I wrote this poem for my dear class mate who died on the 6th of March 2011
This is for you Tebello
An empty desk.
A new day is born.
The sun slowly becomes visible.
Mothers kiss their children good morning,
Children hold onto their mothers.
Students walk into high school.
The silent atmosphere fills the air.
The blank faces of all who just stare.
Today, is not a normal day.
People all begin to flood onto the field.
A circle is what starts to form.
A voice echoes, "Today we stand for a lost brother."
The tears begin to fall.
Tebello Koena - A man who once walked these halls.
For a long moment, no one could speak.
Shoulder to shoulder we stand.
Like an eagle, you will always soar.
Teachers mourn with their students.
Sunday: A great man was lost.
Monday: A school stood as one.
Tuesday: Balloons filled the air.
Dear Tebello: you'll never be forgotten.
Missed by everyone who ever came into contact with you.
Your smile, a never ending memory.
On this day, many were left with nothing to say.
An empty desk in every class.
A tear on every face.
An empty desk where we look.
Time will take its own pace.
Never forgotten Tebello Koena.
Always on our minds Tebello Koena.
A memory that will last,
hen all else changes.
Good bye.

This was beautiful, heartfelt and full of palpable emotions, I could feel them jumping off the page at me. I feel your pain, in the past two years my school has lost 3 students, one in an ATV accident, another got hit by a truck at night, and one committed suicide, so I can relate. We do also have 1600 kids in our high school, but even when one passes on it's hard. Good job. Always keep writing.
Very moving and deep. I thought that perhaps the repetition of mother in the first stanza didn't work so well but i'm just nitpicking really. It's a fitting tribute.
This is such a tearful poem :'( It's such a beautiful poem, yet such a heartbreaking one. I don't know how it feels to lose someone yet, and this poem gave me a feeling. I don't know if there are any mistakes, but all that I'm going to say is good job and write more!
