A letter to the Phoenix - First Evolution - Chapter 1

 - Mourning -

It is Monday morning; everything is fine as it sees.  Waking up from a dream to walking on the real world has given me little bit of a daze towards to where I come at. As I then sit, on the dresser chair glancing at the mirror, it is nowhere different from the every step that I have walked through. I shifted some of my hair sideward my face, taking a look of myself at my reflection on the mirror.

“How I’d wish everything would just be normal to me throughout these days.”

I caught a glimpse of the time; it is already half past noon. I am expected to come at school an hour ago, for a special occasion they want me to not know. Glancing for the last time on the mirror, I smiled, just hoping that everything will turn out fine – this day.

---

I walk off my dresser, still being bothered by some echo in my mind that keeps on peeping right through inside. I have been in turmoil by it ever since a week ago. I couldn’t think properly, couldn’t walk straightly and couldn’t sleep without a lullaby I play on my music box – it is the only remaining remembrance I could reminisce with during the hours of missing my father who died accidentally in a car accident right after my 15th birthday. I’m already 18, just turned a few weeks ago, and nothing has still changed from my usual daily life. Except that, I met a really reliable friend who I think really cares for me. His name is Doyle, brown hazel eyes, 6 ft tall, and has a really charming smile; I think I just like him.

“Ellie, I’m here! Where are you?”

That must be him.

---

He’s knocking on the door of my house, so I went downstairs to fetch it up. As I open the door, light streaked through his face – a charming prince had came at my sight; who is Doyle.

“Ellie, I was waiting for you at school, aren’t you coming to school today?”

“Oh yes, I’m sorry I woke up late, although I still need to take a bath from a really tiring night – (which is the pursuance of the echo amidst my head).”

“Tiring night? Why? Have you been working or is there something bothering you?”

And yes. I forgot to tell you all that despite of him being my closest friend, I still resist to tell him what is really wrong, having to know that he, might be mislead by me as well.

“Ellie?”

“Sorry, it was nothing. I got it all figured out. Could you wait for me here? I’ll just go take a shower, I’ll be back in a minute.”

“Oh okay.”

I climbed up the stairs then went into my bathroom, inside my bedroom, unfortunately, the echo I fear about has started to rock my mind once again.

Fire.

Piles of rock.

A sea.

And a charter to an island, are the only clear words, I’m hearing throughout the echo. Suddenly it all stopped. I wore off my clothes, open the door to the shower and wash myself. I then felt the augury of something bad will happen; more like a prediction of some kind.

I reach for the towel, hanging on the shower handler and wrap it around myself. I browse my closet for a nice outfit to wear still being bothered by the bad feeling that I had on the shower. As I think about it, I came up wearing a turtle-neck sweater, with my hair pushed behind, and a pair of skinny jeans, that I had been keeping for a while now since my 15th birthday, which was long ago then.

I didn’t earn height, nor did my face change anything at all.

I feel a deep compress as I top myself with a gray jacket, which my mom usually borrows for certain causes of her. As I tuck my hands on the pockets of my jacket, I feel a round edgy thing inside one of them. I took it out, and it seems really odd for a normal coin.

---

 - Paranoia -

“It’s a bit rusty,” I said to myself.

Aside from that, the coin has really odd markings on it. I didn’t mind it at all so I just put it back inside my pocket, and then went downstairs to check on Doyle.

“Doyle!”

“Ellie! We’re really late!”

“I know! Let’s go!”

I ran downstairs, then he grabbed my hand – I blushed a bit – as we walk out the house.

I then had a smile, as having an immediate rush of feelings for him then on a quick flash, my mind started to thrill. I feel my head started to grow heavy with unusual reactions and so I took his hold of me. Then on a light second, as I blink, the color of the surroundings has turned fiery red.

“Get off me! get off me! get off me!,”

I shook my head trying to rid of the outburst I am continuously having after every split second, wanting to rip me off.

