Sidewalk Art

By Clarice Pinkard

I smile coyly and lean over the small dining table watching Tim gape at my exposed breasts. Men are so easily manipulated. This one, “Tim”, is no different from the others. His chestnut colored hair is gelled back and I can faintly see the outline of a wedding ring in his suit pocket. He is babbling about work, or the weather, or something inconsequential and tedious. I don’t know what he is saying and I can’t imagine he could either as his eyes wander from my red stained mouth, to my chest, to his slab of rare prime rib.

“But, anyway, Jules, tell me more about yourself”, Tim inquires, forcing me to break out of my endless series of plastered smiles and head nods.

“I’m afraid I’m a simple woman, Tim,” I answer, “I’m a 24 year old kindergarten teacher, it’s not the type of lifestyle that warrants many adventures.” I smile innocently while Tim nods and throws his head back, chomping on another bite of meat. He said nothing but his eyes flashed in a way that made me certain he wanted to add some adventure to my life... tonight.

I know what men like Tim want. They want a break from their dried up, nagging, wrinkled wives. They want the feeling of being alive that being with a hot 24 year old will give them. They want youthfulness in their lives because they’re no longer youthful themselves. Tim is just one on the conveyor belt of geezers who have taken me out and bought me dinner. He wants power over me, but as his eyes mechanically roam over my body I know that I hold the power. The power is in my black dress and straight teeth. The power is in the fact that I can make this man do whatever I want him to simply because he wants my body for the night. This power is why I do the things I do...

“Dessert, babe?” Tim asks, “they have dark chocolate mousse.”

I look at the menu and systematically select the most expensive dessert listed,

“I’ll have the creme brulee” I smile brightly at the waiter without looking at Tim. I know he will buy it for me. He would buy anything for me at this point in the evening.

“Excellent choice, ma’am is there anything else I can get for you two?” He asks although he has a hard time tearing his eyes away from me to look at Tim.

“No. That’s all.” Tim answers curtly, willing the waiter to back away from me. The surge of power I feel warms me to the core. I trace the brim of my wine glass with my index finger, bite my lower lip, and lock eyes with my dinner companion, knowing full well what effect this will have on him. Aroused, he shifts in his seat uncomfortably and checks his rolex, counting down the minutes until he can take me to the closest high class hotel he can find. I can sense that one more move on my part will set him over the edge so I take my free hand and squeeze his thigh slowly but deliberately.

Tim’s aged face lights up in exactly the way I knew it would as he feigned control and choked out, “Babe, let’s skip dessert, ok? are you ready to go now?” He flashes his teeth at me in a way that reminds me of a chimpanzee and makes my stomach churn unpleasantly.

“Sure, babe” I answered sweetly, “let me me just use the ladies.” I picked up my oversized black leather purse and headed to the bathroom, receiving several lascivious glances from men as I glided by in my four inch stilettos. I get to the bathroom, reapply my red lipstick and then check my bag to make sure I have all the items I need for the evening.

I walk to the exit to find Tim droopy and watching me eagerly like a hungry basset hound. I smile at him through gritted teeth to avoid showing my annoyance, and he smiles back, happy and sure of himself. He knows he is being accompanied by the most beautiful woman in Manhattan and I know I am going to do just what I want with him.

“I am taking you to the Four Seasons babe, it’s a few blocks away, I’ll get us a taxi” Tim tells me while simultaneously hailing a cab with his right arm.

“Oh no, sweetie, I’d rather walk.... If that’s ok” I reply while clutching my purse closer to my body.

“Of course, babe, whatever you want”, Tim replies taking my hand and leading me swiftly in the direction of the Four Seasons.

We take the route that I always take with the long line of Tim’s that have come before this one. I know every dip in the sidewalk, every stop sign, every alley of this road. I’m quite fond of this road actually. It has a New York City feel to it but it never has anyone on it. This lack of pedestrian traffic allows me to be more intimate with Tim without offending anyone.

About halfway to the hotel I tug on Tim’s hand so he will stop walking and pull him around to face me. I then weave my fingers through his hair and walk him towards my favorite alley. I feel him gripping my waist tighter and running his firm hand through my dark auburn hair and down my spine.

