A happier life

PreviousNext

I'm currently a sophomore in high school and I've come to the realization that I've never had a best friend or actual friends. This realization got me thinking deeply about why I feel this way.

I don't have anyone that I can tell my thoughts, feelings, or problems to; yet I always listen to everyone else's thoughts, feelings, or problems. This is because I don't have friends that are sincere and I don't have friends that keep matters private. I don't share any true interests with my "friends" and that is because they don't really know me. They don't know my interests at all and never ask what they are.

The group I did consider my friends never stood by my side. What I mean is, I'm always the one to find another partner because they all pair up with each other. When working on an assignment together in school, my choice was always wrong compared to someone else's. Lastly, some members of group would put me down as a joke, making the whole group laugh with them.

I felt like crying almost all the time I was around them, then I realize I have myself. I am better off alone, making myself happy, than feeling like an outcast with a group of people. Why did I want a best friend or friends when I can do what I want on my own? Why should I associate with people who negatively put others down when I can positively help others up? Why search for happiness from other people than search for happiness from myself? How do I get away from people I thought were my friends? What is a friend? Finding time for yourself while making yourself happy simply answers all these questions.

By putting myself first in a in-excessive manor I now feel pure happiness. I am happy because I enjoy doing what I want and not feeling sad by doing it. I can live a positive life and not be stressed with negativity. I truly have only myself to rely on and therefore never be let down. Yes, it is nice to laugh with others and create memories; but now they are memories that I want to create with people that honestly want to create them with me.

If currently you have a best friend or friends, ask yourself if you genuinely feel comfortable being yourself around them. If so you are lucky because that is a relationship, in society today, that is immensely hard to find. And if not, you should think about how you want to feel and if you are truly happy being surrounding by that certain person or group.

I know how you feel about not being comfortable around others and feeling like a third wheel. When I was younger, I had a group of friends that all seemed to like each other more(i'm so much closer to them now. We've grown up, and a few people have moved away). Just don't give up on finding a best friend. There's somebody out there for you.

Review

First off. Welcome to YWS. I hope that you enjoy your writing experience on this site. Now for the review. I liked how you did an essay about friendship and how you feel when they do stuff like that to you. I totally understand what you mean. People that I thought were my friends did exactly the same stuff. I'm glad to hear that somebody else has gone through the same problems that I have. Now I did notice one or two errors, but nothing that is extreme. First of:

"And if not, you should think about how you want to feel and if you are truly happy being surrounding by that certain person or group." this sentence has a wording error right of the bat. You should defiantly not use the word "surrounding" in this sentence. It makes no sense. Instead you should replace it with "surrounded" and also put "with" before "being", because it just goes along with the sentence so much better. You should also add a comma between "feel" and "and". Anyway. So instead you should write: "And if not, you should think about how you want to feel(,) and if you are truly happy (with) being (surrounded) by that certain person or group." By doing that it just makes the sentence just make so much more sense. Another one that I found was also close to the end of the essay:

"If so you are lucky because that is a relationship, in society today, that is immensely hard to find." here there is just a tiny little tweak that needs fixing. You need to add a comma after "if so". Because usually when we say this we naturally pause, so we need to add a comma there. Also, I think that you should add a comma after "lucky" as well. And then you should remove the comma after "relationship". So the ending result should be, "If so(,) you are lucky, because that is a relationship in society today that is immensely hard to find." Other than that, the essay is fine. Keep writing and never stop. You have a real keen eye for detail. :)

Thank you so much for helping my writing and reading my writing!!

Your so welcome. I really do love your writing style. :)
