Weeeelll, I think I'll be a helpful person here as well. But instead of just being random, I suppose I'll just teach you some random things about the site.

After you do five reviews (That's what these are), you'll have access to a chatbar. You can talk to other people and life is generally good.

CODES! You'll begin to memorize these naturally, most likely. Here are a few samples and the code you can use to manipulate things.

Code
[quote]Quotes![/quote]

Quotes!

Code
[b]Bold![/b]

Bold!

Code
[i]Italics![/i]

Italics!

Code
[marquee]Mooooving woooords...[/marquee]

Code
[s]Strikethrough![/s]

Strikethrough!

And MANY, MANY MORE!

Also, there are TONS of smileys. My favorite are the Star Wars themed ones.

For example:

Code

Code

And my personal favorite,
Code

There are also the normal ones. Like,

So basically, this site is the best thing that could happen to you. There are events, there are review days, I don't even know if you'll see this, but the thing is; everyone cares about everyone here. People don't hate each other, rivalries just don't happen because everyone cares about everyone. Well. Except in the Debate forum. Speaking of Forums:

There are a whole bunch of forums. There's the Resources forum (Which is the place you go to get tips and a lot of info about writing), there's the Randomnesosity (Craziness, and I don't even know if I spelled that right), Serious Discussion and Debate (Where ideas are shared and debated. Sometimes things get heated.), Art and Photography (where you can share your visual art), the Welcome Mat (Where you can post a thread saying that you're new, and maybe after a month or two you should start welcoming people yourself! you can also earn points to post works here.) and STORYBOOKS! Storybooks are incredible things. It's basically active roleplaying (usually multi-paragraph), and you can create tons of new friends there.

Also, I forgot to go into reviews. Unless I didn't. I don't think I discussed points though. So. After you write an (at least!) 250 character (About 4 nicely structured sentences, I'd use five to be safe) review talking about the work, what the author can improve, what they did great on. After you write your minimum and submit the review, you can get points! The average number of points for a minimum review is around... 20-30? BUT. Your maximum is 100 (for non-green room works). To get 100 points, you have to write 1000 characters. If you review a work in the green room, then you will receive an automatic 25% bonus on the amount of points you earn. So if you write a 1000 character review, you will get 125 points instead of 100. REVIEWS. THEY'RE... Pretty easy to type out a short one. A long one like this though... I think I've been typing for 30 minutes. Whoops.

So, concluding this loooooong welcome, Welcome to the Site! You had better stay, after all that typing (Just kidding)! XD Feel FREE to ask me for any help at all over here. Thanks for joining, I hope we can become friends in the future! :D

If you're doing it for KotGR you can claim a prize for writing a review and me snagging it from you~

Nah, I'm not a part of that XD I don't review enough. It's all good, I was joking :)

Hey jherrmann,

It's nice to see that you're taking an interest in YWS. If you'd like some more information about how this site works, or what the features are that you can use for things like posting short stories, historical fictions, or just work in general, we have a great resources forum.

viewforum.php?f=320

I'd suggest next time you'd like to do a test, you can use the Draft button so that it doesn't show up in the Green Room or in public view. You can also try a lot more to expand your horizons in a single test.

For instance, you can check how the paragraph system works, what the HTML codes and buttons do, and how to do things like post poems with stanzas.

These are some of the harder things to get used to with the publishing center and you can find tutorials and helpful articles about how to do them in the various Knowledge Base forums. Check out the indexes to see all of the available articles for those sections.

Nooooo, you posted before me XD
