Not A Wonderland

Prologue:

My life wasn’t something I had expected it to be;

We all grow up thinking that life will be some happy fantasy with unicorns and rainbows; but then it hits us… hard, and then we wake up, some more than others.

Some decide to fix their lives and live meaningful ones, and some decide to lay in that pit of black nothingness and never wake up to find what they are truly here for.

But then again, I guess I know life really isn’t like that for everyone; maybe it’s just my mind tricking me. But if you think about it, no one has a perfect life, even if they think it is; there is always something wrong, some imperfection.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I’m not the kind of girl who will wake up and experience what I’m here for, at least not right now.

Some days I wish I could just sink into my mattress and spend the rest of my days on this horrid planet called earth in my dreams; they were at least, a little better than my reality.

I guess all this talk about making the most of life and living it to it’s full potential was just infuriating to me; I just couldn’t understand the obsession over people suddenly realizing that they only get one chance at life, and all of a sudden everyone starts to skydive and eat frogs, and I mean how did it take this long for everyone to realize that they do in fact die?

Are people that stupid that they thought they could live their entire lives and then wake up after death and keep going for eternity.

Well, unfortunately for them, life is not a bunch of rainbows and bloody unicorns; get real people.

She’s a bitch!

She hates everything and everybody, she likes surprises and unless you are prepared she will take you down and you will stay there, in this bottomless pit of nothingness, and until you wake up and realize that something needs to be done, you will stay in this pit forever.

I guess my mind is a little rough…

My life was turned upside down when I was still young; I was angry and upset that my crazy and ‘normal’ life was just a lie. I felt like it was all just a big line up for the climax, to one big explosion, full of anger and tears.

That’s all it’s ever been since… Well since now.

Nothings ever been a cup of tea for me, I think all I ever really needed was for someone to drag me out of this deep pit of strangled anger and confusion of ‘why me?’

I just needed an anchor, a strong and happy anchor, to pull me out of the ocean and back onto the ship so I could continue on this treacherous journey called life.

Maybe I have found that anchor; maybe I am finally finding what I was put here for.

I know nothing can ever bring me out of my subconscious thoughts, I mean they have completely and utterly drowned me and there is nothing anyone can do to save me, it’s too late for anything like that. But the one thing I know they can show me, is how to live.

Nothing will ever be the same, but for now this is what I need, and it is going to be one hell of a roller coaster.

I know what you are thinking; ‘this girl is crazy, blah, blah, blah.’

Well congratulations, you are one clever bastard.

But you know what, I may be crazy, bonkers and out of my mind… But all the best people are; if you say you’re not, you my good fellow are a liar and well…

Good luck to you.

So here it starts.

Welcome to the crazy and sometimes depressing story of my life:

It’s not warm and it’s not fuzzy, it is not welcoming and homely, and it most definitely is not a wonderland.

But maybe… just maybe, It could become one.

First of all this was amazing! It was deep, pretty, nicely done, well looked over. When you said "Bitch" it caught me of guard, I know that sometimes cuss words and simple part of writing, but when one is added in not needed. I must say, I get upset, I imagined this cuss free, but maybe to some it's not, but I wanted to say what I thought. Your style of writing is so pretty, no fancy. It's deep and but put into good words. I really can't wait to read this book. Great job! ^^

Haha, man you got me there. Okay i have to admit, i want to read your book it sounds fun and when i started reading this i was like being drowned by a sea of memories. Sigh... I don't mean to say anything since this is your life and book we're talking about, but i gotta say that it makes me smile reading this since it made me remember the past that i desperately tried to forget. This is good, nothing else to say.

This was the first piece of writing I have read on here. It's very raw and real and for me, relatable. Considering I am in no place to give you any criticism, I'll leave it at that I thought it was very good.

Hey, englishbreakfastgirl!

I'd first like to say that this was a very deep and analytical prologue. You have described 'life' in a way that didn't make me confused in any manner. Although I like this very much, I should say (no offense, at all. If you're offended, please send me a private message.) that I've seen these a lot. I know that this is a prologue, but I'm having a hard time imagining what this book is going to be about. You need something that'll make your readers predict and think. And in the moment, I think you may be lacking one. Of course, I have no doubt that you will be able to find a direction to pull this into, and I'll be looking forward into it -- but just mentioning out of precaution.

Some nitpicks I want to mention :

[My life wasn’t something I had expected it to be;

We all grow up thinking that life will be some happy fantasy with unicorns and rainbows; but then it hits us… hard, and then we wake up, some more than others.]

I don't think that the apostrophe was really necessary there. Personally, if you replaced it with a period, it would read more fluently.

[Well, unfortunately for them, life is not a bunch of rainbows and bloody unicorns; get real people.

She’s a bitch!]

This was the only confusing part for me, really. First, the 'bloody' part. I'm assuming that it's supposed to be British? Like saying 'bloody hell'? If so, you want to keep it consistent throughout your entire prologue.

And the 'She's a bitch!' part stopped me for a moment. And no, not because of the 'bitch' part. I stopped because the immediate assumption that jumped into my head was, 'she' is a person. Then I quickly realized that 'she' means life, but in the way you wrote it, it sounds as if the narrator is cursing at a real person.

Overall, this was nicely done. I'll be watching out for more of this book! ;)

Happy writing! Mephistopheles
