This tale is true and mine.
The rain amplified my agony. My heart was heavy as I cursed the sky,
disappointed with its response. Time slowed to a halt as I realized
the gravity of my actions. Why had I chosen this path?
Why was adventure so costly? Pain surged, I pulled in and rocked.
Part of me was dying. Something very important was fading.
Memories, moments, beauty, innocence, and life itself scattered into the grass,
disappearing forever. Looking back, my vision is clear.
How had I entered this fate so blindly?
Misery whisks through what is left of me like a breeze
through the arms of a tree. Time is not my friend.
Mere moments remain for me and my other half.
Cruel mortality separates us, the space widening from stream to canyon.
Stupidity maintains a high price. My debt is the life of my happiness.
The choice I had made was of pure emotion.
My interest was drawn to the open.
Fast feet flawed my perception. Lust clouded my foresight.
I needed to look, needed to wait, needed to see what was before me.
She warned me. She hesitated, but I moved forward.
I dueled, daring danger to strike me.
The ground was wet, the grass, treacherous to us.
I left my caution at home, my reasoning still lay in my bed.
We soon came upon our departure, before either of us realized what had unfolded.
Now I lay here in the downpour, saying goodnight, her head in my hands.
My friend taught me so much. Her unspoken words
painted the picture of a better me.
Innocence transferred her knowledge
to the hands of a flaw for safe keeping.
I hold her teachings with delicacy. I honor her actions
of love, patience, and honesty. As I pave the way for her transfer
to the world of the spirit, my heart bursts from the purity it holds.
My companion’s eyes look deep into mine one last time.
My emotions overflow for this creature of grace and dignity,
her eyes gently closing now. Her task finally fulfilled, fully.
Her lessons bestowed. My face is hot, tears mix with rain,
and I realize she spoke without words; a skill now my own.
