God is Love

I used to think
this life
I lived was enough.

My claim to be
blameless
was surely a bluff.

Raised by Christians,
this faith
I took for granted.

As a child
salvation,
the seed, was planted.

But in my heart
this seed
stayed beneath the ground

In the darkness
no water,
no sunlight around.

Sixteen years old,
my life
had little meaning

Until the day
my heart
went into cleaning.

I went to church
with friends
on a Wednesday night.

In teenagers
this passion
for God would ignite.

This love for God,
never
had I seen so strong

In kids my age.
This love
was a beautiful song.

After that day
my life
had begun a change

On a new path
for God
other friends thought strange.

I read God’s word
at first
in obligation

But soon I found
the word
to be contagious.

A love for God
gave life
to the plant from seed

To Jesus Christ,
your grace
and love I need.

Now I enter
a new
season of my life.

It’s time to face
the world
in all its strife.

A world that needs
Jesus.
So desperately lost,

These people don’t
realize
that sin had a cost.

Please, God help me
reach them
and show them your love.

Reach out from the
Heavens;
reach out from above.

Give me courage
and strength,
for my strength diminished.

Help me be bold
for you
until life is finished.

Give me your words
to speak,
your ears to listen

To show the lost
Jesus,
the one they’re missing.

I used to think
this life
I lived was enough.

But now I see
the life
I can live in love.

“Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.” -1 John 4:11-12

So, the rhyming kind of style this was written in it might not be my favorite, and your language was more upfront than a lot of the stuff I like to read...but having said that, I do absolutely adore the message that you have in this poem, and the truth that you've written about, as well as the verse you concluded it with. I definitely like how you gave the reader a glimpse into your journey in discovering who God really is. Your honesty and openness was refreshing :)

Thanks for your review! :D I was trying to make each stanza 3 lines, but I agree it is confusing. I'm going to change it to make it easier to read.

Beautiful! :-) and Amen!
I'm not sure I like the actual structure of the poem as it made it a big tricky to read. Can't the lines just be together...is there a reason they're like that?
Also the last line seems a bit anti-climatic after the rest of the poem.

Very nice though - I really like it!

More than anything she wanted the world to be uncomplicated, for right and wrong to be as easily divided as the black and white sections of an Oreo. But the world was not a cookie.