“Oh yes, baby” I moan while pushing him farther down the ally and taking off his suit jacket. I lower him onto the concrete. I climb on top of him and kiss him deeper. Sighing, biting his lip, and rubbing his chest. I continue like this for several minutes until I have him gasping for more.

“Take me, babe.” He whispers desperately into my ear.

“Close your eyes” I reply, kissing each of his closed eyelids while unbuckling his belt. I turn to my purse and pull out my shiny new kitchen knife.

“Please, Jules” he whimpers like a dog with his eyes still close. Impatient from my pause.

“OH YESSSSSS” I scream manically and plunge the knife into his heart and then stuff his jacket in his mouth to muffle his scream. I stand up and smile down happily at my newest art project. Reveling in the beauty of the vibrant red fluid soaking his expensive white shirt and the cold cement of New York City. The cement that felt nothing as a man’s fresh blood oozed into it’s cracks. I remove the man’s wedding ring from his jacket pocket, return it to it’s place on his dead finger, and glide away in to the beautiful Manhattan night.

Wow !!
Its violent sexy and wonderful one.
A sexy men killer. I was so lost in this story that in the end my eyes became big. I mean Fuck!!
You wrote it so well. The way you described the lady with heels black dress and red lipstick was damn sexy. This is a story that will bound the readers to imagine everything from top to bottom. How looks can be deceptive? :D
It reminds me of one japanese horror movie "Audition" ;)
Nice job
Well done :*

Oooh, a serious man-eater. Very fun, I liked that it was told from her perspective so that you could hear all her annoyance, all the malice. Then again, I suppose it would be more surprising of an ending if we didn't here it from her view, so it would work well for you either way. You wrote it well, I didn't see any grammar mistakes that made me cringe. I liked it all a lot. It left me wanting to hear about why she hates men so very much, and how she gets away with killing men in a New York alley so often. Overall, I liked it a lot, keep it up!

Wow, that ending was pretty surprising. The story was well written and I liked it a lot. Was the woman wearing gloves? Because she touched his ring and the police might be able to get DNA from that and arrest her. I was also wondering why she makes "artwork" like that. Other than grammar errors, there isn't really anything that I would change.

ckp13 replied · Jan 20, 2014

She is supposed to be wearing gloves%u2026I should state that in the story. Thanks for reading :)

WHOA! XD

'I smile coyly and lean over the small dining table watching Tim gape at my exposed breasts.' That was not what I was expecting.

BUMP THIS WORK UP TO AN 18 NOW! THIS IS TOO EXPLICIT AND ALSO STRANGELY IMPLICIT AND SUGGESTIVE.

Definitely not suitable for young readers.

However, it is well written.

It was only at the end that I realised how the content was relevant to the title: 'I stand up and smile down happily at my newest art project.'

And it was a rather disgusting discovery! XP

Um... this was very sexual and brutal. An interesting combination and I haven't read much of this sort on here.
So top points for originality.
Well done. :)

ckp13 replied · Jan 20, 2014

Haha I bumped it up to 18 plus, thank you for the suggestion and for reading my story :). I'm sorry if it disturbed you.

LOL.
It didn't disturb me. XD

Welcome to YWS! Lucrezia here for a review.

Man, this was one hell of a story. I loved it, quite honestly. It's the kind of piece I can read over and over and never get sick of.

Right away it pulled me in, and it never lost my interest once. I wasn't bored in the slightest. The opposite, in fact.

I loved the dialogue, the foreshadowing of what was to come. It's obvious the MC has a bitterness toward this man, and all men in general. I was eager to find out how that bitterness would translate and what, exactly, she would do to him.

The ending, where she stabs him in the heart and then puts his wedding ring back on, was perfect. It fit the story so well.

I can't nitpick the storyline at all, it's far too awesome, so I'll just point out the technical stuff.

I smile coyly and lean over the small dining table watching Tim gape at my exposed breasts. Men are so easily manipulated. This one, “Tim”, is no different from the others.

The comma should be inside the quotation marks following "Tim." I'm actually not so sure the quotation marks should even be there; perhaps you should switch them out for italics? Also, because you say his name a few words later and it's a bit repetitive, I would take out the first "Tim." Overall I'd change it to:

'I smile coyly and lean over the small dining table, watching him gape at my exposed breasts. Men are so easily manipulated. This one, Tim, is no different.'

