"100 men jumped out of the ship, I started slicing n' dicing-killing and blood everywhere! The drunken man exclaimed. "They never stood a chance-I was dodging bullets and butchering everyone in sight- HEY woman! Bring your hero another brew." He yelled at the waitress. The waitress looked at the man in disgust as she refilled his glass.

"A hero he says, a captain he says. Ill show him a hero" she mumbled as she disappeared into the back room.

The whole tavern circled around the drunken man as he told his tale. The patrons laughed and cheered with every word said and gesture made.

"One guy was this wide!" The drunken man yelled with his arms spread out as far as he could. "II lifted him and threw him at the other poor fools who challenged me!"

"Aye!" one man yelled.

"Captain James is a god!" another man yelled

"That's right! The drunken man yelled. "I, Captain James Young single handedly defeated a small army!"

Then a voice came from nowhere. It brought shivers down the Captain's spine."Which faction was it, oh great one!" The voice laughed. He appeared of nowhere with the waitress right behind him. She sported a mischievous grin while keeping her eyes fixed on the captain.

Instantly the once rude, loud, proud, drunken Captain began to whimper. He sipped the last of his beer and spoke as well as he possibly could,"Oh hey James! How are you tonight? I hope you are feeling good. You are good right? What brings you here?"

"I'm doing well. I live here. Is that not why your here, Bro? This nice waitress told me about a man who looked like me telling crazy stories to the patrons."

A voice from the crowd screamed, "Hey you were lying to get free beer from us!"

"Liar!" the crowd yelled.

"fraud!"

"Mooch"

"freeloader!"

"let's teach him a lesson!" one of the voices screamed as he drew his sword. The group of men that surrounded the captain in admiration had turned into an angry mob. Backed into a corner, the captain drew his flask. He took a big gulp of rum, lit a match and blew fire at the mob. Blinded by the heat and bright fire, some of the men fell, knocking each other over like dominos. The Captain jumped on the nearest table running towards his brother.

"Hey James! It's been too long! He smiled as he embraced his brother.

"Guys." The waitress whispered. She spotted small embers on a wooden floor with alcohol everywhere.

"you cant keep out of trouble can you, Brandon? James smiled.

"Guys." She shrieked as she tugged on James' cloak.

"This was your fault." Brandon shot back at James. "I was getting free beer. I lost my ship, my money, and my crew!"

"You two! Are you serious!" She screamed. Her skin was crimson and her eyes bloodshot.

"Stop being annoying lady!" James scowled. "if you want a hug wait your turn." The waitress pushed James and ran out of the tavern along with the half drunk men who were collecting themselves.

The two bothers separated and looked around the tavern. They were completely surrounded by fire. "Shoot." James groaned. "Lets get o-" The fire had reached the cases of alcohol and with a big explosion the tavern went up in complete flames.

There's definitely a certain atmosphere to this type of upbeat story that one could find enjoyable. I love the energy that your dialogue has. If anything else, your style of writing tends to make it so that there's never a dull moment in the entire chapter. Something else you do really well is hooks -- the beginning dialogue is so aloof that it makes me want to keep reading. Likewise, the cliffhanger at the end makes me want to click the next chapter to see what happened to Captain James.

I'd work to enrich your story by other means, though. It seems like a million things are happening, but they're happening at every different angle so fast that it's hard for a reader to comprehend it. Chapters should aim to tell one thread of a larger and grander story. Here you have men jumping into the tavern and attacking the pirate, then you have this waitress yelling at them, and then the tavern explodes out of nowhere. I'd also give your characters a bit more thorough description. Early on you describe Captain James as drunken, then you do it five more times. We know he's drunken -- tell us something else about him that will draw us to his character.

I found James and his brother to be un-likeable compared to the waitress. Be careful you aren't making a Spongebob-Squidward situation where the main characters end up being less sympathize than the grouchy character they're annoying. Or maybe that's exactly what you want.

Just keep practicing your writing, this has potential. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for your input. I really appreciate your review. It shows that I have a lot to work on but I'm being pointed in the right direction. I have a lot of trouble with staying on topic and I want to make it as clear as possible. I already published the second chapter so I couldn't possibly take into consideration your advice but I will in my third. Thanks again!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere in this chapter. It felt like something out of pirates of the Caribbean almost. I could easily picture him sitting in the tavern spinning a yarn while others listened in.

I also thought it was pretty funny, especially for an opening chapter. You can tell that the brothers are rivals with each other. I also like how they don't really seem to care about anyone other than themselves.

Let's start this review!
Amazing story. I love the cliffhanger and perfect pacing for a short story. The way the drunken man interacts with the people in the tavern is well done. I like how he stop in the middle of his sentence to ask the waitress for beer, this creates a more human-like character for me. Another part I truly enjoy was the waitress trying to get the James and Bradon out before they explode to death. I like how James ignored her until she pushed him down and ran off.

The only problem with your story is basic grammar errors. Rember beginning of a sentence is uppercase and when someone who is talking finishes close off with quotation marks.
And when this happen, "I am not who you think I am," exclaimed the goat. "I am! Peter Robison!"
Make sure to close off the speaking part when you put the person talking in the middle of their talking bit. As shown above.

This all and thank for writing for I can enjoy and review.

Thanks for the review! I know my grammar is a little off and I thank you for pointing it out. I will work on it for the next chapter.

Hey there, igotthesauce!

I started slicing n' dicing-killing and blood everywhere!
I really like the colloquial language you use, it makes for an informal, almost comedic story. But I can take your character seriously too, in fact, he comes across a little like a cowboy sort of person. One thing I noticed about the above sentence is that you missed a word before 'blood'. It would sound much better if you put a word such as 'spraying' there, so it becomes 'and spraying blood everywhere!'

"Liar!" the crowd yelled.
"fraud!"
"Mooch"
"freeloader!"

Great use of descriptive names. It's pretty clear what everyone thinks of your main character, and leaves me wondering, 'how is he going to get out of this situation?' One thing to improve on though is your use of capitalisation. Those words all need to start with capitals, because they are at the beginning of sentences.

That chapter ended on a massive cliff-hanger! It was a pretty good first chapter and did a great job at introducing me to the character and story. Thanks for sharing. :)

I'm glad you liked it. I have to work on those small errors. Thank you for the review!
