I used to believe in people
I used to think they were unique
I used to admire them
Reality hit me
It hit me hard
I neither expected nor thought
I never imagined them being so banal
I never knew they should never be believed in
But thank God I found out early
I now know who to trust
I now know who to believe
I now know what to expect

Hey, I hope you don't mind me reviewing your poem. Okay, here it goes...
I can pretty much relate this poem to any of us here in society. We always have that kind of expectation that would end up going downhill from the people we respect. It's like how you expected that your crush will love you back, but he or she doesn't see you that way. That is an example that reality DID hit you hard. But don't worry, I know that feel bro... ;~;
But anyways, this a very deep poem, and I actually like it. So keep up the good work!
Hey ObserverxD here ! Before i get started I want it to be clear that I don't believe everything I say is a fact. I'm just expresing my opinion on your work. It doesn't have to be absolutely correct, so take it with consideration.
I believe that this style of writting is called "The chain of thoughts". Meaning that is more of an expresion of your opinions tied together than a poem. Don't take this the wrong way I like it, I believe it has a certain depth and that it is honest. It is however true that it lacks in form and the word choice, is that a problem or not? I believe its highly subjective, and eventhough I might prefer songs with more powerfull words and metaphores, someone else doesn't. What I'm saying is that I like your work, but you might consider changing the form of your work a bit.
Cheers,
ObserverxD
Hello! NightWolf here to give you a review!
Firstly, I must say this is an awesome, nicely-wrapped poem!
You convey a simple, but powerful point that is shown very strongly. This is often difficult to do, so I can offer my deepest congratulations.
I love your use of repetition, as it helps your point and makes the image stick in your mind. Sometimes repetition can be overused, but I don't think this is the case with your poem.
This poem flows neatly, and I don't find any awkward parts.
I can't comment on punctuation, as you haven't used any. I disagree with Purple below, as it is entirely the poet's choice about punctuation. It might be useful, but I don't see any real need for it.
Your title is an excellent summary of the poem, and titles can be hard to choose, so well done!
Keep writing -
NightWolf
thank you so much it's really encouraging
i'm really happy that you could sens all i wanted to show through this poem thanks again
No problem! Be sure to message me when you post another poem! I'll be delighted to read it.
Hey there! Purple here to give you a review! Let's get started.
Hmm well the title says EXPECTATIONS, but the only time you show what those were is when you say you thought they were unique. I can tell you were hurt by someone you must have thought to be better than they really are, and I'm sorry for that. But frankly I should tell you that you are part of the general "people" on society that you now look down upon
Anyway, along the lines of poetry, I would say this belongs in more of the "Other" category since this is more anger and realization than poetic. What made you change your mind? Who is this person if specific or even group of people that let you down? What did you expect them to be? Expand on this. Also, I think you really need punctuation. You might see people using the word "flow" all the time, but that's really just another word for the beat or movement of the poem and isn't saying to remove punctuation. It's actually important to make ideas clearer. That also goes with capitalizing every line. You don't need to do that to every line, because every line isn't important and this loses the effect of showing the importance of one idea. This is especially important when transitioning from one thought to the other. For example
"Reality hit me,
and it hit me hard.
I neither expected nor thought;
I never imagined them being so banal."
I think this has some potential but hopefully my review helped. Have a nice day!
~Purple
