I decided to try my hand at poetry, and this was the result. =/ Let me know what you think! A side note to avoid confusion, 'Papa' is a title given to a man totally unrelated to the speaker, but who is a father-figure.
Dear Papa,
You mean so much
to me, a stranger.
I know that I mean
at least something to you.
But why, Papa?
Why do your large hands
Gently cover mine,
A smile on your face,
While my father’s hands
bring only pain?
It’s been almost a year
Since we happened to meet;
We hardly know each other,
And yet you say you love me.
I know that you mean it.
But why, Papa?
How is it that you and
My parent bear the same
Title, yet your understandings
Of it are worlds apart?
What do you see in me
That he doesn’t?
You call me your girl,
and I know you cherish me.
It is evident in all you do.
I do have one question…
Why, Papa?

Hello, here to review!

First of this is very well written especially for your first poem. When I read it I kinda wanted to start crying, cause you can see the conflicting pain between both a biological abusive father and a actually loving father figure. The truth being told the girls heart seems to be in it's own confusing state. We're she is trying to find we're she stands, or even if there is a solid place to stand. In which she is then hoping that by asking each father these questions, the answers they give will eventually and hopefully lead her to a answer that can put her on the solid ground she needs to stand on.
Keep writing and I look forward to more of your work.
This was a very well-written poem. On its own, it already does it job very well. Without being directly stated, it quickly establishes the emotional connection our young lass has with her "Papa" and the problems she has with her actual father. And does it in a way that makes it seem believable. In a way that makes its main character seem human.
But as a first attempt at poetry... I just have to say that it's one of the best first attempts at poetry I've read. It manages to be a heartwarming tale about a very confused girl, a very misguided father and an human stranger.
Thank you for this review!! Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Hi! Happy Review Day!
If you tried out poetry, and this is what came out of it, you should feel proud! ^_^
For some odd reason I love poems like this: poems that ask a question, either answered or explained through out the whole poem. I don't know why, but I just love them. I guess I like seeing how people think of it, or how they like to answer.
I find it sad how this girl just can't understand why some people love her, and others don't. But it's just life, it's what happens. Some people are born to hate, others to love.
I don't agree with Awsomesauseness, I think this was pretty straightforward and easy to follow. It had its plot, and it was rolled along smoothly. I think it worked out perfectly fine.
All grammar, spelling, and punctuation seemed pretty good to me.
I do hope you continue writing poetry! You're pretty good at it, have self confidence! ^_^

Thank you for the review!
She can't understand how this man, her 'Papa' can love her when her own father-- you know, someone who's kind of supposed to love her?-- can't. Abuse can do strange things to a person's mind.
Thanks again!
Okay
And your welcome!
Cool.
Um its good. I didn't understand it though. I tried to figure out what it was about when you put
Why do your large hands
Gently cover mine,
A smile on your face,
While my father’s hands
bring only pain?
would you explain please.
overall I understand that in here you are wondering why he did this.
No spelling errors I can catch or anything grammatically wrong.
I look forward to reading more.
Thank you for the review!
Basically, the girl's father is abusive, and this man, her 'Papa', is totally opposite. She can't understand how he can love her while her father can't. In that particular stanza (and I did question it while writing it), her Papa will hold her hand, or just cover it with his, and her father's hands beat her. So she's comparing the two of them.
Did that clear it up?
ok that makes more since. Thanks
