Another bomb. The ground around shattered spewing bits of earth here and there. A man was caught in the pit of the explosion, he had been blown at least a foot away. He screamed in pain as he gripped for his missing leg. Blood pooled around him but before he noticed to much he fainted face down in the pool. Suddenly, the vision blurred and changed into a pit of fire. Everything was a blaze, the battle field gone. It was probably the inside of a vol-

I blinked and took a quick look around me. I could feel my features turning into a sneer the picture gone. I sighed and buried my face in my arms wondering what threw me out of my vision until I realized it was a sound. The sound of a ruler coming in contact with a hard surface. “Ms. Quil, you may not care about my class but the least you can do is pretend to pay attention!” Giggles from classmates, I sat up. What's the point of classes? They're boring they distract me from the world I want to be in. Remind me of the world I have to be in. I sit up, and slouch back in my seat narrowing my eyes. So many places lost because of her. So many. Just gone lost within the lost. I take a deep breath and shut my eyes hoping any image will return before- too late. The bell rang and everyone scattered from the classroom. I grabbed my bag planing to run out of the room before she makes a coughing sound like she had been offended. “Stay put Ms. Quil.” The teacher, Mrs. Krefston, handed her a note. “Give this to your mother.” Snatching the paper away I shoved it in the pocket of my jacket then stalked out of the classroom into the crowded hall.

On my way home I detour into the woods. I had a place there, it was a shack I had sort of fixed up a bit. It was big enough for me, no one could bother me there. The shack was simple, old wood grown nearly black over time. A thick layer of moss covered the roof of it but it was solitaire and that's all that mattered to me. Pulling the door open I carefully entered the shed and closed the door tightly behind me. My back hit the door and I slid down pulling the note out to read. Oh. I folded the paper back up and put it in my pocket. Mom will want to see it. But she'll just ignore it again. Right? No she won't this time she'll send you away like she was supposed to. No no stop it go away. I huff a sigh and bury my face in my arms.

It's dark when I finally get home. Mom was already waiting for me on the couch. “Your teacher called me. Got something for me?” I dug the note out of my pocket and hand it to her. She took it and pursed her lips as she read. She ran a hand through her long light hair and sighed. She had a solemn look in her eyes now. See. What did I say? “I've set you up with an appointment to see someone okay? When you see them you have to tell them what's going through that mind of yours, this has got to stop the const-”

Her voice is drowned, an image fills my view. A field, a nice cool field. The wind is blowing, I can feel it making my hair flow back in curly strands of ashy brown that is so much like my father's. The sky has an overcast of gray, maybe it'll sno-

“Anthea!” The vision is gone. Another lost. What a shame that one was nice. “This is what I'm talking about sweetie.” She cupped my face in her hands. Wait when did she get so close. Maybe when you decided she was too boring for you. I didn't decide that! We held a look for a while then she sighed and dropped her hands. “Your appointment is tomorrow, the whole day we'll be there in the morning.” No school. I nod then calmly walk past her to my room. “Do you want anything to eat?” She asks but I'm shut away in my room before I can answer.

Cold. That's what it looks like anyway. The man looks very cold in only shorts. Frost covers his nose and he's violently shivering Maybe he wasn't just cold but afraid. He was looking around frantically too. He was in a heavily wooded area in the dead of night. There was a howl in the distance, his eyes went wide and he took off running frantically. Try as he might to run he fell and scrambled backwards until he thumped against a tree his chest heaved heavily as he gulped down air. A second set of panting nearby alerted the man and he searched around his area frantically. Then he paused, and slowly look up. There perched on a branch was a hound. A giant hound with piercing yellow eyes that glowed almost a sickly color in the darkness. Slobber hung all around its chops then it jumped, the man screamed.

I awoke screaming as well. I searched around my room then flopped back on my pillow rubbing my eyes. Just a dream darling, isn't it nice? My visions are always more fun than yours. Shut up. Shut up. Shut up. I didn't get any more sleep that night. I stared out the window of moms car as she drove. My mind tried to wander but He was extra chatty today. You know what would make this ride more fun? If you grabbed the wheel! I closed my eyes and sighed heavily. When I opened them He was sitting on the dashboard. The thing about him is well. He likes to pop up sometimes. He never stayed in the same shape always something different. Whatever he is now is hard to explain. A rabbit mixed with a...dog? Maybe but not quite. He crawled over to the wheel of the car and perched right next to mom's hands. “C'mon it's as easy as this!” Then he pulled on the wheel and we veered off the road, the car crashed into a ditch after rolling a few times, landing upside down.

I blinked and the vision was gone but He wasn't. “That easy, it would be fun.” “Go away.” I mumbled. “Hm, what was that?” Mom spoke up, I glanced over briefly when I looked back to Him, He was gone. “Nothin.” We parked, no more time for visions. The waiting room was dull and empty. Small, but cozy. Boring. I plopped down in a seat as Mom grabbed a clipboard from the receptionist. She sat next to me beaming a smile. “The fun part right? Paper work.” Her attempt at humor would probably have got a small kick out of someone else. But I forced a small smile for her then cupped the side of my face in one hand. Visions take me away. Any time now. Come on. Not visions of course but Him. He appeared.

This time he looked like a bunny, a cat, and maybe a clown with jagged sharp teeth. “Visions? How about I show you something that's been cooking all morning!” He snapped his fingers and I was no longer in the dull but cozy waiting room. Instead I was in a dark woods. The trees where practically black against a sky that was coated with thick gray clouds. The wind howled making me shiver right down to the bone. I couldn't see Him anywhere only the darkness, and the sound of the wind. Something was wrong. Very wrong. On the wind I could hear something. Barely audible but there. Tiny whispers. People? No children. What are they saying? Play with us Anthea play with us! “I can't see you.” I dared to whisper back. Play with us please play with us. “Well, where are you?” Follow the wind Anthea! Follow the wind and play with us! Pushy bunch of voices they are.

But I followed the noise, blindly at first then I started to notice the way the wind was blowing and went on from there. Where it took me was a meadow. It was empty, and just as dark as the woods. The middle of the meadow something was popping up from the ground. Curiosity won over and I walked towards the thing cautiously. It was just a flower. Anthea, play with us. “Are you even here?” Just as I spoke they were, it was a circle of children skipping around the meadow almost in sync. They smiled and giggled and yelled, Play with us! Play with us! They started closing in on me. I panicked and wanted to run but they were so close. I could barely breath. They all reached out for me. I screamed and shut my eyes.

One of the things I love about YWS is the quote generator. For example, I'm reading a really serious work, and then I see "Moo. - cow" at the bottom of the page.
