a strange story part 3

“Where are we going?” Dori asked easily gliding along.

“School.” Jessica’s breath was ragged. Five minutes, she wasn’t going to make it.

“What’s school?” Jessica ignored the question and cut through a back yard of some poor old man that sat up in shock as she sprinted to the other side and vaulted the low fence. There was the school, halleluiah1 and with only a minute to spare. She ran up the steps through open the door and ran straight into the principal.

“Miss Johnson, might I ask why you have left the school grounds? As you know, freshmen are not permitted to leave, unless checked out by a parent or guardian.” Jessica stood dumfounded. “I guess you where not? Well then come to my office.” Jessica meekly followed.

The door was closed and Jessica had the feeling of being in prison. The principle, Ms. Villar, went around and sat at her desk. She straightened papers and put on a pair of glasses. “Now tell me where you went.” She rested her chin on her hands and glared at Jessica.

“I… I went to the house me and my aunt bought… because I forgot my … homework.” She added the homework excuses because e she knew she would get in trouble for sleuthing.

“Right then, next time ask to call your mother or father to pick it up. Now since you did break the rules, I believe that three detentions is a reasonable punishment, and I will have to call your mother.”

“Well that might be hard because…” how could she put it, her parents had gotten so sick of her always getting into trouble that they sent her away and didn’t ever want to here from her until she had turned into something they could be proud of? No way would she under stand that so she simply said “my mother is dead.” It was partly true, she hadn’t heard from them in two years, so they might as well be dead. “And my father too.” She added this too be safe.

“Pity, then who is taking care of you?” Ms. Villar began writing again.

“My aunt, but please don’t disturbed her, she is worried enough that I am about to fall into the wrong crowd and would send me away to boarding school if she found out. Please, I’ll take five detentions and swear an oath never to skip class to go to the house again.” The principal looked up and smiled.

“Listen I know it will be hard,” her face softened and she took off her glasses. “How about we just tell her that you went with a couple of friends for pizza.”

“Oh, that would be just fine thank you!” Dori was standing at the back of the room asking what pizza was.

“The principal smiled and said “I will expect you after school for the rest of the week.” Dang it she did take me up on the five detentions she thought. She stood up and thanked her again and walked out.

“Who was that witch? What are detentions? What is pizza? What is school? Oh I have so many questions about this new world of yours!” Dori was ecstatic going off rambling nonsense that turned into a muddled mess.

“ok, I will answer all your questions after school which is after school, another hour and a half, but for now you need to be quiet, you can wander the school, but as soon as the bell rings you need to go over to the office that we were just in.” a girl walking by gave her a strange look. She came to her science class and walked in. Dori was over whelmed by every thing. She forgot to be quiet and was taking in every thing.

Exclamations of “oh my!”, “my goodness!”, and “fascinating!” happened about every five seconds. Soon she left the room and could be heard out in the hall shouting “CAN YOU HEAR ME!” about every minute or so. When the bell finally rang, Jessica was the first one out and over to the principles office.
