We were young when we met
innocent,
naïve
We knew nothing of pain,
of sorrow,
or grief
Our world was a playground
full of life
and joy
We used to play with dolls,
stuffed animals,
and toys
We were separated
in sixth grade
by teams
What then we thought tragic
is trivial
it seems
We were young when you got sick
eleven,
nearly twelve
They told me what happened
“brain tumor”
“cancer”
Those words I barely heard
I collapsed
I cried
I pulled out a smile,
said I was fine
but I lied
I wanted to be there
for you
always
But I just couldn’t
I was weak
I’m sorry
The world was once a playground
with swing sets
and slides
That day the playground was destroyed
The life I knew
was pushed aside
I screamed and cried out to God
Why my best friend?
Why her?
We were young the day you died
only sixteen
Too young
Five years – the battle was lost
You fought hard
but death won
I found out on MySpace
and blamed cancer
for its theft
My one relief was knowing
all your pain
had left
The Savior’s arms were there
wide open
for you
Still I trembled and cried
for the life
never pursued
This life I cannot fathom
Give me peace
Oh God
We are young now, as you
will always be
sixteen
For five years this burden
I struggled
to carry
Finally I lay it down
in God’s hands
for I am weary
I tried to run from God
I stumbled
to the ground
He picked me up and carried me
through the storm
in His arms
He forgave my rebellion,
misplaced blame,
and hurtful shove
I give praise to the Savior
who filled me up
with love
Now I take the pain I felt
and pour out
compassion
I open up my heart
to a world
full of ashes
For victims of cancer
I wish to help
as best I can
The way I never did
for you
my dearest friend
Oh Lord hear my prayer:
Pour out your love
through me
Help me be a light that shines
on you
for all the world to see

I loved it, even though I've converted to agnosticism. It was an emotional raw poem and that's probably why it was so good. I didn't find anything wrong with it, so with that aspect in mind, it would be wrong of me to review it. Great job, luv2write!
P.S. You sound like a good Christian.
Thanks for the reviews everyone
I appreciate your input
hey this is dogs,
I really like your poem!!! i thought that it was great and it flows well, i understood it perfectly and i just liked it all around
Except that you lost my intrest because it just kept on going on and on. you might want to shorten it a bit. but if you like it that long, totally ignore me.
So keep up the good work and keep working!!!

I really like all the emotion in this. I also like how you go back to the swings in this. It just makes it so much better.
Hi, dear. I really loved your poem so well. It's quite been long since i read a nice poem like this and i will love to continue reading such because it gives you an idea of the pain that people have to go through in life. But hey, God has poured out his love on us to turn our pains and sorrows into joy and compassion for every soul we met in life and this was just what your poem portrayed. I didn't find much errors as i was overshadowed with the emotion of the poem. But you must always remember to write your I's in capital letters. Wish you all the best in life. Just PM me on any of your post. Thank you, Stay strong.
