Can Charity be an Investment?

Giving to charity is one of the ultimate acts of compassion an individual can do. To give ones hard earned money to willingly support a good cause is a sign of selflessness and a signal of a person who cares about the well-being of others.

But what if charity wasn't just supporting those in need, but also investing in your long-term future as well? What if charity became a symbiotic relationship between both parties? Is that even possible? Yes. Yes, it is.

The answer is called Microlending. Microlending is a system where single individuals can invest small sums of cash to enterprising individuals who need those small amounts to try to start a thriving business. With that cash in hand, they can stimulate the economy, provide for the family, and make their dreams come true. Eventually, you receive that money back, plus interest.

Microlending is effective because of the power of the US dollar in developing countries. Amounts of cash that seem inconsequential to us, let's say 50 dollars, can have a major impact on someone trying to start a small business overseas.

Instead of supporting a system which requires constant donations to even sustains its beneficiaries, what if you could help foster a business and possibly a community for the long term? By giving the recipients the autonomy to sustain themselves rather than make them depending on the grace of others will grant them a sense of pride, accomplishment, and purpose.

Once the business had been set up and is thriving, then you, the investor, see the returns. Not only do you get your money back, but you receive a little bit on top of that, which then can be turned around to invest in other up and coming businesses.

Microlending also has a bigger impact on the national and global level. Fostering a strong middle class in other countries can lead to a more stable economy and possibly a more stable country. A strong economy also fosters the rise of democracy, with revolutions and uprisings due to poverty decreasing in frequency. A strong economy also creates a strong desire for stability as insecurity will hurt business.

While microlending might have an effect in a small area, the long-reaching outcomes of microlending have the potential to do far more good than simply support a country or people, but can make the world a better place, all while working to benefit your own family.

This combination makes it perfect for investors who have a desire to help others and also have a strong commitment to protecting their own future.

Hey there, LittleLee here for a review! So, anyway, this is a rather interesting topic, and you have put up a very good argument. But, I haven't been a student of any subject related to this, so maybe I don't have the right to talk.
I'm learning quite a few things myself, after reading this essay! There actually isn't much to nitpick, apart from the occasional and irrelevant grammatical mistake or punctuation mistake. Even so, you really are a good speaker, and you present your ideas carefully and clearly, giving the reader a good idea of what this is about. Well done!

Thanks for sharing. There are many valid and positive points that are presented and which sound very convincing. However, to be persuasive we must always present not only the pros but also the cons. If statistical data and expert opinion isn't included to back up our claims, then their persuasive power will be weakened. So the composition needs to present the opposite viewpoints one by one and refute them. These contrary opinions can be easily accessed via a google search.

This will reduce that unsavory likelihood of having a class member who is aware of the counterarguments suddenly popping up and introducing them. That would be devastating. Especially if we are totally unfamiliar with them ourselves and have no effective rebuttal. Better safe than sorry as the saying goes.
