "Lukas, I found something in his room." which meant he wouldn't get to finish his sentence? Or did he just...decide not to elaborate?
I think it could have been clarified- while the beginning summary was very helpful! I think I would have liked clarification whose boyfriend Tino is being abused by? Because at first I thought it was Lukas', but I'm getting the impression it's Tino's? I'm,, not really sure, there was a little confusion in the way you say "Tino, Lukas' boyfriend" when they appear to have broken up? Again, this probably would have been cleared up if I had just read the previous chapter, so you don't really have to worry about this I would imagine!
I also think that the camera segments/video clips could have been woven into the actual narration? Rather then cutting them all off like that. I know, you have to be vague in mystery's and stuff, but I'm not sure I understand what's going on in some of those segments? I don't know, I think I would have liked to have seen it woven in, with Lukas' thought process as he watched each one instead?
All right! I think that's all I have for you today! Regardless of my critiques, I did really enjoy this! I loved the tone and the atmosphere of it, so great job with that!
I hope you're having a wonderful day!
Thanks for such a detailed review!
Hey, manilla! I thought I'd drop by for a quick review on this chapter today.
And thanks for the chapter summary, it really helps.
I really just couldn't figure out what this sentence meant. I feel like you have a word missing somewhere, but I'm not sure where.
I really liked this paragraph because of how you used the weather and the setting to show Lukas' thoughts and emotions, how he specifically takes a different route home because of what's going on. It really helped ground me in the story.
This felt like a non-sequitur. I have no idea who the criminal is he's talking about, or why his immediate assumption based on what had happened is that someone is trying to send him a message about something. I was able to figure it out after reading on, but that part was just clunky.
I was also confused by the parts in bold. I'm guessing they're supposed to be Lukas' thoughts, but why not just have them in the text in italics the normal way?
The other main thing I'm confused about is the timeline of Tino going missing. It seems like he and Lukas broke up a while ago, and then he's been with his new boyfriend, and only after a while of being with him does he go missing. So how does Lukas know he's missing? Are they still in contact? Why did they break up? It's a little odd because usually breakups end with bad feelings all around, but it seems like they're still on good terms, so I'm really wondering what drove this to happen. I'm also curious to know how he got in and was able to leave the camera. Sorry if some of this was covered in the previous chapter and i just don't know about it.
I really like how you did the last video entry. His expression and the overall atmosphere is chilling, as well as that final image you end on. It's a really good hook to read on.
And that's all I've got! Good luck with this story, and keep writing!
Thanks for the review!
The choice of bold was because I used italics for Tino's POV.
You're welcome! And hm, I still think the bold is too odd to really work. I think you could get away with having both Lukas' thoughts and Tino's parts be in italics, because it's easy to distinguish the two, except for the part that's just Lukas' thoughts, and if you added a marker like "Lukas pleaded" or something to the end of one of the lines, that would clear it up.