“Ellie! What’s wrong with your eyes?”

Then at a quick sound, the rock I had took a sight at, combusted.

“No, don’t come any closer,”

I ran back to the house, afraid of what might turn out if I stay out for too long. I locked the door out of paranoia that I might do something bad outside.

This hasn’t happened to me before.

“Ellie! Open this door!”

“Not now Doyle! I…I need to be alone…”

“Ellie, listen to me. If you won’t let me help you on this, then you don’t trust me at all,”

I start to cry on the moment he said that. I feel a bit lost and out of hand from all these problems I am having. My head is still spinning and everything I see are still colored red. But then after a quick shock, I fell apart.

---

 - Instance -

I woke up, everything seems different. There I see my bedroom, with me lying on the bed. I rose from the bed and stood up to go downstairs, to see if Doyle is still there and as I open my door, there is a flash of fire wanting to come at me, but on a quick second, I woke up again, lying on the floor, hearing Doyle shouting from the outside, calling my name.

That was strange.

I stood up, and opened the door, and then at a quick second, Doyle hugged me and asks me what happened.

“Ellie, what’s wrong? please tell me, I beg of you.”

“Do…yle…I can’t…tell you what is really happening.”

“Ellie, it’s either you tell me, or I leave from your side.”

I couldn’t think of anything to say. I had been left speechless as he said those words.

“Doyle…,”

“Ellie…,”

“I don’t have anything to say…”

“Well if you won’t tell me what’s wrong, then you no longer need me at you aid,”

“I…really…can’t…,”

“Then, it’s goodbye, Ellie.”

“I guess. Goodbye, Doyle.”

There are no words to describe what just happened between me and him. It’s just sad to think that I lost my bestfriend at this hour of need, when I need him most, but is troubled of not being able to tell him what was really wrong.

We set apart, pretending we didn’t have any feelings for each other anymore. I know I still do for him, but am not perfectly certain if he does love me back.

“Well, I guess it’s just how it’s going to be from now on,”

Plainly hopeless and miserable.

---

 - Momentum -

I no longer have him.

It is time I unravel the mystery behind this pressure I’ve been having. I also missed school today, and the something called “special occasion” they had prepared for me. I messed up a lot today.

I went to the kitchen to look for some food on the fridge, hoping that at least I would be a little bit satisfied from eating on this day; which was the most ridiculous thought I had ever think of. Images then started to rattle my head out of consciousness and had me blackout for two minutes.

I feel like I’m inside a dream, although the images are too vivid for my eyes to see; as if I could already touch them.

I started seeing a forest, close and wild, looks like never been ventured, and have a very dazzling breeze shaking the trees that it passes. I walked towards the forest, still convening with my thoughts that this is only a dream, or by the looks of it, it is – or could be.

Then at one moment, someone took a grab of me, but as I turn beside me, there are only traces of ember left from that person – if it was human.

“Come closer, my dear Elizabeth,” a voice I hear deep on the woods inviting me in.

I then started to feel strange towards the surrounding; as if I’m being stalked or followed by something unknown to my senses.

“Come closer, my dear Elizabeth,”

I do not want to go although I couldn’t resist getting closer inside the woods. Then at one light second, a very abrupt call whispering through my ears, came at me, and said these words,

“Light, listen, last. This is how earth lingers, and this is where you land. This is what you will surpass,”

I am mystified with those words, which fill a really deep meaning that I am still to uncover.

---

“Come, Elizabeth,” the voice deep beneath the forest continue to call for my presence, although I have been enlightened and had been startled to consciousness by the odd whisper.

But due to my cuiosity, I come to think on finding, what is really up on those woods. But with a shock of something that bit me, right when I was about to walk, I fall out, and woke up back to the real world again.

---

Light, listen, last.

Whatever could it mean; it is really disturbing to my ear. I then started to think and try figure what those three words really define.

Light, listen, and last.

“Hey liz, why were you absent today? This is Chelsea. Text me! Okay bye!”