(I also dropped the "from the others" at the end because it really isn't necessary.)

“Dessert, babe?” Tim asks, “they have dark chocolate mousse.”

Should be:

'"Dessert, babe?" Tim asks. "They have dark chocolate mousse."'

Or:

'"So," Tim starts, "dessert, babe? They have dark chocolate mousse."'

“Babe, let’s skip dessert, ok? are you ready to go now?”

The A in "are" should be capitalized.

“Sure, babe” I answered sweetly, “let me me just use the ladies.”

You wrote "me" twice.

Quick tip—whenever you finish the first half of dialogue and go into the "I said," "he said," "she said," etc., put a comma on the last word of the dialogue before the quotation marks, and another comma at the end of the "said," "asked," whatever. Then, when you start the second half of the dialogue, you won't need to capitalize the first letter.

In this case, you forgot the comma after the "babe" and before "I answered." It should look like this:

'"Sure, babe," I answered sweetly, "let me just use the ladies."'

“Of course, babe, whatever you want”,

Comma goes inside the quotation marks, not out of it. Also, I'm not sure if "babe" needs to be italicized here.

and plunge the knife into his heart and then stuff his jacket in his mouth to muffle his scream.

This is a bit bumpy. Perhaps you might want to change it to:

'...and plunge the knife into his heart with gusto, letting go of it with one hand to stuff his jacket into his mouth. It worked to muffle his ghastly scream.'

Just a bit more dramatic and smooth. ;)

Also, you use the word "babe" a lot here. Is that repetitiveness on purpose? To make fun of Tim and men like him? It gets a bit annoying and tiresome after a while, so you might consider taking out some of those "babe"s.

Other than that, this is an awesome piece. It flowed nicely, was fun to read, and overall insanely entertaining. Keep up the good work!

Hello! You're too kind, thank you so much for your feedback. I went back and fixed all the errors you pointed out and my story flows 100 times better now. I do use the word "babe" so much to make fun of men like Tim%u2026 I agree it is annoying, but I don't know if decreasing the number of times I use it would detract from the point I was trying to convey? Anyways, thank you again.

So long as it was on purpose and not a repetitive mistake, I think it's fine to leave it in. ;)

Glad I could help!

Sorry, clicked the wrong button below, but here's my review!
It kind of feels wrong to say that I liked this, because it's pretty dark and all that, but there is very little about it that I can fault. Awesome character development, good pacing, realistic voice, grammar tended to be fine and there were no spelling errors that I spotted.

The title for this is fantastic. I love how it suits the story, but it's subtle, and the reader doesn't know the importance until the end. I sort of knew more or less where it was heading from early on in the story, but it still gripping. Jules is a fascinating character, and I kind of wished I knew a bit more about her.

I found a few minor issues:

“Dessert, babe?” Tim asks, “they have dark chocolate mousse.”

'They' should be capialised, because if it follows the question. If you didn't have 'Tim asks' in between, it would need a capital, therefore it needs a capital here.

We take the route that I always take with the long line of Tim’s that have come before this one. I know every dip in the sidewalk, every stop sign, every alley of this road. I’m quite fond of this road actually.

Couple of things here. Firstly, there doesn't need to be an apostophe in 'Tims' - plurals never ever do if they aren't possessive. Also, the word 'road' feels a bit repetitive, so maybe try to substitute it for a different word once, maybe street.

“I am taking you to the Four Seasons babe, it’s a few blocks away, I’ll get us a taxi” Tim tells me while simultaneously hailing a cab with his right arm.

I'm goung to use this as an example, but you made a lot of punctuation errors, or rather lack of punctuation completely, when it came to dialogue, so I won't go through and point them all out. Here, you should have a full stop after 'taxi'. This post explains dialogue punctuation, so I'd recommend taking a look since I am a bit dodgy at explaining it.

On the whole, this piece was well-written and gripping. Excellent job!

It is quite dark, haha. Thank you so much for your feedback though. You really saved me with the dialogue comment. I read through the story again and cringed at how many errors I made in that area. Your feedback was very helpful and much appreciated.

No worries. Glad to help! :-)