It’s Chelsea, she called me earlier, which I suppose, after school, and then I come to think, I am away for a long time, which is during that instance I had just recently.

I opened the windows, and the curtains covering the glass, and is amazed at how it is already night. I also checked on the time, and am really shocked at what I saw – 7 hours long I have been gone.

 ---

- Dream -

I didn’t put more attention about it and just slept it all out, hoping that tomorrow would likely be different, which I assume won’t, but has hopes that it would – likely.

During that night, I have dreamt of another mysterious dream again; I am closed off on a circle with four light forms that appear as a barrier from me against the dream.

On the dream, I am seeing a chamber that has four huge open windows, which the outside wind breaks through in and out. There is bit of light, but just good for someone to sleep tight. There is a candelabrum on the ceiling which hasn’t been lit throughout that night.

I appear in front of a very large bed, covered in silk and look like never been slept on yet. There is no one in the dream, only me and the things I see.

“Morgana, have you found your shoal for the night yet?”

I guess I’ve spoke too soon. I see a woman clothed in black robes, coming out from the eastern door of the chamber – probably the entrance of the ward.

“Not yet mother, but I will be sure to find it tonight. I wouldn’t sleep without it, remember?”

“Well then, I hope you do, and I really do. Goodnight then, we will talk tomorrow at morning,”

“Alright mother. Goodnight.”

The other voice comes from the outside of the room, who could probably be her mother.

“Let’s see, where have I put that shoal now…Hmm, probably inside the wardrobe.”

And after that breathe out from her lips at her last word said, I have been sent back to the real world once more – still unfamiliar of what I saw.

Everything grows weirder and weirder each hour that passes. It could probably be related to the strange echo rambling in my head.

Hi there Cylenne!

Deanie here as promised.

Okay, let me start with the little nitpicks I noticed. It hit me in the first line already: you used 'sees' instead of 'seems.' Little spelling mistake :P The next thing I noticed was the change of tense. One minute everything is fine as it seems, which is present tense. And then you switch over the past when you say "I caught a glimpse of time". You need to choose which tense you want and then edit the rest of the piece to match that.

You have a good story here and an interesting way of writing. Although I enjoyed the plot enough, it was difficult to read because of the language use here. Your word order in several places is a little strange. It makes it rusty and harder to read. Let's sort this out by me giving you an example. You wrote:

"I am expected to come at school an hour ago, for a special occasion they want me to not know. Glancing for the last time on the mirror, I smiled, just hoping that everything will turn out fine ??? this day."

My version: I was expected to come to school an hour ago, for a special occasion which they wouldn't tell me about. I glanced at the mirror for one last time, and smiled, hoping that everything would turn out fine - at least for today.

Do notice the little differences and tweaks I've made here? It's the same idea that you've got for this story - but I've just made it smoother by keeping the tense as past and changing the word order a bit. If you try and copy this example for your other paragraphs, then you'll have a smashing story!

If you want to post on my wall for me to help you with the language for the rest of this chapter, and help you go through it all and edit it all, with explaining it to you at the same time, I'd be happy to do it. Just catch me on my wall or chat, okay? I hope this review was helpful ^^

Very good writing, it's just very, well small. If all this was one chapter that would be great but it isn't. It is just on idea per chapter and needs to be expanded and evolved into a longer piece. You have some amazing skills with writing but not the skills to evaluate each situation and expand on each idea. This would be an amazing starter book so you can remember ideas and elaborate later on but, as it stands now, it isn't a fully finished writing. I would love to see a longer, more filled out piece to see how you do with that. Good luck and have fun bro. P.S. i think the writing is good. I wasn't trying to completely make you rethink you process. Just to point out it needs to be longer.

Hey, I'm here to comment on your work so far:
Your writing is a little, for lack of a better word, ethereal. Events flow from one to the other, quickly and fluidly. I am suggesting that you could perhaps add some phrases to "bridge" each scene to the next.
